Yeah, local toy fairs / comic cons are great places to look for ponies!

Back before covid turned the convention centre into an emergency hospital point, the toy fairs nearish me used to always have quite a lot of pony stuff. Mostly G1. Some later. Quite a few G3 actually.

Nice to see they're still attending events like this in person

I remember a friend telling me how she once picked up a Princess Amethyst MIB at a convention for £25, some years ago.

And I do mean Amethyst. The UK version with dragon.

I am still very jealous of that.

Mostly this makes me angry....   Ahhhhh so we go from toy dealers saying dismissively and rudely, "no, those are just GIRL TOYS, we don't have those pony things *obnoxious laugh*" , to "That's worth $50!  Give me money!"  >.<

Believe me, I've run into that FAR more than I care to admit! And now those dealers won't even listen to reason that a tail-less Peachy is NOT worth $20 just because she's old. Hell, even my local thrift shop has started charging outrageous prices for ponies. I only paid $12 for Dainty Dahlia beause she's worth more than that. But, still, that's not thrift shop pricing!

Edit to add: The Columbus Toy Show is March 20th and I'll be taking a TON of ponies to sell there!

It's worth all the hassle when you get a deal.

We have (had? I don't know now) a great dealer who would bring a ton of eighties stuff and a lot of ponies. They did deals on multiple purchases, I often got discounts because they knew me. I got some stickers and accessories from them as well. They knew a lot about the ponies, they were all named and fairly priced. I liked them.

I've also been able to negotiate with a lot of stallholders. But if they're not interested in that, I'm not interested in the pony really.

I did get some MOC baby sea ponies at one toy fair. I think they were originally £30 each. I'd seen them at a previous fair and he had priced them up. But he wanted rid of them so he did me a deal. I think I paid £40 for the two. That's about $55 in USD I think. At least at the time. It was Sunshower and Surfrider, pearlies, I think...on Dutch card (US art/release). Not sure what they were doing here though.

...And the 30p spanish Strawberry Fair/Sugarberry of course.

The good deals generally have outweighed the bad ones.

Have seen some very expensive Jem stuff. But also some quite cheap Jem stuff there.

Lots of MH at one time too. Often in bags with accessories for a couple of quid.

I didn't ask for prices so I can't comment on that aspect, other than the whole con was quite pricy Kinda expected that though! Just getting to hold one made me happy enough lol.
