Customs / Has Dolly Hair's New Management Improved Things?
« on: July 15, 2021, 03:16:53 PM »
I know a lot of people have written off Dolly Hair because of the issues with orders in the past, but there's a few colours where my only other option would be a shop overseas, and I know the store changed hands last year, so I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to order from the new owner and if things are any better now.

The guide sounds really helpful, I have several pony projects I want to do that involve recreating G1 ponies and need the hair to be right, and the only other store that both uses the same name and has all the colours I need is in the UK (I'm in Canada)

Here's a question though, has anyone placed an order with Dolly Hair since it changed hands? I know a lot of people have written it off and one of my friends had issues with the one order she placed, but that was shortly before, does anyone know if they're better to order from now?

There are other reasons for Hasbro to want to cast independent actors instead of ACTRA ones besides wanting to take advantage.

ACTRA's a union, so while it sets standards for things like how long an actor can work before they need to be paid over time, mandatory breaks, and minimum pay rate, it also has some really questionable practices, including the union fees regardless of if a member gets any jobs or not, or how they aren't allowed to work on non-ACTRA sets without getting special permission (or if they manage to sneak it in and are just credited under a different name, which is easier to do with voice acting, but still comes with the risk of penalties if they're caught).

It can be really unfair to the production teams as well; if you have an ACTRA set it has to be all ACTRA, I believe the exception is extras, but most of them still have to be ACTRA, while any principal characters will need a temporary pass. I'm not sure if they're still doing this, but they used to have a policy where you could get away with not using them for the first couple of features you made, but then it was mandatory. My local branch also has a program aimed at people starting out where they'll give you a discount on the rates, but in exchange own part of the finished feature, which wouldn't impact Hasbro, but is still kind of obnoxious.

So yes, it's probably less being able to over work people found on the internet and more an effort to try and show ACTRA they aren't the only option anymore and break the stranglehold they have on everyone

I can eliminate the blank Nendoroid dolls as an option, while they're larger than regular nendoroids, they're about 10cm tall or 4 Inches, the same as Molly.

I just checked on ebay and if it's this one https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FQAAAOSwKGRfTW5k/s-l1600.jpg the legs move at the hips but not the knees, the same way the Megan doll does, so that might be a good option

Not a pony per say, but I'd love to see the Flutter Pony Playset we saw the prototypes for a while back, I'm normally a bit nutural for playsets, but I really like the Flutter Ponies

She's here:

I'm hoping one of my local branches will get her in-store; I live in Canada and when I asked somebody said that they were discontinuing their pony line and weren't planning on releasing new ones, though I've noticed that I've known about Pony releases before the store staff did before, so....

Then again I was at one of them yesterday and they didn't have her, but since she's not listed as online exclusive maybe the shipment is just late here

Maybe try sketching the details with a pencil before painting them? I know with anything I find using paint and ink more stressful than pencil so maybe if you give yourself an easier to erase guideline first it would help. With eyes you have to do multiple coats, so just draw the next part you're going to work on

Wanted! / Chibis Applejack?
« on: June 09, 2018, 04:00:30 PM »
Hello everyone

Does anyone have a reasonably priced Applejack from the We Love Fine series? She's the only one I'm missing from my collection since I live in Canada and my attempts to time ordering her so she would ship with another figure didn't work out. I don't mind if she's missing her box

Pony Corral / Re: How do you display..?
« on: June 08, 2018, 10:24:55 AM »
I'm going to admit I don't really collect the accessories apart from some of the G2 ones and some of the pets (I like some of the ones from guardians of harmony too, but those I buy new), though I probably would buy the ones for playsets. Either way, I think buying just one and displaying the ponies that use it together would be best since it saves space and money you could use for ponies you don't have yet.

As for me I have shelves in my bedroom and computer room that I display my ponies in various parts of; I have quite a few collections and also store books and DVDs on those shelves so I have ponies peeking out of random places

Pony Corral / Re: stupid things sellers do (tell me)

I haven't had anything quite that bad but a few problem ones:

In terms of overpriced Ponies I once saw a listing Glow asking $10,000

Having trouble working out where a package would be shipped and the seller opening an unpaid item case during negotiations.

