I am so excited! It looks like we'll be getting a new special character that looks like a younger Chip?

Admittedly I've never actually played an Animal Crossing game but I really want to play this one!

The art in NH is so pretty! NL's charm wore off really fast, I didn't like the weird texture everything was rendered with. NH's art style looks nice and simple and vibrant. And when you look at the different seasons in-game you can really feel it. It has a great atmosphere.

Whatshisface... Harvey, is it... he's returning? I just noticed him and that island...? Is that a side thing to do, perhaps? Or is camping returning in some form...?

I’m so going to get this game, but not from the Game store but the official U.K Nintendo website.

Unpopular opinion but I'm tired of Isabelle and won't really miss her if she's gone. She's cute, but she's not the only cute character.  Harvey could fit in, I could see that. I just hope that if there's an island it doesn't turn the whole game into beetle farming like NL did. Maybe he could run a tourist office or something!

:iconclap: She really took over the series. She's cute and nice but to me she sort of embodies the "too nice"-ness of ACNL. The animals in that game were all the same exact personality really, and I felt no reason to greet my neighbours everyday or try to make friends because everyone had the same things to say. If someone moved I wasn't ever upset about it.

I was actually quite pleased with the new art direction they took for New Leaf. I thought it worked very well. When New Horizons info was first released I was really underwhelmed by it. By the second trailer they showed in September I was pretty much sold, though. I don't know what really changed.

For me, I'm fine with Isabelle, but she has never really stuck out to me like she has to so many others. I was surprised by how much people wanted her in Super Smash Bros, and then her ended up getting included.

To be fair, though, if any character in the game needed to be nice, Isabelle was the right choice. Like it's funny to walk into the post office at night and run into Phyllis, but to have an animal that showed up as often as Isabelle did be rude would have been off. Especially since she was your assistant. I'd just want to be like "You're rude, I should be able to fire you over that and hire someone else". lol

They should let us choose! I'd pick Gracie personally to be my assistant.  :silly: "Mayor, we should raise some funds to get you a more sightly outfit." I think Isabelle fits NL's vibe very well but I think the oversaturation of her online is just...tiring me.
I'm particularly excited about the range of character options they seem to give us right off the bat. I don't have to put up with a hairstyle I hate for a few months until I build a hair salon? Nice! The different nose shapes are great, too.
I do really like that we'll be getting two villagers to hang out with for a while. It's a nice way to grow some new faves, just being forced to look at them for so long. I really do hope they flesh out the dialogue options this time around, I think it's a fairly common complaint from people who played other games growing up, so I'm hoping it's one that won't be ignored.

I can't wait for this! It's come a long way since the original, which will always be my favourite, and I've been playing Pocket Camp every day to tide me over until this comes out. I might even get NL out again while I wait.

I've pre-ordered NH :D I hope it's worth the £55 (no pre-order bonus for that price? Sheesh)

So far I've only seen the bonuses within the UK. My partner and I decided to go with Smyths for our pre-order because of the stationary set. I just can't say no to stickers!

An Animal Crossing-themed switch has been revealed and those pastel Joy-Cons are to die for! The Splatoon Joy-Cons were sold separately, so I hope the same happen with these! I love the leaf case too but I wouldn't have much use for it, haha.

It releases March 13th: https://animal-crossing.com/new-horizons/

The case will be sold separately, too. Also the console doesn't come with the game, unlike previous bundles (I think). :P

There's a bundle in the UK that comes with it, I'm upset that this one doesn't come with the game! I still seriously might get it using my tax return money. We have a Switch but I rarely play it due to my sisters usually being on it. It's a hassle to get a hold of to play. I'll have to sleep on it more, but I really love the color scheme!

I wish Joy-cons weren’t so expensive. That’s a nice color.

I've pre-ordered the console! I was considering getting the case to match, but the pre-orders on Target have sold out twice already! I'll probably make my own custom one to have my favorite villager on it because I'm not a huge fan of the case anyway. Or maybe it's just sour grapes.
I'm not sure if there will be console pre-order issues, but I know some Canada retailers have capped their pre-orders already. Amazon has a placeholder but no pre-order yet.

Yeah, I really liked the pink Joycon from the Splatoon set. Apparently the US vs European (IIRC) version had reversed Joycons, so you could get one set of each and have two pink Joycons.

But then I saw the price for even one pair of Joycons and was like "Nope".

So, to someone who loves Pokemon and Mario (and I loved Spyro back in the day!) would you recommend this game?

Any particular reviews I should read?

I'm considering this and/or Breath of the Wild to expand my games.  (As literally I only have Pokemon Shield right now for my Switch Lite.)

I'd love to know more!  <3

So, to someone who loves Pokemon and Mario (and I loved Spyro back in the day!) would you recommend this game?
I love both of those games, but it's not exactly comprable to either of those. It's basically a life simulator where you are a villager/mayor in a little town of animals. I think there's a big overlap between Pokemon and AC fans. It's much more laid back though, and you play in real time (unless you time travel...it's meant to be experienced in real time :P) to grow the town. There's a lot of collectibles and design aspects of the game, and this one will have tons more design aspects (that we know of! still a lot of stuff we haven't heard of yet) because you can decorate the town itself much more than before.
I'm not sure about reviews, but I would suggest getting a ROM of a previous game to see how you feel about it. New Leaf (3DS) s the fullest of the games, but Population Growing (Gamecube, the original in America) is a bit more clunky but has a lot of charm. I have a soft spot for Wild World, but be warned the graphics aren't quite there (at least on official hardware, not sure how the ROMs perform) and there aren't as many holidays as the other games have. City Folk is essentially Wild World on the Wii.
This game is supposed to differ from previous ones in that you start out with less villagers and there is crafting now, which is new. If you're like me and you love both Mario and Pokemon for the collecting aspect, then I think you're sure to at least find some fun in this game!

One thing is you could take note of what makes you like the other games. Animal Crossing may be its own thing, but there are still some draws to it that you can find in small amounts in other series... Like in Pokemon, if you like dressing up your character, like decorating the Secret Bases in R/S/E/OR/AS, like the day/night cycle and having different events happen (something they haven't done much at all in Pokemon since G/S/C *sigh*), these are all prominent features you'll find in Animal Crossing.

