Customs / A Handful of Customs
« on: June 19, 2021, 03:49:25 PM »
Hello there! I've been working my way up to doing customs again, and here are some of the victims results!

G4 Fluttershy, made with... G4 Fluttershy?

Mini Mimics made with a blind bag and one of the little figures that comes with Hershey's Kisses. I know her colors are kind of off model...

I've just been calling this one Sunset. Let me know if you have any name suggestions!

I promise I'll have something more exciting to share soon! Getting back into customizing after years away is proving a bit more challenging than I expected, but I'm so happy to be back on the Arena and posting customs again.

I've got more pictures up on my Instagram for any pony folks who hang out over there. Everyone but Fluttershy is up for sale over here if any of them call to you. Prices are on the low side since they're... you know, a bit flawed.

Wanted! / Want List (mostly G1 & bait)
« on: May 07, 2021, 02:06:56 PM »
I'd love to do a trade or partial trade if anything I have for sale sparks your interest.

For G1s in need of some TLC: the only flaw that I would rather not deal with is significant discoloration (regrind, head/body mismatch, brown spots, etc). Bad hair, scuffed paint, extensive wear from play, miscellaneous marks, rust, mold, and even chews are all good!

G1

Nightglider
Salty
Barnacle
Sugar Apple
Seaflower
Twinkler (either version)
Ice Crystal (I likely cannot afford Ice Crystal)

Any not-super-common ponies in need of restoration work, especially:
- Sparkle Ponies
- Merry Go Round Ponies
- Candy Cane Ponies
- Sunshine Ponies
- Rainbow Curl Ponies
- Teeny Tiny Baby Ponies
- Summerwings/Windy Wings

G2

Drifter and/or Dreamer

G3

Abra-ca-dabra (doesn't need to have outfit!)

BAIT (G1s can be reproductions!)

G1 Bowtie pose (white, orange, blue)
G1 Surprise pose (white, yellow)
G1 Gusty pose (white)
G1 Baby Ember pose (any color)
G1 Baby Glory pose (any color)
G1 Newborn or Teeny Tiny (any color)

For Sale - For Auction / G1s & G3s (updated 6/1)
« on: April 21, 2021, 02:44:00 PM »
Hello, friends, and welcome to my sales post! I've tried to be very thorough and nit-picky in my descriptions (especially for G1s), but if I've overlooked anything and you'd like additional pictures or information, feel free to ask. Please note that all items come from a non-smoking, cat-friendly home. If you're allergic to cats, let me know and I'd be happy to give any ponies you're purchasing an extra wash before sending them off to you.

I've washed and conditioned all of these ponies at some point, but most of them recently spent a couple of months boxed up. Most of them could use a surface clean and condition. If you'd like me to do that for you, just let me know and give me a couple of extra days to get them fully dry!

NOTE: I may not be able to check MLPA messages every day for a while, apologies!

Prices: I know that pricing for ponies is all over the place, so I've gone with my best guess based on Ebay and Mercari. Don't be afraid to make offers or let me know if I'm off.

To Buy: Send me a private message with the items you're interested in along with your zipcode (USA) or country (international) so I can get you a shipping estimate. Once you've agreed to the total, I'll send you a payment request via Paypal. I won't charge you for any transaction fees, so don't worry about those.

Payment: Paypal only! I would also trade for ponies on my recently-updated want list.

Shipping: By default, I will ship using the least expensive option with tracking. If you'd like your items to be mailed in a different way or insured, just let me know!

G1

Snow Angels Puffy Sticker (reverse) - $6
The sticker is unused, undamaged, on its original backing, and in the plastic sleeve it came in.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Great Skates Ponywear (on a model) - $4
The skates are fully intact with all wheels and pieces. The cloth part of the skates is a bit fuzzy on the back where the velcro attaches (from being fastened and unfastened). The hot pink frill on the saddle blanket is a bit frayed, but the ribbon ties have no fraying at all on the ends.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Blossom with original ribbon (other side) - $10
Blossom with concave feet and her original white ribbon is in great condition. Her hair is shiny, uncut, and rust free. The bottom plug on the underside of her mane is missing; for a true match, you could cut a snippet from the middle of her tail and fill the plug in. Eyes are perfect, symbols have minimal wear, and she has no significant marks. There are some faint miscellaneous marks that may come off with a magic eraser -- while I have cleaned her, she's been in storage for some time and could use another spa day. Blossom has a slight head/body mismatch that I only notice in direct lighting. Her ribbon is unstained, not wrinkled, and has a small amount of fraying to the ends.

