Title: Aussies & Kiwi's - would anyone be interested in an easter swap?
Post by: fingerpaints on January 18, 2012, 03:31:33 AM
I have hosted a swap before, and know how much fun they can be, however, I know postage to the other side of the globe is getting ridiculous, in saying that, I am happy if requested to try to put people with partners from the same country if requested, but also undestand some of you may wish to actually swap with someone from the opposite country in hopes of recieving something from another country.

Why am I asking about this now? Well, I know alot of us are financially struggling a bit with the way the economy is everywhere, if we dragged a sswap out it would be easier to get a lovely box together for your partner.

This swap would not be a sure thing, I would have to run it past mods and see if enough people would be interested first (if I can get 8+ people, I would be willing to host).

Would you like to be involved in an Aussie / Kiwi easter swap? Or even just a swap really, for the fun of it, with a long end date so you have plenty of time on hand to get goodies together?

Anyone willing to join if I do get this off the ground, could you please answer the following questions for me -

What would be a good limit on the box for you? Should I have a set limit, or have a couple of levels to choose from?

Would you like to be involved in an easter swap or just a general swap with a possible theme?

Would you prefer to send / recieve a box from overseas or within the same country?

Is a little under 3 months enough time for you to get a really nice box together for your partner?

ANSWER:  If I was sending to someone in Australia I would be happy to spend around $40 on the box, as postage would only be around $10

Would you like to be involved in an easter swap or just a general swap with a possible theme?
ANSWER:  Yep, I love Easter!!! but I would be still interested in joining if you decide on another theme

Would you prefer to send / receive a box from overseas or within the same country?
ANSWER:  I would like to stick within Australia for my next swap to see how it goes.....
(my last swap partner was in Canada and it took 10 weeks for my box to arrive, and cost me $46 to post a box to my partner in USA)

Is a little under 3 months enough time for you to get a really nice box together for your partner?
ANSWER:  Yeah, that's heaps of time!

Yay!

Just a question for the two of you without any feedback - do you have feedback offsite like ebay, trademe or something similar?

I am willing to let in newbies too, but there would be different rules, as allowing someone into a swap with 0 feedback is a risk, I do know from most of the newbie swaps though, they tend to pull together a better box than some of the older members, so I couldn't exclude all together either :)

I will leave this poll run for a few days, keep a discussion going here with anyone that wishes to input, and then possibly have a chat to mods and start hashing something out that will suit everyone.

I would love to!  If you'll take first-timers with low feedback, that is.  I think an AU/NZ swap would be super for my first one!  I have two feedbacks on here, but I have 227 on Trade Me, 100% positive.

I would be happy to send to Australia, and I'm happy with around $30-$50.  Also, I like the idea of an Easter theme.

Normally I'd be all over this like a rash!  I love swaps.  But I am moving at least 3 times this year.  First one within the next month. Then I move to Beijing in May.  Then to some oth country in September.   So no swaps for me this year.

Aww bugger :( that is a real shame you can't join any swaps this year hun, but totally understandable. Good luck with all the moving, I don't envy you

And foalpatrol - that would be fine, I would obviously look at everyone individually and work things out, but you would be more than welcome to join if everything is above board ^^

I would be interested in an Easter swap, but I am not in Australia... by the way, what is a "Kiwi"? (And I know we aren't talking about the fruits, lol)

Kiwi = someone from New Zealand ;)

Unfortunately I would only be opening it up to residents of Oz or NZ, just due to shipping, as most of us struggle with "normal" swaps due to the overseas shipping costs. It's not really discriminating against everyone else, its just trying to make the most out of the stupid economic climate we are in at the moment. And also if I opened it to everyone it would probably become too much for me to handle, I can cope with a smaller swap but am not comfortable hosting a large one at this point :)

I should have two feedbacks soon. They haven't gone through yet though. I do have some feed back on trademe too though if you'd like that ^^

No worries for the moment, just if I was to let people in, I would either need feedback, or a different set of rules for newbies. I welcome any newbies in though, as they generally are pretty awesome at this sort of thing. I am happy to work something out for just about anyone, as long as you aren't on a bad trader list or have a heap of negatives or soemthing, I know negatives happen at times too due to no fault of our own, so it's not necessarily going to get you barred ;)

I am getting excited a bit now, I love swaps ^^

Hi, I'm tempted - whats involved tho?

