yeah i really dislike the pressure that people exert to tell people not to shop places like Amazon and Walmart. honestly so many corporations are also horrible. plus Amazon makes a ton of money off their AWS platforms. including huge government contracts.  No one is changing their ways off us not spending money there. especially since it's what's convenient and accessible if you can't drive. Same with Walmart. Target's corporate practices aren't great either. even the ones that people think are liberal and good for society stink. IE Trader Joes and their union busting. even for local businesses. just because their small and local doesn't mean they share your values.

the problems in the US are systemic and aren't going to be solved by small scale boycotts against companies like Amazon that get government contracts. not everyone has a ton of easy options so all of that guilt is no good. it reminds me of all the guilt around recycling. i definitely am worried about climate change and pollution but recycling, especially plastics recycling is kind of a scam. it makes us feel ok about plastics so we let companies avoid additional regulations that force them to change their polluting ways.

yeah i don't like the shaming of individuals that goes on in our society. it's gross to shame people for buying what they can afford. i would rather be angry at the billionaires who are actively destroying this country. if people feel better about not supporting them that's fine but don't comment on what other people are doing. individual solutions aren't going to solve systemic problems.

does anyone else get sad about the number of scams and grifts that are always happening? between the junk calls, criminal fraud, and the "legit" companies pushing junk it makes me sad. now with so many regulations being gutted in the US i think it will get much worse. i also really hate how the responsibility to not get scammed is always falling on the person being scammed and not on the scammers. especially with the technically legal scams.

Anyone pick up Donkey Kong Country for Switch?  I had one DK Country games (one was even on GameBoy) but I can't remember if the one that just came out for Switch is the same one that I had or not.  I know I had Tropical Freeze for Wii U and only played it a couple of times.

Ponyfan

I've been thinking about picking it up. i somehow missed Donkey Kong as a kid so i never played it on SNES.  I did have Donkey Kong 64 and i liked it. but i've heard the SNES ones were much better.  I have Tropical Freeze for the Switch but i haven't played it yet.

i'm in my early 40s so they're all pretty much 90s/00s sitcoms.  Frasier, Friends, Seinfeld, Community, Parks and Rec., 30 Rock are all good standbys for me. I've gone through phases with them.

Beverly Hills 90210 and Nick at Nite were my comfort shows when i was younger. before streaming and TV shows on DVDs. for those who are too young or outside the U.S. Nick at Nite was on Nickelodeon after 8 or 9pm and they played old sitcoms from the 50s, 60s and 70s mostly. so a lot of I Love Lucy, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Mary Tyler Moore. i haven't watched those shows in forever but they're pretty comforting. silly plots and low stakes. nothing too bad ever happens and if it does it probably doesn't matter for the next episode :D

i couldn't move my plants inside before the snow because they're too heavy. some pieces are looking pretty rough. i'm not sure if i should trim off the brown leaves or wait until the end of winter.

we got maybe an inch of snow overnight. not too much but enough to cover the yard and freak out my dog. our youngest one has never seen snow before. she wasn't sure what to make of it.

normally i enjoy snow but after the power issues we had a few years ago i get really anxious. also given that was happening in the country yesterday the snow felt more sad than anything.

stay safe and warm everyone! :cold:
