It does sound suspicious. But if you get money by paypal, and send it out with a good tracking service I think you should be ok :-)
Never send an item out before the money clears. Is the address a confirmed address through PayPal/eBay? If not, you forfeit your seller protection. Also, you need to send packages with delivery confirmation (and/or tracking). Because if a package arrives at a confirmed address they can't really claim it didn't arrive. Unless it didn't, and then yes, you are responsible. As for item isn't as described, then they need to send the item back for a refund..so you'd just be out shipping... But you can also message your buyer and try to get more information.You didn't mention where the package was going to.