G3

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Breezie Azalea Bloom (NDS) - $3
This Breezie is in good condition. She has a speck on the side of her nose and a pink dot on the back of her neck seam and her mane is a bit dry. She has a slight head/body mismatch. Everything else looks good!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Fluttershy III (NDS) - $4
Fluttershy is in good condition! Her hair is nice and the pink is still quite vivid. Her symbol has one smudge and her eyelashes aren't as crisp as they could be; her heart hoof is badly smudged. She doesn't have any marks that stand out, but there is an overall shadowy-ness to her display side.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Easter Gigglebean (NDS) - $6 (HOLD)
Gigglebean is in good condition! She has some very minor marks (pink on her back right hoof, dot on her stomach) but her eyes and symbol are great and she looks fantastic on display. Her hoof heart is rubbed and her hair, while uncut and glossy, is a bit dry. A good round of conditioning should help her out immensely. I believe she has the very beginnings of tail rust.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Baby Honolu-Loo (NDS) - $6 (HOLD)
This baby looks good! Her hair is a bit dry but manageable, and her eyes and symbol are good with one very minor scratch to the non-display side eye. Her metallic raised designs and light pink wings have some rubs, and the paint on her non-display side wing looks a bit sloppy. Her body is a uniform off-white with some play wear around the hooves. Please take a good look at the pictures for this one!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Minty (NDS) - $4
Minty's real problem is dry, dry hair with crinkled tinsel. Other than that, the only noteworthy flaw I see is a scratch to her non-display eye.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Butterfly Island Skywishes (NDS) - $2
I'd consider this pony baity because of all of the marks. There's blue pen on her back leg, grayish marks on her rump and neck, a green mark on her non-display side shoulder, pen on the back of one ear, and a hot pink spot on one hoof. Her eyes, symbols, and hair are all pretty decent with some dryness to the ends of her hair.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Sunny Daze with plastic tail (NDS) - $1
She's ever so slightly smaller than a normal G3 with a plastic tail and a much harder body. Her symbol is badly rubbed and she has a pen mark under her mane. The tip of her nose is slightly orange and there's some staining on the bottoms of her hooves. Great mane though!

OTHERS

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

NIB Sunny Starscout: Crystal Adventure - $8
The box's hang tag is creased at the bottom; the box is otherwise in perfect shape. The pony inside has a blue smudge on her face above her eyebrow; I would recommend going over the spot with a magic eraser after opening.

Bitty Blossoms (pic two, pic three, pic four) - $10
I made this girl in 2015. She has her factory hair (as well as a slight head/body mismatch). She was repainted with acrylics. None of her painted areas are the least bit sticky after living in a box in a humid location for six years.

Introductions / Hello, Friends!
« on: April 16, 2021, 04:00:53 PM »
Hello all! I'm Veda/Kanthaka and, like some other folks, I'm coming back to the Arena after being away for years and years. I was most active from 2008 through 2012 and I was a mod in the Customs forum for a while, so I'm not new so much as making a comeback. Life, health, and an all-consuming job kept me away from hobbies, but now I'm dusting off the pony collection and the paints and getting back to customizing.

(Speaking of customs, my sincere apologies to anyone who has any of my old ones. I'm older and wiser now and know not to seal things with Mod Podge.)

I'm looking forward to hanging out here again!

Introductions / Long Time, No See?
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:38:24 AM »
Hey, MLPA! I'm Veda (or Kanthaka—I'll happily answer to either here) and, after disappearing into the night a couple of years ago, I'm ready to come back to the world of ponies. (You know, if you'll have me.) I've been out of the pony loop for a while now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's new. I'm sure there are a ton of new collectors and customizers out there!

It seems silly to say much about myself here, but feel free to ask me anything.

See you all around the forums!

