I have no idea what she did. Why was she talking about Drano? Also, the instructions she referenced clearly mentioned that this is a "spray bottle" formula, yet she pictured the dolls' hair being soaked in her recipe.

She didn't mention which type of fabric softener she used or how she went about it. While it's nice that she's warning people about something that didn't work for her, she never really says what exactly to avoid.

Yeah, I'm lost as to what she did and how it caused a fail?

 What could have gone that wrong?

Well, I've had trouble with fabric softener once - it was so old it had separated into a thick chunk of ...fat? it was super hard to get off of everything it had touched.

My only guess about the use of Drano is that the chemical nightmare she speaks of jammed the sink!

Pretty sure the Drano was used to clear the sink drain, not on the dolls.
I always use a couple of drops of conditioner in a fine mister spray bottle. Works even on faux fur to make it silky.

She even mentions in her "next time" section that she would use the doll hair spray again, just differently, so I don't think she had a problem with that. I think it just looks like she had a very hard time brushing the tangles out and eventually gave up and cut it off.

I haven't tried fabric softener, I just use cheapo conditioner. I bet she got a lot of doll hair clogging the drain & therefore needed the Drano.

I always just use a drop of conditioner in a spray bottle in my hair when I work on ponies, and I'd assume it's just fine for dolls too. I can't see how a fabric softener would have ruined the hair like that. If fabric softener is fine for clothing, hair is simply a type of fabric too..it shouldn't have done that.

I did read this on someone else's blog:
"I tried it out and it wasn’t a miracle product.  You couldn’t magically comb through the dolls hair.  Some hair came off in the brush, as normal when brushing a dolls hair.  But it did make it slightly easier, and the dolls hair is smoother and smells great!"

And another site:
"Do not saturate the doll's hair with the detangler! Just spritz it here and there.  Not only does it look better, feels smoother, but it smells great because of the fabric softener."

All I can say is, it seems like she didn't do enough research before trying something out. Geeze.

I think she was expecting magic. Detangling really bad mats is always going to take time, dividing up the hair and combing each section out. They have big heads and long hair so it probably would have taken at least half an hour for each doll.

And, HOLY CRUD! Don't use Drano on plastic doll hair clogs! It's ment for organic lumps, right? Won't it melt the hair into a bigger problem?

I usually just use conditioner but I know vintage Barbie collectors who use fabric softener. Some even use the spray you get that restores shine to vinyl car seats to make the hair shiny again.

I guess patience is the key for sure! It took me nearly an hour to detangle a Barbie's hair the other day.

Yeahhhhhh doll hair doesn't behave like human hair AT ALL when you condition it like that.  You have to spend hours gently working the hair mats out and if she was thinking Rapunzel would take an afternoon... hahahaha.  Uh no, try more like 2-3 days.