My first experience with Animal Crossing on the GCN was magical. It was just so different from what I had played before, yet, also amazing. I was so happy to see a game that focused on creativity and interaction instead of stress and fighting all of the time.

I'd say at least give Animal Crossing a try! I sure am glad I did!

I thought it was neat to see that the clothing has shape outside of the typical rectangle wrapped around the villager. Like the shirt with a bow? And the scalloping at the hem of a dress? I wonder if we can design clothing with transparent pixels to give a finished edge of a certain look. I hope they keep that feature in somehow, that was always my favorite thing to do. Despite some of the clothing looking shaped to a certain point, I see they still use textures like they did in Gamecube as a lot of the clothing because the sheep's shirts look stretched out.
Ragamuffin, I see what you were talking about on Tumblr with some of the models looking noisy or low quality. Isabelle's render especially looks very noisy. I think the effect works well on some of the animals and gives me Calico Critters vibes, but I think on characters that have less detailing/just one or two colors the effect looks odd. I think it'll look nicer on the console itself, at least.

I finally made my way over to Gamestop to pre-order my copy. I'm hoping for a midnight release, and I heard that the console pre-orders are sold out in the US. I'd imagine we will get some restocks.
Also just sighed and paid for the Switch case Target had. I'm admittedly getting a little AC-crazy but this is the first release I have a job and income for, so I'm alright with spoiling myself. RIP pony budget

What do you guys plan on naming your towns? I hope they up the character limit to 12, 8 is ridiculous. I'd like to name my town Meadowbrook or Gladebrook if possible. My town in New Leaf was Wisteria, but I want something different this time around. I don't have any ideas for anything shorter. Menhir was the name of my secondary town in New Leaf but I don't know if I want to go with that for New Horizons...

I'd really like to know the character limit before I have my heart set. I was thinking of something cute, but there are so many people who name their towns things like "Milk" or "Stardust". Meadowbrook is a wonderful sounding name! I'll think about it today...

T_T; I really want those pretty limited edition joy cons.

I apparently missed the boat for just getting a switch to swap out, so ... I have to attempt to get them from Japan I guess. u_u; I have no luck ordering from Nintendo tho. so maybe I'm out of luck this time...

I'm not sure if I want to play the game again. I have a habit of hoarding deer and it gets stressful to me, because I never want them to move out. If I get that LE switch tho, I'll play it.

There's a website some people are using to track stock on Best Buy, etc. I'm not sure how it notifies you, but some people may be cancelling their pre-orders for one reason or another, might be worth a shot.
AC Moore closing had some nice $5 notebooks, Im going to use it as a way to track collections. I am a collecting fiend and find that if I find an online guide that tells me when things happen, I just use it and it's no fun...so I think keeping my own records will help.

maybe I'll have to look into that!

I can't remember how I got poptart (the AC 3DS).. I feel like I just found it the stores. But I'm sure I wouldn't have that sort of luck this time.

Everyone on Reddit is actually citing the pop tart 3DS when people are saying they'll just pick it up in stores, ha. Sounds like you were super lucky! I think people are speculating there will be a small wave of post-preorders, and I think Gamestop might get 1-5 extra consoles per store but that hasn't been officially confirmed. Maybe if you call Gamestop a few days ahead of the release (MARCH 13th, not the 20th, that's the game's release) they can tell you if that store will come in stock?
Here's that site I mentioned! (https://www.nowinstock.net/videogaming/consoles/nintendoswitch/)
Also, just saw that Nintendo says coronavirus-induced factory closures will not affect North America or UK preorders of the Switch.

Oh, put your payment information on the site ahead of time under an account! It saves you time when you go to pay, I'm not sure when they reserve the console for you but if it's once the payment is processed, you might have a nice shot.
Nintendo had an unboxing of the console here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmTjdPoORQw) on their YouTube. I'm very excited to get it, but I wish the grips weren't just black! I love holding the joycons in the grip...The review itself is a bit awkward and weird to watch. :P

I was considering replacing my Switch buttons but it looks like the tiny surgery would be wayy too much. I figured it would be a simple pop in, avoid the elctronics, yadda yadda, but you have to disconnect like 5 cables?   :what: Maybe some other time. I don't want to risk breaking them.
Apparently any pre-orders placed on the console in the UK after Feb 12th will be shipped out in April.

If there is continued manufacturing troubles in China, it is likely that there will be a hardware shortage in April. Despite Nintendo sending units to the US from Vietnam (I'm pretty sure) to avoid tariffs, pieces required to build the actual consoles are ordered from China. Those units for February and March are already en route and won't be an issue but there is no guarantee beyond that.

-The online safeguards are such a good idea. It really sounds like they listened to the New Leaf players with a lot of these. So much customization!

Pretty hype for the most part.

Except for the features that require you to download the Online app. I get you need a way to scan the QR codes but come on! Animal Crossing could've benefited from having a gallery system similar to Smash or Mario Maker. I'm the only person on earth who doesn't have a smart phone at this point, I don't really want to buy one just so I can have better-looking pathways in Animal Crossing.

Ragamuffin,
Spoiler
I was FULLY expecting some sort of gallery feature. They seemed to listen so much to the New Leaf online community that they should have found SOME way to incorporate that as part of the Nookphone. I understand that the Switch doesn't have a camera, but there should be an option to import QR codes from something other than a Camera so someone could use an iPod or emulator to use it. Or even directly from the Switch?

29 days away...

OMG the museum is absolutely gorgeous!!!! And wow, they've definitely listened to the community, every other thing was something people have been begging for for years :O I half expected them to say you can now boot out villagers (er, islanders now, I guess?) you dislike, lol.

Eight players in one island is rad. I know when the new Pokemon games were announced, there were a lot of people saying "aw, I play that with my family member/lover/etc but I don't want to get another Switch.." so it's nice that Nintendo seem to have anticipated that and done something about it with this game. If that makes sense.

I wonder why so many of the NPCs got replaced, though. I miss Nat already :< Daisy Mae is soooo cute, though.

It's all so shiny and pretty :O

I wonder why so many of the NPCs got replaced, though. I miss Nat already :< Daisy Mae is soooo cute, though.