Sellers holding an item and then dropping the hold because I took more than a day to reply

Sellers of foreign pony books asking around 10 times what they paid for it

When I first started collecting G1 Ponies a seller had a lot that had one Pony I really wanted and a bunch of others I wasn't interested in, I contacted the seller asking if they'd be willing to sell just that pony alone and they agreed, and it was much cheaper without the other Ponies. So they closed the original auction and I sent a message letting them know that I was going to be out of town the next day because of a previous appointment and asking if they could mark the listing as being for me (something I'd seen other sellers do) and gave a list of times I would be free in the next few days so we could work out a good time. They ignored the message and posted it in the middle of the afternoon the next day, without marking it as being reserved, and somebody else bought it; when I messaged them about it they said there was nothing they could do and that I should have been watching the page at a time I already told them I wouldn't be near the computer

An unpaid item case being opened and closed on a simple my little pony painting somebody had done and listed for $20 with shipping and selling it to somebody else because I took to long to reply; my aunt had been hospitalised the day after the listing ended, had to have major surgery, and nearly died. When I explained what had happened she said she could make me another for $200 "Because making the same picture twice isn't fun"

Buying an Equestria Girls Minis doll where the box ended up seriously damaged and the seller would only do a full refund with the item being sent back and would not do only a partial refund; I didn't do anything more because my dad was in the hospital....he DID die a few weeks later

Pony Corral / Re: Can G4 Ponies Have "Fading Pink" Hair?
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:37:17 AM »
More than not using the colour anymore it should be reformulated not to fade, though it looks like they started using it less frequently after G1. I know there's one release of Fluttershy uses it (one of the rainbow power ones) and I think some of the publicly released Mintys have it (though I'm not sure since I've kept mine in a cupboard)

Pony Corral / Re: Unpopular Pony Opinions
« on: May 11, 2018, 02:52:14 PM »
I like the solid plastic hair and posibility of the Guardians of Harmony toys (especially Pinkie, the brushables always have her depressed hair style)

I don't mind having a set of core characters like in G4 and the later part of G3 since that makes it easier and cheaper to collect one of each character

I prefer Flutter and "Winger" Ponies to Sea Ponies

I really don't understand the "designer" wings people make for Flutter Ponies when there are replacements, yes some are nice, but still

Some of the Nirvana colour schemes just make me wonder "Why?"

I don't really like G3 from either the toy line or animation side; I know for some it was considered a sort of Pony Renaissance (At least the first half) where they had ponies more closely modeled after actual ponies, and a variety of poses & gimmics, and had more of what G1 fans were looking for, and happened in that point in history where there were adult fans but it wasn't really easy to find out what merchandise was coming months in advance so it was easier to go to the store and be surprised by what you found. But they're a little different from G1 ponies in terms of how much they resemble ponies and it doesn't quite do it for me....And then the animated series even more so, and I know a lot of the actors from Friendship is Magic were in it, but to me they sound more invested in that than the G3 series

Does anyone in Wisconsin or Oklahoma know if the Walmarts there have Pirate Fluttershy, Captain Celaeno & Boyle in stock? My mom's friend is going to be in Wisconsin throughout May and we're going there ourselves at the end of the month and to Oklahoma for an event after that, so I was hoping to pick those up in-stores since the Canadian walmarts didn't get most of the line (I managed to get Pinkie, Twilight, & Applejack when my Grandmother went to a gift show, and Rainbow was available here)

Pony Corral / Re: What were your pony misconceptions?
« on: May 09, 2018, 08:34:42 PM »
My CJ and Snowflake often played boy ponies in my herd, though I don't think of them as boys. So I guess that happened in my childhood collection too.

Takarazuka-Pony Edition?

And for me a big one was that G1 Ponies all had movable heads; the first G1 pony I ever owned was Baby Sweet Stuff, I had played with G1 Ponies before but never really paid attention to whether their heads turned and then the first G1 ponies I bought and displayed were a lot where the neck seals had either worn off or been taken off in the case of a partially customised one so I found it a bit odd when I saw some people posting about having trouble getting the heads off or cutting the neckrings in their childhood ones trying to give them movable heads

Pony Corral / Re: Before you knew their correct names-!
« on: May 09, 2018, 08:16:05 PM »
I don't remember anything specific to the G2 Ponies which were the first ones I had, but I remember getting a second hand baby Sweetstuff when I was about 10 and guessing her name was "Dolly" (I knew enough that their names were connected to their marks and had seen some of the pilot specials & the movie, so I never would have guessed her name)
