Pony Corral / Re: Upcoming: Transformers / MLP crossover graphic novel
« on: February 10, 2020, 07:00:52 AM »
Absolutely hate this.

If it was either G1 MLP or even the current iteration of TF I wouldn't have minded it and it would've made more sense but oh boy, of course it had to be G1 TF + FiM aka more pointless regurgitated pop culture crossover garbage  :pout:

G4 is a disease IMO and the very ignorant comments by TF fans toward the previous MLP gens is not helping.

I lurk in TF forums enough to know that TF fans DO get to Brony levels of Bad, just in a different kind of way.

Its not gate keeping if you dislike something. And fans don't have ultimate cosmic control of whether or not a reiteration will be made at all.

I don't disagree with you on the first part.
I also feel like we had this convo a couple of times already. Dislike can come in many forms. Some people have been so gross about this show from the get-go and if you are not one of them then you don't need to feel addressed.

The second part... Fan feedback nowadays can change an entire show. Look at FiM. Anti-fans can also become so vocal that creators are getting fired or online critique falls out overly negative because antis click a "zero" button 1000 times an hour.

Not that this will happen to She-Ra because it is widely liked apparently.
I am just fed up with grownups getting so heated and angry over a reboot of something from their childhood they start insulting people, especially young people, who are into it.

I wonder how the Transformers fandom survived the "Trukk not Munky" times, how MLP fandom survived the "shadow years"... I am glad I was too young and uninvolved back then because people would have verbally ripped me to shreds on usenet.
It must be scary to be a kid on the internet in 2018 when some SheRa Brony... (She-bro?) suddenly comes for your She-Ra cred and tells you the thing you love is trash and you are trash for liking it

If people like it thats fine. Its good that its doing well. I think maybe people in general are just burnt out on reboots,  because there is like maybe, 1 or 2 good reboots (ThunderCats 2011,  Duck Tales) for every 5 sucky ones. (Teen Titans Go, ThunderCats Roar, Mega Man Fully Charged TMNT: Rise of the Turtles, the Jem movie).

Every reboot these days is almost always met with leery or negative reactions. And whose fault is that? The cartoonists for pulling down their pants and taking a massive dump on it, more often then not, and telling us that we will like it.

I will say in fairness that neither the fans, nor the creators are blameless when it comes to nastiness and drama online. Takes two to argue.

Rise of the TMNT is good though. While Thundercats 2011 had good animation the writing was kinda bland and cliched, and even ROTTMNT's dynamic stylized animation blows TC2011's generic wannabe anime out of the water too if you ask me. I wouldn't compare the recent TMNT to other reboots because TMNT, like Transformers, gets a new iteration every few years or soon after the latest one ends, unlike those other franchises that have not been touched for a long while until they rode the recent reboot trend.

I like Bow's and Angella's designs those 2 definitely look better than the originals, and the backgrounds are quite nice but that's pretty much all the positive I can currently say about this so far.
I just don't think I will like the writing/characterization with what they've currently shown.

The more I see of this the less excited and optimistic I am to be honest...

While I am always for diverse body types I'm just not feeling the art style itself and most of the designs at all.. Something about the art style to me just lacks 'flair' idk..

With the story/writing- I am honestly super suuuper tired of Avatar/Voltron LD/Young Justice/Dragon Prince whatever etc.. type cartoons (and their bland art styles too)...

While I don't think the original cartoon was actually good its timely goofiness was part of it's charm and why it was fun to watch.

Prolly won't watch this anymore...

The newer designs are awful on closer inspection. Its like they're edging closer into Cal-Arts territory.

There is no such thing as 'Cal-Arts style'. The reason why so many cartoons today looks similar is the same reason the looked similar in previous decades - because it's the style that's currently trendy. I mean, the earliest usage of the term 'calarts style' was for The Iron Giant movie of all things...

Pony Corral / Re: "The Toys That Made Us”. Even more Interviews

I'll say it again, I'm not even that big on G3s but if the episode does not give G3 proper credit then it's worthless.

I have a bad feeling it will only focus on G1 and G4 (yuck)
IMO there is no point in interviewing VAs like Tara Strong, etc. as they have nothing to do with either the toys or even the conception of the brand's media.

