Brown Eye'd Parasol?
« on: June 15, 2015, 09:08:52 AM »
Hello everyone, I would like some help!

All of my rainbow ponies that I own, and all others for that fact, all have black lining for their eyes. I was cleaning up an extra Parasol that I own and I noticed she has brown lining for her eyes. I tried to research this, and I can't find anything. I don't think she's from another country and I completely forget where I got her. Her right hoof says '83 Hasbro Pat Pend and her left hoof says Hong Kong. But why the brown liner and lashes? Here's some photos. Please and thank you!

From what I've found from searching the Arena, the ponies other members have with brown eyeliner either are European or Nirvanas. So, I don't know?

Could it just be fading? It would be unusual that the rest of the color didn't fade, but I know black ink can easily fade to brown.

Not all ponies got black eyeliner :) you can get shades of grey, brown and even navy in the G3 ponies.

I have had a few brown eyed parasols through my hands over time.

It is not always the case the eyeliner colour indicates variation as bluerose mentioned, but it is sometimes a clue especially in the case of the Scandinavian Truly and Cupcake.

From my experience, some ponies just have black while others have brown.

Black / blue-black tends to be an earlier release, while brown is more commonly found in the later years of G1 after the switch to China manufacture from Hong Kong in non-Nirvanas - neither is more sought after than the other though, they'll fetch the same price.   That said, it's quite common to find variations in black/blue-black/brown-black all through the G1 run.  Factories weren't very consistent on what constituted 'black'.
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

Yup, as PKW says there is just some variety in eye liner - some black, some brown, some a funny greyish. Its worth remembering the sheer number of these ponies that would have been made, across a varied period of time and potentially different factories (depending on manufacture). Some minor variety in everything from body colour to eye colour is about the only "standard" thing across most G1s. :)

She looks lovely - I love brown eyeliner it looks softer than the black I always think.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
