White Windy
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:23:02 AM »
Is she real, or just a poor faded pony?
I remember a rather heated argument on the subject ina chat room many years ago...

I've several versions of Windy that have faded to almost white.
I also have one that is different. She shows no hit of colour in the plastic, inside or out,  and the symbol is blue with silver glitter.

Unfortunately I can't photograph her because she is in one of many boxes in amongst other boxes that are stacked floor to ceiling.

I have a white Windy that appears to be white and not faded purple. I'll post pics after I get off work so others can weigh in.

She's a  controversial one!

Personally, I don't feel she is a variant herself. There were various batches of Windy, and  some of them were significantly paler than others. I think the ones sold in the UK are mostly more pale, and I was surprised when I saw one that actually was lilac. I think the paler ones are more prone to fading and this is what causes the 'White Windys.' The paint and glitter can fade as well - this has been seen on other ponies, and when the red/pink dye fades out of the purple, it leaves blue behind. I have also seen ponies that faded all the way through, or were evenly faded.

So... there are various opinions. Some, like me, think she is faded, others feel she is a legitimate variant. I think at this stage for me to believe, we'd have to see one MOC, and without a sunfaded card.

a year or so ago MsTwilight had one that was part white:
Quote
I do have a "white Windy" that is in the process of change. Part of her is a nice white and there are parts with purple. She has a nice white leg and a couple purple ones. Her symbols are almost all blue from fading with a little purple left. I'm not sure if she's what you would call "splotchy". I'll try to get some photos of her in the sunlight tomorrow.

but the photos never got posted. That *could* mean that white Windys are like the error Bluebelles; either the dye didn't 'take' right or they have some strange form of regrind?

i own a white windy but i am not sure if she is real! shehas the blue symbols and is the right creamy colour, but she has very, very faint traces of lilac.

i feel that white windy is similar to those odd bluebells that pop up which are cream in colour or blotchy cream and blue. imho i feel that they are faded in some way and have had the colour leak out due to factory error rather than that they were made that way deliberately.

PKW has the best reference photos there. I am a White Windy fiend, ever since I read Dream Valley. I had been looking for one for ages, and finally got away with finding one on eBay.

Like PKW, mine is creamy-white inside and out, with visibly blue symbols. Her eyes and blush are not damaged at all! Where some of her glitter has come away there is a blue 'ghost' marking of the design on her side. I also have a white-coloured Windy with purple symbols, who I believe is a case of severe sunfading, and she still looks lilac compared to the first Windy.

It seems this particular conversation comes up over and over again
I have personally bought 3 ponies thought to be white windy and always there is some sort of lilac trace inside.

I have spent a lot of money trying to snag this one and after 3 ponies that were very clearly white on the outside and finding them not to be the real deal I have dropped that particular hunt.

I am under the school of thought she is not a variant but just a pony similar to our blotchy bluebells.

I recently sold a very nice light lavender windy with Blotches as a Bargain Basement pony.  The materials just did not want to adsorb the dye in the manufacturing process just like with our funky bluebells.

I agree with shelti, LadyG and Lunar, I dont believe her to be a variant but simply a pony which experiences the same kind of pigment issues as Bluebelle and sometimes Seashell. That red/blue pigment is clearly not too stable and as such will literally leak out of the plastic over time.

I have a Windy that is very very pale and has painted symbols with glitter on top, she looks just like PKWs. I think it is a pigment thing too.

I'm not going to bother with pics of my white Windy she looks just like pkw's on the right but is slightly purplish in places inside her body. And mine's symbol is nearly rubbed off :( Her hair is perfect so maybe i'll get her repainted someday.

so there are still mixed feelings about this :)

I was asking because I still have my original Windy who was bought new in the 80's. She hasn't shown the slightest inclination to fade over the years. She has always been a very pale lavender.

Great pics PKW So odd that she's not darker inside if she's not a variant... without a MIB on an undamaged card we'll never really know... I'd wonder if there was a bad batch of dye in the factory? Otherwise wouldn't she be darker inside? Fading usually happens more on the outside, no?