Customs / Winter Swap Pony for Kaoskat
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:24:59 PM »
This is Lumi, created for Kaoskat in the 2012 Winter Swap.  I'm a little late with pictures.   She reached her home eons ago and Kat seemed pleased.

Kat's list for the swap mentioned that, while she loves snow, she lives in a place that doesn't see any.  I decided to combine the idea of snow with lights and sparkles--other things that appeared on her likes and things that I happen to like too.

She started out as a molded-wing Starcatcher that some enterprising young artist took a pen to.  I painted white snowflakes and frost patterns and "lights" on top of that.  After several layers of glitter and some odd glitter-stuff from my grandmother's house that looks like small glass beads (it reminded me of snow), I sealed her a couple of times with Testor's Dulllcote.

Lumi was rehaired with several hand-blended colors.  I don't remember the names, but I used a white, a pink, a blue, a yellow, a green, and a lot of Starlight.  She looked a little plain, so I added a braid, some metallic embroidery thread, and a chandelier crystal.  To finish, I sculpted some treats from Apoxie Sculpt, painted them, and repainted a G3 MLP serving tray to put them in.

Apologies for the picture quality, and thank you for looking!

Customs / Undead Ophelia
« on: October 28, 2012, 12:02:14 PM »
Since I started customizing, I've made a pony each year for Halloween.  This year's pony is Undead Ophelia.  I love "Hamlet" and recently saw a wonderful production of it; it seemed appropriate to make an Ophelia pony.  Before moving, I had a chance to take pictures of Ophelia by a lovely creek that my former apartment was next to.

Pictures first!

Ophelia started off as a very baity Sparkler with water damage and rust staining.  She was given a patchy full-body paintjob (very much inspired by PrincessOfDarkness' zombies) and sealed with Testors Dullcote.  Her display side symbol is a jawless skull (a general homage to "Hamlet") and a bloodied violet (a symbol of faithfulness).  Her other side shows dead daisies (symbols of innocence) and wilting rue.  She was rehaired with a blend of Dollyhair's Hematite, Evil Enchantress, and... a brown that I can't recall right now.  It's a really interesting color in person.

Most of the "mud" on her hooves is painted, but some of it might be authentic. :P  It was rather rainy and muddy when we went to the creek for pictures.

Undead Ophelia has found a home to go haunt!

Thank you for looking, and happy Halloween!

Customs / Electra and Saiph
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:43:38 AM »
Okay!  Somehow, I managed to get two of these space girls done around the same time.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

First is Electra.  She was made for TwilightWhispers, who wanted a space pony that somewhat matched her persona and had the moon on one side.  Electra hasn't been sent off to her new home yet, but I hope TW will like her in person!

Electra used to be a Fluttershy.  She was dyed and painted; her main symbol is a depiction of two galaxies colliding.  Part of the Cygnus nebula is on her forehead and her right front leg has the Pleiades star group on it ("Electra" is the name of one of the seven stars that forms this group).  Her hair is a careful blend of Dollyhair's Nickel and Moonlight with a Sour Grapes stripe.  I tried something new on the eyes with this girl.  They're not black, just a very dark purple.

Next is Saiph for Kalavista, who has received her pony and seems quite pleased.  Kala requested a pony similar to Meissa in this particular pose.

Saiph's main symbol is the Orion nebula.  Her name, which means "sword," is the name of a star in the Orion constellation.  The spiral nebula on her NDS front foot is loosely based on the Rosette nebula.  Her hair is a bunch of Dollyhair colors... Black Magick, Starlight, Ultraviolet, After Midnight, and probably others that I've forgotten.

Thank you so much for looking!

Customs / Yvette
« on: September 27, 2012, 10:00:00 AM »
This pony was the first G4 I ever started, but some mishaps made me chuck her into the bait box a few times.  I finally managed to finish her between projects!  I'm still not happy with her, but I was absolutely over the moon when I reattached her head properly.  :P

Yvette is no longer for sale.