It's all so shiny and pretty :O

Spoiler
Ok, it's time to get cynical about Baby Game. I'm not a fan of them replacing the characters like this. I do like the new designs, but I feel like it's all about marketing. You can't make merchandise of Chip, Joan, and Nat. They're all "ugly". Nobody wants to buy stuff of them. However, CJ, Daisy Mae, and Flick? VERY merchandisable! Everyone on Twitter already loves Flick, drawing tons of fanart of her! When was the last time you saw someone gush about how much they love Nat?

Same with the villagers. I love the horse one at least, and I always love cats. But this batch of villagers they've shown off caters to the crowd who loves those kinds of characters. Think of Marshal, Merengue, Goldie, etc. The "cute" characters. They are even heavily featured in trailers and merchandise. The snow cone-looking bear? The cutesy sheep, the hipster cat? They're all going to be fought over. And if it weren't for amiibo cards, people would probably resort to buying/selling them on eBay like they did with ACNL. People who didn't play ACNL back in 2013 wouldn't understand the Marshall hype, I think. I STILL don't understand the Marshall hype. He's not that cute or unique. He's just a squirrel and one of many smug types you can get.

I guess I'm going to be Old Man Yells At Cloud at this, because ACNH offers a LOT of things I'm excited about, a lot of quality of life improvements, but a big part of Animal Crossing is having villagers you don't like, having ugly villagers. And sometimes you grow to really like them. And if you don't, you can beat them over the head with a net and push them into pitfalls. It's all part of the experience. Being able to call up anyone you want and having all of the new ones be super likeable and not-at-all ugly? Isn't as fun. I guess you don't have to do it if you don't want to but still... These new characters are all "Marshall"-esque... when are we going to get someone who's more like... Prince, for instance? XD It also feels superficial. Instead of befriending and liking anyone who comes into your town because they're nice or cool or something, it's all about the
~ .: * a e s t h e t i c * :. ~. People are going to get all the cutesy villagers solely because they match their pastel fairytale town theme.

Not only that, but it also goes into the "Animal Crossing now is too nice" thing which I wholeheartedly agree on. I talked about this before earlier in the thread how the animals nowadays are too nice and lack and personality. There's no incentive to go and make friends because their personalities all boil down to "Hey neighbour! Beautiful day, huh! I think I'm going to go eat some fruit!". Compare to the other games where the animals would gossip about each other and insult you...

Okay, rant over. XD I just never liked this trend of villagers. Which leads into...

What villager/s is everyone hoping to get. I mostly want O'Hare back, and also Bella and Pierce.  ^.^

Bella is cute! My favourites are Kiki, Kabuki, Bud... Agnes... there's probably more but I can't think of anyone else... I like Savanna too...

My absolute favorite is Mitzi but I want a whole island of cats and horses. Perfect mix. Oh, and Tabby rules.
The Marshall fever was unreal. It still is. I think it's because he resembled an anime trope or something, but I'm still not quite sure. I agree there is more fun to be had in not just having cute villagers and I think it's sweeter when people like random villagers that you otherwise wouldn't care about.

honestly I was a little baffled by all the.... control?... this one gives you, too XD I'll admit I ADORE Marshal, I had him in my NL game and he was soooo cute. But I love the squirrels anyway. (Filburt and Sally/Hazel were my other favourites.)

IMO part of the fun is finding unexpected favourites. In my NL town, I had Simon the monkey and... a blue pig, can't think of his name off-hand. Hugh? Maybe? I wouldn't have picked them out, but I really grew to love them! Ditto Anabelle, I've had her twice. I like the cutesy villagers, but variety is nice, too. They don't all have to be pretty!!

Honestly, I feel exactly the same, I just didn't want to walk into the thread and immediately start whining XD I liked Nat! I mean, he wasn't my favourite or anything, but I liked him. (And huh, I thought Flick was a dude :o Honestly, I didn't even realize she was an NPC at first, I thought she was just a regular villager like Cherry.)
Daisy Mae's cute, but the others... it's really hard to think there's any reason to replace them other than merchandising, like you said. CJ's silly and Flick just looks out of place IMO. I like the design, but it doesn't say "Animal Crossing" to me, if that makes sense? It looks more like someone's furry character if I'm honest. (er, or should that be scalie? :p)

I DEFINITELY agree that the game's become way too "nice" and soft. I dunno how to explain it... you can't really say AC had an "edge" that it's lost, but idk how else to put it. It's definitely lost something and I can't quite put my finger on it.

I never understood people going crazy over villager swapping and stuff. I mean, sure, I'd have loved to have Kid Cat (my #1 fave) in my NL town. But I wouldn't have paid for him or anything o_O

I haven't really seen any of the new villagers, I'll have to look for those. I have noticed them focusing on certain villagers lately. Like Stitches, the bunny twins, Marshal, etc. They're in the new ads, they're in the new ChocoEgg figure set, etc. I mean, I get it, it makes sense to focus on the more memorable/unique designs and popular chars, but still! Haha I miss the GC/WW years when they'd make figures of really random villagers.

Speaking of NPCs, I hope Lyle and Digby show up in this game. And Redd! I love those guys, I'm kinda worried that they're not in any of the ads D: Especially since Lyle's not very popular... or he doesn't seem to be, anyway.. doesn't even have any merch...

(Actually, come to think of it, I'm half-surprised they haven't done anything with Lyle's daughters, while they're going around adding kids for the NPCs and stuff. I wonder if Flick's any relation to Nat... It seems safe to assume CJ and Daisy are Chip/Joan's kids.)

aaa and what about the dog cops! Where are they? I hope they're still around somehow...

Dumb question for an Animal Crossing newbie:

What if I want my town/island to remain relatively small with a relatively small population?  I just don't want it to get to the point it's like a job to play, like Farmville on Facebook got.  :p

Hmm I don't think there's much you HAVE to do? Even if you have a fair amount of animals, you aren't obligated to take care of them or talk to them or anything. They wander around anyway, so you sort of stumble across them as you play for fun.
The only things that you might feel obligated to do are to participate in the seasonal events (very rare and holidays only), watering wilted flowers (random and usually not overwhelming, dependant on how many flowers you plant), and plucking weeds. In New Leaf, you always had 2-3 weeds a day, I'm sure there will be a set number of them.

Yeah, I miss the  days when neighbours could be kinda awful to each other. I always enjoyed seeing the different villagers as well, and some of the ones I thought I'd hate I ended up falling in love with and keeping them. Except for Violet. If anyone was around for the ACNL thread here, you'll know how much I HATED her. And she would NOT leave, ugh....
That being said, Marshall! I made a ton of bells selling that guy when he came to my town.  :devious:

Anyway, I'm late to this thread. I'm really looking forward to the game, wonder if it will drag me away from my island on Dragon Quest Builders 2....

For me it was Cousteau. Got lumbered with that twerp through a random Streetpass >_< Little jerk built his house right in front of ReTail too, grrr.

I miss Mr. Resetti, I'm still miffed they made him optional in New Leaf just cause he was "too mean, too ugly, kinda scared the kids". I wonder what he'll do in the new game, I was thrilled to hear his theme play in the advert ^^

AC characters rotate in and out depending on who is programmed into the roster.  You can chase out the neighbors you don't want by being mean to them to get them to move away, and try to keep the ones you do want by being buddy buddy with them. I don't know if it will incorporate New Leaf/Pocket Camp mechanics by having you be active in construction and amenities.

I feel like Target is considered an essential store?
I called Gamestop before I left work today, about an hour or so after the announcement from the Governor about the shutdowns, and they said they are still open on Friday...I guess we'll see! I'm not particularly worried as I can get my money back afterwards anyway. I just *Stares at Fedex tracking number* I just....want my console.

Yeah, retail isn't hit yet in my state. It wouldn't make sense because they have food. But this has been extremely fast paced in my state.

Within 3 days of our first cases, and 1 day from our first community spread case we closed schools and gatherings of 100 people. 2 days later our bar and restaurant closed for dine in. So I don't trust anything anymore! But yeah, still, wouldn't make sense.

u_u; I wasn't able to hunt for a console like initially planned because I am in close contact with my dad.

If retails are still open and you can head inside I did hear that there may be a small wave of consoles on the 20th but that's sad to hear you didn't get a chance to look.  :( I was also hearing about an April shipment being a possibility from a few sources but I'm not sure how reliable that is now.
There are still consoles popping up online at random places for retail price, but very sporadically and because ACPocketNews tweets about each one they find...they go out quick.

Seeing as much trouble as I've had even getting local stores like Walmart to even have the games on the day of release to begin with (like seriously, I walk in and ask if they have them and they're like "We didn't get anything like that today" lol) I've given up on getting physical copies for the most part and bought New Horizons digitally.

New Horizons is IMO a great game to have digitally anyway, seeing as you want to keep on coming back to it.

My console came!!! I'm still going to be picking up a physical copy from Gamestop as they are remaining open.
I've heard some people have issues with their joycons connecting to the Switch (as in, physically, like they are loose in some spots) but mine don't have that issue. A bit bummed I have to rebuy Smash Bros as I guess that wasn't purchased under my account, but I do have Mario Maker 2 and Pokemon Shield on my account.
Adding my code to my siggy if anyone wanted to add me.

Apparently Gamestop is open on a technicality, like they are a necessity due to something something Communications? Or they're just ignoring advisories. Either way, they are open. There are just no Midnight releases.

Thus far, the map feels a bit small? Even for the space I get to interact with. I'll adjust to it soon enough, it's so fun and cute so far. There's a lovely callback to the Gamecube one and you get access to all the tools right away basically, a much welcome change to hoping your spawn store had what you needed!

Heads up, don't do what I did.

Make sure there's a break in the river or you can access majority of the island, as there's no break in my rivers so 2/3 of my island is inaccessible to me until I build a bridge or figure out how to pole vault across a river.

Target pulled it out of my cart when it opened and said it wasn't available so my husband had to go in to get it. Looks like it's back up now tho.

Ok now to pull weeds in a virtual island and ignore my real yard full of sticks.

If anyone has multiplayer unlocked, I need to get some iron and I've exhausted my local rocks' and am low on miles. I'm taking a bit of a break so we'll see if it replenishes, or I could just get another tour.
I love the randomly generated islands, how fun! I invited Marcia and Stitches to come to my town. I have peaches and my sisters have cherries, so I can give anyone one of those (give me until tomorrow for the cherries though, they didn't play last night like I did so they don't have multiplayer yet).
Heads up, don't do what I did.

Make sure there's a break in the river or you can access majority of the island, as there's no break in my rivers so 2/3 of my island is inaccessible to me until I build a bridge or figure out how to pole vault across a river.
No worries, pole vault is a day x thing. So long as you
Spoiler
(day 2) Give Nook 5 fish or bugs to invite Blathers. Blathers comes the next day and will give you the recipe for a pole vault!

I am now happily resetting until I get an island with cherries.  Lol!

Oranges and pears so far, hope cherries are soon!

Edit- About 5 resets and I have my cherries!  Also Fushia the deer and Poncho the bear live on "Iris Oasis".  :D

Does anyone have pears? I got one of every fruit except for those! I don't have a ton growing but I can still trade some peaches...
Also I get like this too, but I'm ok with just leaving once the trade is complete, I don't wanna pressure anyone into thinking they have to stay.
I love the mystery islands so much, they're my favorite so far.

I have 1 pear I could give you. ^^ they grow on one of my friend's island. He gave me two to plant and I only planted one. :) So I can certainly get more later.

All I am missing is an orange. My island has cherries.

My coworker has pears actually if you wanted to plant it, but you can certainly still come over and get more peaches! I should have oranges in a few days if no one else does.

I have just cherries for now.  I planted coconuts and the apples today from "Mom".  Sadly, all three random islands I visited today had the cherries and the same flowers as my main island. :/

Maybe I will have better luck with fruit tomorrow.   This was my day day two in the game.

Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Every island has it's own native fruit + coconuts, so the only way to get other fruit is to travel to another person's island.. and that mom letter.. and I think maybe sometimes it's a present in the sky? (but don't quote me on that one).

Also, you get more money for selling foreign fruit over your native fruit. :) But people are kind here, and will gladly share.

I work tonight, but am off from work tomorrow and can open my island during the evening/duration of my online class! I should have peaches regrown by then, or I'll hit a Miles island and grab some more for anyone who wants to come and get some.
I've already planted apples, and today I went to a mile island and it had apples!! Maybe you have to plant one before you can encounter more fruit via the island, or I just got lucky.

