I deleted Facebook!

It was tough call, but it was time. I was heavily addicted to it, and would check it religiously all day! I mean, every 10 minutes or so. Most of my "friends" were not real friends, it was tough to weed out the ones who posted offensive stuff, and I was just tired of feeling like I should respond to everyones' pleas for whatever.

And honestly, I'm not really a fan of babies, and most of my feed was full of them. I guess I'm just at that age where people enjoy posting pictures of their children drooling/ with food everywhere etc.

I'll miss entering the contests and keeping up to date with my favorite brands, but this will force me to get off my butt and get myself in shape (and do other things around the house).

Anyone else do this and feel good about it?

Haha I almost never check my facebook. I don't like deleting old accounts on sites if I don't have to, because then I have to go and make sure I have all the pictures saved that I had there and make sure I get all the contact info for anyone I may miss someday, etc etc.

How do you delete a profile on facebook? I've tried to remove mine, but so far it just gets 'deactivated'. It's supposed to be completely removed after two weeks of not logging on following the deactivation, but that turned out to be nonsense...

I didn't delete mine, but I recently scaled my time I spent on there way, way back.  I feel so much better now.  I felt like I knew too much about everyone, haha.

I have an aversion to talking on the phone, so facebook is a good tool for me to keep in touch with all my friends.  I don't over share, and I check it a few times a day for updates   I only have family and good friends on it, so it weeds out a lot of the drama/excess.

I can count on one hand the number of people I really care about keeping up with on facebook. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have one.. or I'd still have one but probably rarely ever use it.

I don't really have a normal Facebook account. I only use it to like a few (okay many) brands (and a few musicians) that I follow. It has been good to be able to know when Taco Bell has a certain limited time item or when MGA puts out a new Lalaloopsy. The good thing about liking brands instead of people is they don't expect me to chat back. As a matter of fact I am sure they dread my comments as they are usually complaints of what they did wrong. I am sure the white Celestia has more to do with Facebook complaints since I think they tend to ignore emails.

I was obsessed a little with it before I lost my job, and now I mostly avoid it to avoid hearing my past coworkers updates since it depresses me. :\

Good call. I'm deleting my facebook account in a few days.

Main reason being all my FB friends are people from university, and we've all gone our separate ways.

I don't really post anything except random thoughts or facebook anyway - Facebook content demands a life I don't have have, or holidays I can't afford.

I think facebook is at best a neat distraction.

I'm hoping to get to work creating some really cool stuff when I move out my parents (been here 7 months post-university, wages for a tiny apartment should be coming down the tubes in the next month or so). Then I'll be onto building a portfolio/personal website of choice photos, articles, and documentation, and I think that's a better presentation of oneself than a facebook profile.

I'm self employed in a creative industry, and Facebook is the easiest, and often times the preferred way for my clients to communicate. It's way too useful of a tool for me to give up.

Did you know that Facebook opened up their API so you can use Facebook chat on any IM client that supports XMPP? It's pretty easy to do, create a new account in your IM client, select XMPP as the protocol, punch in your facebook URL (mine is, for example, edward.mowinckel), select chat.facebook.com as the domain, and punch in your password. So long as you're signed into facebook chat on the site, you'll be online with your IM client. It's pretty handy.
