Celestial ponies definition?
« on: September 01, 2013, 08:38:23 PM »
I decided a while back to collect 'celestial' ponies, since I teach earth science and love space  :frolic:

I didn't realize at the time (brand new collector!) the overlap between celestial names, celestial symbols, and symbols that just happen to have a star or two added.  This kind of leaves me in a (happy) quandary- what do I want to count as a celestial pony?  Does a star or planet have to be the main symbol? What about those with celestial names but no star or planet in the symbol itself?

Since I know there are other collectors who fancy the celestial, I thought I would ask here- how do you define it?  What ponies do you include or exclude?  Let's hear what everyone thinks!  :what:

If you set out to collect every pony with a star anywhere in it's symbol, you're going to be getting a LOT of ponies that aren't really "celestial".  Hasbro LOVES to use stars.

There are a few ponies that are obvious choices (all the Glow n' Shows, Moonstone, Night Glider, G2 Princess Crystal, etc.)  A star or comet as the main symbol would be good, too (Glory, Princess Sparkle, Tales Starlight, Twinkler).  I'd suggest Starshine and Glittery Sweetheart Sisters Twinkler and Sunblossom as well.

I would *not* choose ponies that have celestial names that do not match their look (Bright Night sounds celestial but glittery hairbows have nothing to do with space.)  Nor would I choose ponies that have stars but not as the primary focus (no examples immediately come to mind, but there's a lot out there).

Oh wow, thanks Dewprincess!!  :whoa: That's awesome- I hadn't gotten around to putting a list together

Yeah, I had noticed that a lot of ponies had a star here or there but weren't necessary really celestial- I don't think I want to go that far (at least for now!).

I collect any with stars and space themes. So sparkle ponies, etc.

For celestial will you be including ponies which feature the sun of course? Or are you more about the nights sky? Because there are a few more you could add to the list such as Sunburst, Whirly, Good Weather, Baby Sunset and Sunlight to start off with.

I definitely include the sun.  So far I am just collecting G1 but that might change.  I'm also tempted by weather ponies, but that includes so many!

Yes, weather ponies will expand that list immensely!

I remembered a rather pricey pony that I left out....Nightlight!