I'm so fortunate to have this game right now. Animal Crossing has been a constant in my life since way back in 2004 on the Gamecube. I could gush forever.

Haven't read the whole thread so if this has already been linked I apologize. ^^;
I had no idea what to name my island and if anyone else is having that trouble, someone made a site that generates endless names. (https://acnh-namegen.herokuapp.com/) I used it and I ended up using one of the ones I got, Poppyshire.  :lovey: Got some cute pony-ish sounding names from it too.  :enthralled:

Don't know if anyone is sharing pictures here... but I took one this morning of my villager and their house.

Ok... I  had a long reply here and somehow my phone ate it.  Ugh!

Long story shortened, I  happened to visit an island with pink and purple wildflowers.   Took several to my island, planted them.  They attract peacock butterflies!

Been catching butterflies for hours, paid off my first house,  and have enough in savings for half the amount for my second house (upgrade).

At 2,500 bells each, peacock butterflies are my cash crop! :frolic:

I don't know how long they will be around,  but I am very happy!  If visitors are able to catch them, and anyone would be interested,  I am happy to have people over for butterfly catching!
I do ask that you leave the flowers alone please.

If anyone is interested let me know.  I  will need to google how to have visitors.   I have no idea how.

Ahhhhhh!  Lol!

(Funny thing is, I actually was looking for cherries to pick when I  stumbled upon that flower isle.)

I have to weigh in getting a new console and restarting now... (and the $$ cost of that) --- but I am going to have trouble even finding a new console it appears.

Or risking losing everything a month or two down the line because my switch is acting funny. Nintendo can't tell if it would be considered console failure or not. :'(

I'm going to go ahead and risk it since there doesn't appear to be any new switches in stock. u_u; At best, at least my switch works in hand held mode.

Anyone have good turnip prices yet ? Mine are 53 today, meeeh.

What flowers does everyone have? I have lillies, hyacinths, pansies, tulips, and windflowers. I need mums and cosmos though! I don't have roses either but I never cared for roses. :P

I could give out hybrids once I have enough. I have orange and pink tulips, pink and orange hyacinths, and blue pansies. I think blue windflowers, too. I've saved the upper elevations of my island for crossbreeding.

My native flower is windflowers.  I snagged some hybrid pink and blue ones from a random island.  I need more of them to grow, but I would love to get some Lillies!

I also have tulips, hyacinths, and pansies.   One blue pansy hybrid so far.  Hoping for more hybrids, I  water them every day.

Does the passport not update with fruit you get from other islands?  My native is cherries,  but I got peaches from an island.  Also apples from "Mom".  I planted them, but my passport just shows cherries.

However, when I've held fruit on my island  -- given to me by a friend -- it registered. Or maybe when I planted those fruit. Not quite sure. Wasn't paying attention. But I have my little fruit card filled out.

My town center is a building now! I haven't gotten Able Sisters to build yet but I think I'm on the right track for it since Mable isn't appearing anymore. Next visit I'll grab her.
Again, I keep finding islands full of apples, but because one of my pals brought 10 apples and I planted all of them, maybe there is a certain amount you need in your town before coming across them? I haven't visited many mystery islands at night so I don't know if that has any bearing on coming across a tarantula island. I found a bamboo island like on the second day but didn't take anything with me.
How many pears do you need? :)
Any amount is fine! Shoutout to my coworker for BAILING ON ME.

The passport itself does not update and will always show your native fruit (likely for selling purposes), but you should have gotten Nook Miles for planting it in your town.

Ah!  Ok, so the passport always shows the native fruit, got ya!  I'll check my Nook Miles when I get home later.

Can someone walk me through how to "open the gate" so I can have visitors?  Do both people need to be online at the same time for visiting?  I know nothing about this!

If anyone wants peaches or cherries I have several.   I keep hoping to find bamboo, the DIY recipes that use it are cute!

Is it just a friend code we need to share in order to visit?  Can visitors shake trees for the fruit?  I literally know nothing about visiting another players island.

Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on March 26, 2020, 09:21:35 AM
To allow people to visit, you have to go to the airport and ask Orville to open the gates (I want visitors!). He will give you the option to either open it via local wireless connection or Wifi. For local wireless, you do not need to be friends, but you do for Wifi. You can use a Dodo Code/password in either instance to invite specific people (You can just message them this code outside of the switch).
While visiting, your visitor can shake trees, pick up objects on the ground (not furniture), visit and buy from shops, enter your house, talk to villagers, maybe they can pick flowers (not stems, just heads). In order for them to be able to use their shovel or axe, you have to make them Best Friends via the Nookphone (an app unlocks the first time you have visitors). I think you can revoke this privilege at any time.

I think I would be more okay with the event if 90% of the time I fished I didn't get eggs, and the darn balloons. There are balloons all of the time now, and sometimes more than one at once. This game had a relaxing atmosphere, but now that atmosphere has gone away. Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Tomorrow is the last day for the Cherry Blossom items, unfortunately.

It wasn't very good foresight by the developers to shove this and Bunny Day together. It frustrates me how easy it was to get all of the Bunny Day recipes in like two days of playing, but I still don't have all of the Cherry Blossom recipes. =(

Guess which of the two types of recipes are stuff I actually like? =P Of course, it's the type I don't have complete.

I had a friend with a DIY recipe for the branches make me one because they're so beautiful. I dearly hope I'll get the recipe myself before the event ends.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on April 09, 2020, 10:03:16 AM
I like the Bunny Day event and think its cute but I do wish there was some more dramatic staggering of the events, or the recipes were easier to get. I think even without the bunny day event going on though we'd still have the same amount of difficulty because the bunny day balloons don't effect the spawn of the normal balloons.
I've been having my switch on during class and checking every five minutes to see if balloons spawn. I fidget anyway so I don't mind the distraction or opportunity to use my hands. Even then, I still have just over half of the recipes (I thought there were 12? Not 14? oh boy).
Thinking of doing something similar at work, especially because I get a few hours of lull and it'll help pass the time...
I'll let you guys know if I get any other dupes, I'm not super involved in online trading yet and my IRL contacts who play aren't as on the up-and-up so I'd imagine I'll have a few to share.

Well, I managed to have a lucky day with getting the recipes and got all of the rest of the cherry blossom recipes! The branches - my most desired - were the very last. Lol.