Okay--now for the boring stuff.  I thought it would be neat to do an Art Nouveau pony in bright, modern colors, so I grabbed a G4 and rehaired.  The symbols, unfortunately, looked hideous when I painted them to match, but my attempts to fix them resulted in a miniature disaster.  In the end, I salvaged what I could and went over the symbols and parts of the eye with a bronze paint to give Yvette a more antiquated look.  The contrast between the bright hair colors and the toned-down symbols appeals to me, even if the symbols are still... um, not what I had intended.

I hope that, in spite of her flaws, you like her!

Customs / Cosmo
« on: August 16, 2012, 10:53:51 PM »
The other commission I finished arrived at her new home without mishap, so...!

Cosmo (her name was Carina, but I kind of like her new owner's name better) was commissioned by a very sweet girl on DeviantArt.  She wanted a nebula pony made from G1 Buttons' pose with the moon included.  Cosmo's owner's enthusiastic reaction to seeing her in person made me incredibly happy; I hope that you'll like her, too!

My shoddy camerawork killed a lot of the detail (black paint, why are you so difficult?), but there's the general idea!  Her hair is I-have-no-idea-how-many-colors of Dollyhair and she has a lot of texture to her.  Not only did the nebulas involve a lot of layering, but there are also a few coats of glow-in-the-dark paint over all of the lighter areas (I do that with all of the space ponies, but I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned it).  Cosmo is definitely an improvement over the last pony I tried to go all full-body nebula on; improvement is always a good thing.

Thanks for looking!

Customs / Marina
« on: August 16, 2012, 09:37:39 PM »
Hello again!  Now that I'm all moved, I can bother you guys with commissions I finally finished. :P

Marina was made for Airiel, who requested a white pony with blue swirls and (if I remember correctly) an oceany feel.  She also wanted the hair color After Midnight featured heavily.  Marina is the first straight-on swirly pony I've made for a while--and, really, one of very few ponies I've worked on recently--so I hope any rustiness on my part doesn't show.

She was rehaired with Dollyhair in four different blues (including After Midnight) and a touch of white.

Customs / Gift ponies (and one for me)
« on: July 22, 2012, 07:13:52 PM »
Hey, there.  Long time, no see?     Things are a little crazy and will continue to be crazy, but I have finished up a few ponies since the last time I was around here regularly.  I'll post the two commissions later, but first are two gift ponies... and one I made for me.  :P  I've never kept a custom I've made before and my friend has threatened to beat me if I sell him, so I guess I'm stuck with him!

The first was a birthday gift for one of my little brother's friends, Hannah.  I've been referring to her as my little sister since she hangs out with our family so often.

I've been calling the pony Hannatee, but I hope her owner has given her a better name. ;)  Hannah likes manatees, homemade things, light green, gray, and ballet pink, so... well.

The picture quality on the second isn't so good since I took them when I was visiting my friend in Maryland (where I'm moving in early August).  Her apartment has terrible lighting.  But yes!  She's really into Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, so I made a Korra for her.  The bait is actually a purply-brown and the hair is a very dark brown; I'm not sure if the pictures show that.  The hair was... an interesting challenge.

And finally, the second G4 custom I've ever started (but not the second that I've finished).  I ran across the FiM set with the baby ponies in it at TRU when things were on sale and wanted to have a go at customizing a baby.  I'm completely obsessed with Star Trek and Apple Bloom clearly wanted to be someone in command gold.  While I'm loyal to the original series, I based Chekov on the one in the 2009 movie; the original just didn't lend himself to tiny cutesiness.

His hair is actually a mix of three different browns, but it's very difficult to tell.  The hair was so much fun to style, and I had a good time with the eyes.  Such a giant space to work with!

And, because I'm a complete nerd:

Customs / Kali
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:31:00 PM »
Long time, no see?      I'm so sorry for not being around, but now I'm getting back in the groove of things and have a pony to share!

Kali was a G3 clonie-pose Scootaloo.  I doodled on her with micron pens, added some color, and gave her a slightly glossy seal.  She's rehaired with Dollyhair's Black Magick with some Evil Enchantress (if I remember correctly).  Kali's no longer for sale.

I love the rich art and symbolism associated with Hinduism and Buddhism and that's what inspired Kali.  I mean no disrespect to the faiths or their practitioners.

Again, apologies for being AWOL.  I'm looking forward to catching up on everyone's customs!

Thank you for looking.