I'm not even that much of a G3 collector but if the episode does not give G3 the credit it deserves then it's worthless

The Dollhouse / Re: The blind boxed doll trend
« on: July 16, 2018, 10:15:03 PM »
Nope.
I dislike blind packed anything but at the very least I can sorta understand them for SMALL and CHEAP toys and even for stuff like LOL since those are still fairly small.

But Hairdorables are the final straw for me. I actually really like the dolls themselves but the fact that they are sold blind is making me hate them and hate the blind box trend even more than I already do I mean they are around $15 Shoppies/Chelsea/Kelly sized dolls already making them the current most expensive and largest line of blind packed toy plus their packaging is super wasteful even compared to LOL as the boxes are very large compared to the doll, the accessories and stickers are in sauce packets, and a cardboard 'playset' is pointless and easily damaged and will most likely just be thrown away.
Anyway, aside from the fact that it's 'trendy' I see no reason why a doll line like this especially of its size and price should even be blind boxed. Tbh while I like the dolls I hope this decision to sell them blind makes them flop...

The new Ducktales is great everyone should give it a chance and this is coming from someone who is sick and weary of reboots...

HK's "mama" is so eccentric! I loved that. This is the kind of industry people I love to see more of. She was so frank about HK having no mouth.

Indeed, she was the most interesting part of that episode and I would've like to have seen more about her life. I like that she is clearly unafraid to still live and dress how she likes even in her 60s.

I have to be honest... The more I think about it, the more I DON'T want an MLP episode... -_-

I'll only mention ongoing and upcoming shoes in this post because if I talk about any finished shows this post will become A LOT longer lol.

I know its scheduling is pretty erratic and the episodes aired out of order but I think everyone should still keep any eye out for the new Ducktales as it's an excellent show and it looks Disney Channel is at least trying to fix the schedule now to be more consistent.

Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters is a great but underrated and well-written(something I have not seen in action cartoons since the early 2010s) action cartoon everyone should check out imo.

I've only seen a few episodes but Hanazuki: Full of Treasures is looking good, I really like the art style, and the show feels like FiM but without all the annoying stuff, I just wish it had more characters as the cast is pretty small.

Again, I've only seen a few episodes of it so I can't comment a full opinion but Mysticons is an interesting action cartoon aimed at girls, and feels a bit like a modern spiritual successor to shows like She-Ra and Jewel Riders.

Upcoming shows I am interested in are Netflix's She-ra, Rise of The TMNT (still a bit unsure with the writing/dialogue from the very short clips they've shown but I LOVE the artstyle), Netflix's Green Eggs and Ham, and even though I do not listen to their music much, The Gorillaz animated series.

I'll never get over the fact that Barbie had her origins in BILD magazine (basically a German The Sun, a hateful gossip rag) and was pretty much a s*x object before Mattel stole her and transformed her into a rolemodel for young girls but with the same crazy proportions

I didn't watch the episode on Barbie, but I hope they mentioned BILD-Lilli.

I'm watching the one on Hello Kitty right now and still waiting for them to mention Nijntje, the Dutch bunny girl Hello Kitty was stol err based on...

Miffy>>>>>>Hello Kitty

If a MLP episode ever gets made I kinda fear for it, it will most likely have a 'sad' ending for me with how G4 is and the 'fanbase' it attracted...

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Shopkins Lil' Secrets
« on: May 25, 2018, 12:52:14 AM »
Not into Shopkins and their other sub-lines have yet to grab me but...

I absolutely cannot wait for these!

I've admired Bluebird's Polly Pockets for a while but I only own 1 compact/playset and not only are they always sought after they seem to be going for a lot on the 2nd hand market, and I have a hard time liking the upcoming Polly Pockets by Mattel because of (imo) their lack of design and their unappealing color choices.

My only gripe is that the smaller, mini compacts are going to be blind boxed... because of course they are   :pout:

Why are they changing it so that she's not Prince Adam's twin sister? What is it with wtiters believing they hafta change core aspects?

Probably because there is currently no ongoing or upcoming He-Man franchise reboot to go along with it.

Anyways..
I don't like the new Voltron but I'm still fairly excited and optimistic for this one, because of the writers/crew involved and that a lot of other characters like Mermista and Netossa already being confirmed. I'm just hoping the art style is more unique instead of being either  'round and quirky' or anime/Avatar-styled derivative like a lot of modern cartoons.

Though my only true worry is the toys, as Mattel's quality is currently, and has been, the absolute worst in these past few years.