It would really depend on what the majority wanted as such, but probably a box with say $30 - $40 worth of ponies and goodies in an easter theme, plus shipping on top of that.

You would have plenty of time to shop for your partner, I would get details of wishlists as well as favourite things so we could all tailor our boxes to suit our partner. Depending on the ammount of people, as well as how many new participants, I may pair people up so who you send to is who you recieve your parcel from, over a blind you send to person A, but recieve from person B, person B sends to C, but recieves from A ect.

You would be required to find one or more ponies from your partners wishlist, and depending on if the partner would like to recieve customs or not, these may also be included in the swap if you feel you have the time to make one, this however would not be a requirement, just I know some people enjoy making customs for other people.

If you have any moroe questions Endocat feel free to ask here or flick me a pm ;)

Just wanted to add this in case the feedbacks & older threads aren't updated before this swap starts -  that I have been involved in a swap with Silverskimmer before, we were not partners, but I do recall the awesome box he put together including a cute custom!

Oh yes of course, I didn't even realize that not all trade info was swapped over to the new site, I am more than happy to go check out the old arena too for feedback :)

I do prefer some form of feedback to show you are trustworthy, preferably from sales or trades, but again I will consider someone with low / no feedback, there would be some very firm rules in place though to make sure nobody gets burnt, as I really can't afford to be making up for lost boxes, as much as I would love to.

Oh, silly me, I didn't realise it was possible to look back at the old Arena, I figured we just had to wait until everything was uploaded here if we wanted to look at any older threads....

I would be interested, but I have no feedback :/

What would be a good limit on the box for you? Should I have a set limit, or have a couple of levels to choose from?
I think levels would be good like $10, $20, $40 etc. Just because I'm a poor student, lol :P

Would you like to be involved in an easter swap or just a general swap with a possible theme?
Either would be fun :D

Would you prefer to send / recieve a box from overseas or within the same country?
I would prefer within the same country.

Is a little under 3 months enough time for you to get a really nice box together for your partner?
Yeah, it should be :)

Don't worry, I am a poor student too, hence the reason I am getting input from everyone before even attempting this swap. But I do love a swap, with a long deadline for shipping, I am sure most of us, even the broke ones, could pull something pretty amazing together ;)

Yes, please Paints. I'd be in it. Easter swap all the way though as I love sending and receiving Easter eggs.

I can send to NZ if necessary, though it does ramp up the postage.

3 months is more than sufficient for me.

Ooh great, I think this could work with the ammount of interest shown.

I will start hashing out some rules & the such, and have a talk to one of the mods about it soon, will PM anybody with a link to the thread that has posted an interest in here when / if I get it off the ground :)

Anybody else with questions about this, please post in here or PM me personally!

LOL if we get each other as partners we can drop the box to each other's door step for $0 postage LOL!

I would love to join in! I have no Arena feedback, but i have TradeMe feedback, and have traded with the member Wollyton here.

I would prefer to send to NZ only, but don't really mind. And also would love an easter theme. I LOVE BUNNEHS!

Would you prefer to send / recieve a box from overseas or within the same country? Aust would be preferred, seeing as the shipping to overseas is nuts.

SpunkyJen - I am good friends with Wolly, if you would like to use her as a reference, I would be happy to ahve a chat to her for you :)

kerry483 - sounds good, it does look like most people would like a $40 box, with the roughly 3 month time frame, I am sure most people would be able to at least put in $40 worth.

If it is too much for some people, I am willing to try to pair up two people that want a lower limit together as well. I am more than happy to try to accomodate everyone and have as many Aussies & Kiwi's on board as I can, as swaps are supposed to be fun & stress free :)

I'm happy to join, the real thing that has stopped me from doing any swaps is shipping overseas is just far too expensive now.
$20 would be already pushing it a lot for me, so that's the max I'm willing to go. $40 would just be way too much even with the extended time
Not fussed about theme... but keep it inside AU/NZ really  ^.^

cobalte - More than happy to let you in with a lower limit, only reason I am looking at a $40 swap is because it seems to be what most are wanting, I am positive a few of us however would want to go a lower price. Only reason I want to keep it in AU/NZ is so we can keep price of postage down ;)

Would the $40 be the limit for everything or how much you need to spend on just the ponies?

I would say $40 on everything including ponies, or its just going to get too insane, but as I said, willing to lower the price for anyone that can't afford $40 and pair them with someone similar :) would just need enough people to do do ;)
