I've never done that, but I would like to make those someday ! I would use some clay, like apoxie sculpt; polymer clay or even natural modeling clay, maybe with a base structure of paper mâché to make it lighter and save some material and maybe use a 3D pen if I were talented enough with it. Maybe I would make a combination of all of those media.  :P

While I was writing, I was thinking that it would even be possible to make china/porcelain saddles, or glass saddles, or engraved wood saddles. How cool is that ?  the possibilities are endless.

I know you found another solution to your problem, but I saw the original post and it got me thinking. I found the saddle piece to my pony that had been previously missing one the other day. I think I can make a mold from it, and then from there be able to fabricate one out of colored acrylic, if and when I can ever get back to work and have access to a pressure pot to cure it in. The latch/attachment piece would be tricky, but I'll put some thought into it!

Haha, not sure about a living, as I don't know how much of a market there is for them beyond the few collectors out there who are missing one, but it would be rewarding to be able to help a few broken ponies achieve a new life if it worked! I've made some cool things out of dental acrylic. I'm hoping one of my old Princess Pony wands turns up so I can try to duplicate them...that I know will be easy!
