As an adult collector I can think of a bunch of weird things. The Pinkie Pie polymorph merpony for example. And the changing hair G2s.

But the one that springs to mind most for me is Wriggle Pocket (US: Bubblefish). Because even as a nine or ten year old kid, when I saw those in store I was like...what?!

...Still bought her, mind you. But if it could make a nine year old think it was odd, it was probably pretty odd as concepts go. I never thought Songster was weird as a kid, or Bangles (hairdo), but Wriggle Pocket? She was weird.

The fancy mermaids are so weird. Honestly the g1 seaponies weird me out too - that normal seahorse body and then horse head combo is just bizarre looking.

I love them as adorable-animals-of-unknown-species, but what *are* they?  kittens?  fish?  ponies? chibi dolphins with ears?   LOL

I agree with Bubblefish and the lot. Giving it a bit more thought is like...so is it flesh? Or is it just like something they attached? I get it's a toy, but I keep imagining flesh pockets.

The rump symbols of the defecating birds on G1 twins Puddles and Peeks are bizarre to me. I can't imagine how whoever designed that possibly thought it could look like anything else. My sister and I always called them 'Piddles and Poops'.

I would also agree with those who mentioned the Fancy Mermaid set.  I loved them as a kid, but a lady who does not collect called them "sea cats" because she did not know they were little ponies.