Best of luck to the rest of you!

I finished up the recipes yesterday and did an hour's worth of playtime today for the fishing tourney. I'll have to hop back on sometime during my lunch or otherwise, I have about 50 points and redeemed them for furniture and I need 100 for the bronze trophy...
I still have the branches recipe if you still want it, Bandit!

I'll have my gates open during my class tomorrow (5:30-7) if you wanna pick it up then!
I finished up the Bunny Day event. I actually don't like the fishing tourney format just because it's a lot of grinding. I played for 2 and a half hours and I barely got all of the furniture. My friend said points might transfer from one event to the next which would be good, I had work during a good chunk of the tourney. If they had made it a bit easier to get gold, I wouldn't mind, I think it works nice on paper.

I feel like the dialogue is better in NH than NL, but it's still a lot of safe fluffy, boring niceness. It feels a lot shorter too. A conversation with Punchy will only consist of "Hi, it's me, Punchy! Another neat day in Gladebrook!" and that's it. Nothing else. A "conversation" with Lionel will be like "Spring in Gladebrook, I'm just basking in it" or something to that effect. Most of their dialogue is just about the island and how they like living on it, and it's all very short, only one box long. I miss the dialogue in WW, where villagers would gossip about each other, or they would talk about their family life. Now you talk to someone and all they say is "I'm going to make the most of today!" with nothing else. There's some funny dialogue here and there, which is some incentive to talk to them. I never talked to any of my villagers in NL. XD

Nook's Cranny carries the same things ALL the time. I want new furniture but they keep carrying the same dozen or so items that I already own. It doesn't help that like, 80% of the catalogue is missing! If you want to decorate your house like a *house* and not some weird mish-mash of gimmicky stuff, you have few options: do you want a cabin, or a Scandinavian-style house? It's soooo boring! The merging of styles is odd but understandable. I like the redesign of the "Lovely" series for the most part. It's now called the "Cute" series. I kinda miss the old design of it though, I wish it was an optional colour choice. Instead we get ugly blue and black and bright red and white...? Who wants these colours?! They seem to like that ugly #0000FF shade of blue on a lot of furniture I noticed. It doesn't look good, Nintendo.

They merged the "Classic" series and "Regal" series into the Antique series. It does look good, but I miss the Regal series as it was, and there's no option to have something similar atm. :( Regal furniture used to be all white with an accent colour like gold or blue or pink, now you just get wood. Two shades of natural wood, light and dark, along with black. Wood, wood, wood, everything is WOOD in this game! And it's all the same shade! You want fences that better match your villagers' houses?! Too bad, same shade of beige for everyone! With the lattice fences in particular, there was a piece of artwork released at some time where they were white... why can't we customize our fences?!

They merged the Alpine, Blue, and Green series, which I think is mostly for the best. Modern Wood and Kiddie is a weird merge, but it makes sense if you look how they're shaped. I wish they brought back the "fruity" colour option for the furniture though from NL, it was my favourite! Now we have that ugly "vivid" option. :(

From the top of my head we're missing the following furniture series: Striped, Polka-dot, Astro, Modern, Sloppy, Ranch, Rococo, Gorgeous, Princess, Sweets, Card, Gracie... I haven't seen much of the Imperial furniture yet but I don't think Exotic has been merged with it. If so, Exotic could be missing too. I know they'll add more furniture as time goes on but I'd like more options for my living room other than plain wood furniture that you unlock from day one.

How the colours of furniture are tied to your island is annoying too (for example, I get white/red Cute series stuff, but my friend gets blue Cute series stuff, etc), but I can appreciate the hunt/trading aspect. A little bit.

Speaking of updates, I don't know what to expect from the upcoming Earth Day update. I really, really, REALLY want bushes right now more than anything. More foliage in general, like even potted plants, but if anything, I want BUSHES. There are so many spots in my town to put bushes and there are none! Why exclude them from the game, they were already in NL?! My beaches are looking so bare when I could be having hibiscus bushes on them! Bringing back the tropical fruit would be nice too...

I like what the villagers have to say, but yeah, I feel like I see them say the same things a whole bunch, and it takes forever to get them to ask for anything. I wish they'd bring back the GCN option to ask for errands. I have no clue why they removed that feature. It baffles me.

I think I enjoy the Lazy villagers the most. They're so cute in this game!

The removal of furniture is the most disappointing thing. I appreciate the redone series. They look beautiful.... But I just don't see an excuse for this. Apparently development for New Horizons began immediately following New Leaf, meaning eight years ago!

Not only should we have all of the old series, but some of the neat stuff from Pocket Camp as well. I can't tell you how disappointed I am that so much beautiful outdoor furniture from the earlier series and PC is missing.

I'm hoping for more furniture to come out in the updates, I was thinking more in terms of what to unlock...we know Nooks Cranny has the one expansion but is that it? Can I invite Kicks and Label to stay in my town? :/
Also, I thought the Earth day update would be here by now, I didn't know it meant Earth day update.

Yeah, the game is certainly due for updates. I really hope that's all it is, that they plan to bring everything back through updates. It will feel more like we're playing The Sims than Animal Crossing, but TBH, it's that kind of thing that keeps me coming back to a game for years on end. So IF the plan is really to gradually bring back more things, then it might play out very well for me. New Leaf was a fantastic game, but I stopped playing it after a month, because I'd done everything that I could already do (aside from holidays and seasonal fish/bugs, of course).

We still know so little about that update with Earth Day. I wonder how they're going to announce the details, or if it'll just come up on us and hey, new features!

EDIT: Wow, Earth Day is only three days away.

I've been a time traveller since I played WW in 2007, and yes, there is only one Nook's Cranny upgrade.

Spoiler
However, in June (?) another spot opens up in the lower left corner of the shop where they will stock an additional item, so you get 6 items per day instead of 5. However as far as I can tell, it's only ever a surfboard or a fan. Not sure if it's different for other people or if it will ever change. Maybe it will change in July? I'm fixing to find out. Maybe it's a seasonal thing?

I want Lief to come back more than Kicks or Label, so I hope they can make room for him in the shop in a future update...

It's felt super repetitive to me, but that's because I spent a solid week catching up my new island to be at the same place.

I hate the thought of debt and now I'm at the point it will take me daaays to pay off my loans and it drives me up the wall.

