Woops! I bought a three legged pony.
If I had read past the words 'played with' condition, I might have seen 'amputation' further down in the description.
This is my first time trying to post an image, but in case it doesn't work...here's the description... I accidentally bought the sister of the Apple Delight loving family with only three legs.
I'm not opposed to trying my hand at epoxie sculpt, but i've never done anything like this before.
In the experienced opinion of customisers / restorers, is this even worth trying or is a missing leg just too much work?
I've been thinking of ways I could take a mold of the existing leg of a baby in the same pose and use it to make a new leg.
Any advice welcome, even if it's to cut my losses and bin her :-(

its not that hard to work with! I'd suggest putting some kind of armature underneath of some sort! Just make sure to wear gloves and sand it down after 24 hrs

totally repairable. Display only, of course

I like your optimism! Can I ask what an armature is? Google wasn't very elightening!
Thanks

An armature is a support that you put inside of a scultpute, kind of like a skeleton. In this case, I would pobably build an armature out of aluminum foil, stick it in the leg hole, and sculpt a new leg around it with apoxie sculpt.

I would take the opportunity to make something out of resin but that's probably expensive, lol. Sanding is key! If you have a pony in the same mold, you can always look to her for inspiration. It might be easier since you're not sculpting small, thin details, just a large chunk.

Aww, poor baby! Definitely don't toss them - I'm sure someone will have a use for them! Me personally, I'd suggest making a cool pirate pony peg-leg situation! Yarrr! I be an apple pirate pony now! :lmao: Making a mold and filling it with resin will also work, but it'll be a lot of effort!

I love this! It would be awesome and adorable :silly:

I vote for tin foil armature plus epoxy sculpt. It looks like an ideal starter project for sculpting and you will have bought some interesting materials and have an awesome new skill. Plus it's a white pony so easy to colour match with hopefully only a tiny bit of tweaking.

Thanks all! The pirate idea is definitely cute!
I've ordered some apoxie sculpt and I'll have a go at some of your suggestions. I think she will never be quite right, so seing as she is white, I might take off her symbols and make my first ever 'custom' Poor little thing :(

A huge thanks for the tips and recommendations from people on here. I ended up making a splint from a paperclip wrapped in tin foil and angled it like the leg before filling with apoxie sculpt!
The leg is nowhere near perfect, but for my first ever reconstructive surgery to make a custom baby I'm happy (plus it's not display side).
Here she is!

She’s beautiful! And I agree, it looks smooth, but also like a prosthetic. We love body diversity baby Sundance (and the pose works so well for Sundance too)

Great job! She is so cute. Now you should make up a fun backstory for her about how she came to need her cool new prosthetic!
