Title: Magical girl raising project?
Post by: Mermaid on November 27, 2016, 12:20:22 AM
Has any one been watching this anime?! Episode 9 came out today, and MAN.... I'm just...wow.

For those of you who do not know this anime, it's adapted from a light novel series. It follows a group of magical girls, who were selected to become magical girls through a new smart phone game app.

It's SUPER dark. Like madoka on roids. It's pretty heavy, and the first 7 seconds or so prove it. You can watch it on Crunchyroll or find it online.

Is anyone else watching this anime?! I can't find many people who have seen it so alas I don't have anyone to gab about it with!

We've started watching it, but have a few episodes to catch up on. It is definitely like a dark Madoka (we love Madoka, some day I'll get my Kyoko cosplay costume).

I've been watching it, though I'm only at Episode 8 because it looks like Episode 9 has only been released for paid crunchyroll users so far. It doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere, and none of the characters are particularly deep, but they're cute enough I've been letting that slide.

After reading about it here, I had a look at Wikipedia, and it sounds really interesting. Probably too dark for me, though.

So I watched it- all.  Wow, it really is dark- and violent.  Definitely NOT a "magical girl" type anime.

I kinda hate the killing off of... you know.  But of course now I have to see how this all plays out.

I want to see it now! Its been on my "to watch list" and from what ive heard like most of you has said, its not kid-friendly and ruins the fantasy of becoming majokko for many fans. xD

See, I really LOVE the darker anime majokko series because theres a harsh reality to being a cute magical girl. Being stick skinny, adorable, magic powers and cute costumes would always come with a giant sacrifice. Theres always a huge trade (loved ones die, you lose your sanity, etc with how more "magical" you get) and there would be NOTHING cute or magical about it IRL lol. Ive always laughed when people say "I wish I was like Sailor Moon or Precure". Hopefully this anime is just what im looking for!

I saw the first episode and loved it. Sadly I haven't had time to watch the rest just yet but it's high priority.  ^.^

Also, that ending theme is gorgeous.  :inlove:

So this series finished, and I can't say I was really too impressed with it after the fact. The surviving characters didn't strike me as particularly more deserving to survive than anyone else, and most of the others didn't make any lasting impact on the world. They seemed to just be there to provoke either a positive or a sad reaction from the viewers when they died. I think more characters would have had to have lived for it to be more interesting in that respect. And the animation budget didn't quite seem to be there a lot of the time for the fight scenes.

I just finished this series in just about one day...
I liked it, but it still felt VERY VERY similar to Madoka which maybe made me like it less?
Like Pon was just like Kyubey where you know he is evil. And Snow White was JUST like Madoka and of course you have her dark counterpart(s).
It was also SO DEPRESSING. They killed off all of my favorite characters. I'm glad I watched it but oh is it sad and dark.

I'll have to add this one to my watch list, from the sounds of it.

I feel like they used the extreme violence as a way to avoid a more detailed story line...

I love PMMM, but
Spoiler
after Rebellion and how long it's been since they gave any word of a continuation of the series, and all the unnecessary milking and decline in quality blah blah blah -coughWraithArccough-
I might enjoy a new dark magical series, at least while I wait.