I realize though, I really like playing this game more so with friends. So, playing mostly solo makes me think I won't play for long as last time. When new leaf was around this forum was more active and everyone helped me build my island with favorite characters (pretty much deer-island, lol). One member in particular built a hamster island, so I think of her when I have both Apple and Flurry.

I remember playing new leaf for quite awhile to get the little pictures of my favorite animals. I'm not sure if that happens in this game? And then I stopped the game at the point where I knew my animals would never, ever leave. So they are stuck in time. lol.

But I'm pretty much out of luck getting my favorite characters in New Horizons because I didn't really have the foresight to get all of the amiibo cards when they were cheap, and I probably will never get my faves back in my town. u_u; that makes me sad. Although at least I have Fauna...

Yes, that feature returned. You can also get posters of them to hang on your walls, but that doesn't require a friendship like the pictures do, just going to Harv's island and popping them up there will unlock them.

I believe the picture feature remains the same. Although I've only seen very few reports of it happening, it did return.

Hey ladies!

My daughter started playing this game last week.  She's a very mature 13 year old.  She is currently looking for apples, peaches, and bamboo.  She's also interested in any flowers except Mums, lol.  She has oranges and the other fruits if people need those.

I'm wondering if she can get a code or two to visit you all?  She's tried several of the mystery islands and had no luck.  And maybe we can compare turnip prices if you all are interested in that.

Also, we've never visited any other players islands so etiquette tips would be good too.  I have no idea how to find her code to give to you either?  Any help or ideas would be appreciated. =)  Thanks!

I have one of each fruit! My code is in my signature. You can get her code by tapping her profile picture on the Switch's menu screen, one of the options will get her code. You either need her code to give to us, or just to send us friend requests on her switch.
Etiquette is pretty easy: be nice, don't run over the flowers...the game disables shovels and axes by default so it's hard to destroy a town. Also, you might want to get the Switch Online app so she can type faster than the in-game keyboard can for chats.
I should have some bamboo as well, I'll have to check for shoots!

Ah cool.
As I said, last time that was my "goal" of the game -- to get the little photos of everyone I liked.

I'm happy to have her visit. :)
I have a stack of peaches I could give, some bamboo, and i have seeds for hyacinths, tulips, and windflowers.

I'm out of apples atm, but they'll grow again in a few days.

Etiquette might depend person-to-person. Usually, for me, it's don't run in the flowers. And don't cut down trees or dig flowers without permission.

The switch code is somewhere in the main switch settings. I think you can just use a dodo-code too if you aren't switch friends, from what I understand. :)

I've had one villager give me his picture, Pierce. Pierce was a starter villager, and I liked him, but we didn't have a very high friendship level. Of ALL characters, Pierce? Bianca and Punchy are my closest friends in the game right now and they haven't given me anything yet...

Spoiler
Regarding updates, the game, apparently, has some interesting stuff going on, according to a datamine.

Spoiler
Including Redd returning selling authentic and counterfeit art, a cafe with a Gyroid section, bushes, and... vegetables! I am SO excited for vegetables if we actually get them! I've been wanting them but I didn't know how realistic it would be to expect them. :)

Not yet. I'm hoping for DLC (hey, it can be a free update too!) down the road that's like Happy Home Designer, being able to redesign villagers' homes and such. A house-related DLC like that would be perfect for Digby and Lyle!

Aw thank you. My favorite, most complete part is the area in front of Residential Services. The area where most of the villagers are at is coming along, too, but I'm still figuring out how to make it perfect.

Hopefully the bushes and hedge fence will help us all!

This topic hasn't been active in a long while. How is everyone doing? I'm still having fun with the game. I have Vivian moving in soon and I'm beginning to conceptualize what I'm going to do with the area around my house.

I actually haven't been playing for the past week or so because of finals stress and such...also Neopets is consuming my free time. I'm sure I'll pick it up once Neopets bores me again.

I've been trying to breed my own blue roses. I can buy some, sure, but I wanted the challenge after not having any blue roses in ACNL.

What a pain! Even with time travelling it's so much work. I've gotten nowhere. I've spent all my time in the game for the past week just watering roses, closing, fast forwarding, only to be met with nothing the next day. Rinse and repeat. I hope I'm not burning out but it sure does feel like it. Not sure how many hours of real time I've sunk into this yet, but in-game time it's been at least three months. Ugh!

I've gotten purple windflowers thankfully, I want to try for green mums and purple pansies but I just do not have any room! My roses are taking up all of the space!

My island is full of flowers now. It's a good thing I have tons of paths down or else my town would be completely buried. Even with all the weeds growing up on certain cliffs I'm still growing new Lily of the Valleys all the time. My villagers' yards are a mess, everything is a mess... at least I'll have something to do once I get my roses. XD

Have you had anyone help you with watering your flowers? Up to 5 people gives up to a +75% chance of a hybrid. Much better then the 5% rate. :)

So that would include birthday gifts, I assume?

I have Cherry in my town and her birthday is tomorrow. I assumed that since she has one of the starter houses I'd pick out something I have from what her house is supposed to be and give that to her. But clothing would be better?

I'm not sure, furniture might be better! I assume this guide for clothing. Clothing is easier to obtain :)

I did gift Alfonso a train set, which he has in his house, and he like gave me 3,700ish bells for it. Usually I only get like 300ish and I wondered if that was a sign he really liked it. lol. o_o

Surely they have furniture they adore, too. Yeah, I'm pretty limited on the furniture front even still after playing for a month and a half. (I don't trade with people, I play and get what I get, it keeps incentive to play longer for me) Of what Cherry's regular house has, I have the shower set and mum cushion. I decided to craft a mum cushion, and that's what I'll give her tomorrow.

In other news, I finally got Hippeux to move today! (His name is supposed to be French inspired, but shouldn't it be Hippeaux or moreover Hippeau - since a name should not be plural? Geez, the developers did him dirty).

I used a method I've seen where if you get one villager with a thought bubble asking to move, you shut off the game and don't answer, don't talk to them. The thought bubble then "transfers" to another villager the next day. I swear I saw it on Bea for four days, three of those in a row, so... It can be pretty frustrating, but today it came to Hippeux, and I was singing the Hallelujah Chorus.

