Piggies don't have a very thick tail, so you might not want to use tail hair. If it is Minty (white or brown hair), maybe invest in the search for some original pony hair (white/ off white) and get her restored accordingly. Her price is well worth it.

Thanks for letting me know. I do have ff minty. I could use a bit of her tai I think. Or is that not a good idea?

Hi Luke,

Pinkkittywinks already got your covered with most of the knowledge. You find a lot of information on their own wiki page http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Japan as well as very well updated on https://www.ghostofthedoll.co.uk/mylittlepony-takara.php It's worth to check both out to get completely covered on the characters.

Adults:

Pinky - short hair /  - long hair/ - long reddish hair
Milky - short hair/ - long hair / - long reddish hair

Fuwa Fuwa
Sara Sara
Ami Ami
Kuru Kuru

Babies:

Lily and Popo

They were sold in 1985 only.
"In May 1984 Takara Tomy licenses its transforming robot toys to Hasbro, which releases them as Transformers in the United States, and
they became a major hit." (Excerpt from the Takara Tomy Brochure). In return, Takara Tomy receives the license for My little Pony from Hasbro.

My interpretation why there were only so few ponies sold in Japan:
All ponies at this time had a typical horse posture. Being on 4 legs with a brushable mane and tail.
Takara Tomy designed them in a standing - human-like posture similar to Sanrio's Hello Kitty figures (being invented in 1974). They are on two legs as well.
They had their Dress Up House = beauty salon (was released), a Pony Style House = living house (was not released) and a Dream Capsule = Wardrobe? (not released). I guess these buildings were to be released later in this century in case the ponies would sell more.

Their prices fluctuate a lot depending on supply and demand. The most common ones are Pinky and Milky with short hair. The most expensive ones are the "unusual colored" ones Fuwa Fuwa, Sara Sara, Kuru Kuru and Ami Ami, which seemed to have lower demand. The babies tend to be not common anymore as well. And Japanese people tend to throw away old toys rather than keeping them for their children or grandchildren.

Unless a lot of regular ponies being rooted with Nylon hair during this time - Takaras have a Saran-like hair, which was used for dolls at this time as well. It is kind of greasy and doesn't hold styles too well.

MIP Takaras age incredibly bad. Most of the girls featured cute hair stylings tied with rubber bands. Almost all of them disintegrated into the hair already, leaving brown stains on the hair, which is very to almost non-removable. That is why collectors tend to unbox them. I have mine unboxed as well (got 2 of them MIP).

In addition to the ponies, a badge as well as a fabric hankerchief was released featuring Pinky and Milky in SD format (or Lily and Popo). Both from 1985 as well.

There have been some advertisements/ comics on these ponies in the girls' magazine "Yayoi" (hope this name is correct). But these are very rare and are usually not able to be found online. The magazines are expensive as well (I paid 70€ on each of them).

Hello,

Thank you so much for the info! Such a treasure trove of information :)

Hello everyone,

I sold ponies out of necessity a while back. This may sound silly and overly emotional but I miss them. They were all very dear to me and I have replaced some of them but I still miss the ones I don't have back yet.

Annyone going through  the same?

I still feel a bit silly but I felt like sharing.

I sold most of my collection (except my complete UK collection and some special/sentimental ones) out of necessity a few years ago. I’ve literally cried over it. You’re not over-emotional or silly. I get it.

Thank you for your support :)

Hello everyone,

I made this poll for fun and to see what everyone thinks.

Personally I pick piggies but maybe because I don't own any takara ponies.

What do you pick? And why?

I would love to hear it.

Cheers,

Luke

Does your bank have a Debit or ATM card that is issued? You can use that as a means of direct transfer from your bank funds to the site you want to get hair from.

A lot of places don't take wire transfers/Western Union anymore. I agree with tailrustedtealeaf--maybe a Visa gift card or something will work instead of a Debit/ATM card.

That is a good idea. I hope I can get one.

Most sites I'm aware of will not accept via bank transfer without reaching out to the seller specifically to ask. You may be able to find a proxy person willing to help, but I believe there aren't many protections so the risk is fully on you.

Alternatively, I believe most sites that accept cards will also accept gift cards if you purchase them at a store, assuming you can pay with cash to get a Visa or equivalent gift card.

Thanks for your advice. I will look into it.

Hello everyone,

I have some ponies in need of new pony hair. I can't use paypal and credit cards due to personal issues but I can pay with bank transfer.

Does anyone know where I can buy hair (preferably within the eu) where I can pay with bank transfer?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Luke

Maybe you could sell it to a customiser?

Same here. I'm sorry you don't enjoy ponies anymore but I do understand. Any way I can help you?

Aw, you're so sweet. No, not unless you have all the ponies I sold and you want to give them back to me

I've been trying to fill the pony void with something else. I started collecting some other things, but the joy is limited.

Thank you. I have some ponies but I'm located in the eu :/.

Yes. I sold the majority of my collection including grail ponies and all my Argies. I kept my childhood ponies, my Raincurl and Applejack armies and some other favorites. It was something I had to do and it helped me financially but I regret it, not that I really had a choice. I haven't been able to enjoy ponies since.

I own Milky  I would say she is one of the more "common" Takaras, along with Pinky :)