I have maybe enough NM for maybe twenty NMTs. Wish me luck in finding a decent Smug villager. I know the odds are against me.

Good luck with your island hopping! :)

Thanks. If it just gave me Smugs it would be pretty easy to narrow down since there are quite a few good Smugs, but it's everything. If I run into Audie, Reneigh, Cleo, Bob, etc. I'm going to cry.

The former two I would likely take, but would be lacking a Smug villager for quite some time in that case.

I wouldn't be able to take Bob, because I already have two Lazy's and I adore them both (Beau and Zucker). But how could anyone leave BOB? I just...I hope it doesn't come to that.

The chances of running into any of them are incredibly low, though.

Did you end up with anyone good? :)

Also, I have green mums to share if anyone wants them. Right now I have 4 extra--so I can give a pair, if people want them to grow... and I'll eventually have more.

(I also have purple hyacinths too, but I suppose those aren't as annoying to grow).

Did you end up with anyone good? :)

You could say I ran into some good villagers, but none of them Smugs unfortunately. In terms of fan favorites, I got Sherb on my first ticket. I got Coco, Marina, and Molly later. As for ones I personally liked, I ran into Purrl, Blanche, and Chevre. Leaving behind Purrl hurt me deep inside because she was one of my original 6 from the GCN version back in my very first town. I really like her.

On my second to last ticket I ran into Hippeux. That sly hippo was trying to sneak back into my town!

Anyway, the great news is that I had an offer to fall back on. A very nice individual on another forum offered me Colton for free, and I took him (of course, I didn't take him for free, I gave them a rare, sought out DIY recipe). Colton was probably the Smug I wanted the most, TBH, but I still wanted to see what I'd find with my NMTs first. (I was really hoping to run into Audie. She's not a Smug, but I'll take her no matter what lol)

Anyway, as for the flowers, I might like that! I don't have green mums or purple hyacinths. I like the look of the green mums as they look very "natural".

BTW, CHERRY IS CRAFTING AN IRON GARDEN BENCH.

I have been waiting forever, OMG. I have no idea how much longer, but if anyone wants to come over for it, let me know.

Something I learned recently, you need different personality types in your town! Only certain types teach certain recipes, like Cranky villagers teaching you how to make a pot, or Peppies teaching you cardboard recipes. I didn't have a Sisterly villager for two months so I was missing out on so many recipes! Deirdre finally taught me things like the apple TV, iron workbench, and the iron garden bench. :)

There's also seasonal recipes, like shell-themed things for summer and acorn-themed things for fall.

And just a thought, if you have amiibos, then that's another way to cycle through DIYs if you don't have a certain personality on your island.

I'm gonna have to do that for Smug, because I'm gonna be smug-less for a loooong time to hopefully one day spawn a certain cat. *twitch*

shoooot me. XD I've moved every building for the second time.

I'm still debating if I need to redo how my villagers houses are arranged. Does anyone have some good inspiration for that?

Right now I'm just thinking on what do with the middle part of my island. I moved my shops and museums to the FAR left, so now I have all this awkward space in the center.

I found the cutest pink-ish custom terrazzo pattern. all my paths are being converted to that.

I think the only area is done-done is my campsite. :) It has a very wilderness look it now, and it's tucked away in the corner.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Post by: Harmonie on May 21, 2020, 08:16:21 AM
Hm... Well, I think I've got a plan for my island at the very least.

The East will be where the shops and residents are at for the most part. That part of my town is already developed quite a bit.

The Center will go like this: Center-North my house, and Center-South the museum. This area is going to be quite fancy.

The West is the nature areas: Southwest will be a tropical area (where I might put Audie, if I can get her!), and the Northwest will be a mountainous, wooded area (where my campsite is).

Granted we don't get a whole bunch of new shops/buildings, this should work out pretty good. Even if we do, I'll be okay with that, because the more to do in the game the better!

Hello :) I've been playing Animal Crossing since it came out in March and am running out of things to do. I saw an idea in a YouTube video and made a lineup of hay beds . . . you get on and then roll and roll and roll. That's probably my town's main attraction right now.

In other news, I did finally remember to buy turnips this morning. Here's hoping for a good stalk market this week.

Hope we get more updates soon. I need vegetables and new furniture ASAP! Wedding season starts next week and after that, who knows what will happen. May Day and the Stamp Rally have come and gone. The May Day maze was really cool but the Stamp Rally really... wasn't. :lookround: You walk around the museum and get a prize in the end that won't look good in most people's houses...

Reneigh has been a resident for a while now. :) I like her a whole lot.

(Her nostrils seem to be a bit far down, don't they?)

Punchy, I have his amiibo, but I'm thinking about moving him out. Punchy was one of my favourite villagers back in Wild World, but he doesn't really do anything for me in this game, especially since lazy is my least favourite personality this time around. Might move him out, might not. Haven't decided. He's been with me about since the game came out. Not sure who I want to take his spot either. I want someone random, but it would have to be another lazy since I have all the other personalities. I can't think of a lot of lazies that are must-haves. I had Joey earlier and I hated him. XD

And here's my current photo wall. Pietro, Francine, and Pierce have moved out, but the rest are still living on my island. Working on getting Plucky and Pecan's photos, then moving them out. :) I do like to have a *little* variety!

Is anyone else getting a little bored with their game? I've designed my island and like how it looks, and I like lots of my villagers. I have an amiibo card coming in the mail (Deirdre) because I think I want to move her in, but the houses are all full otherwise. I finally made 5 stars and have the golden watering can, yay. My museum fossil exhibit is full, but not the rest.

I don't know what to do now  ^^; It's fun to check in in the mornings and see what's new, but as far as gameplay, I feel a little stuck. I guess I'm used to New Leaf where the animals would run up to me and demand the fish I was carrying or other random stuff. I think they're adorable in this game, too, but in a different way. I feel like characters like Gulliver and Redd visited more often, too, and there were more stores/businesses to visit (and you could visit other people's islands in the Dream Center if you needed a change of pace). Obviously there are tropical islands here, but they tend to be pretty much the same as my own island. I did find a scorpion island once, which was great.

How can I liven things up?

Yeah, it seems a lot of people are getting bored with the game. I forgot Wedding Season was even a thing that was happening because it was over so quickly and people just don't care. I haven't seen many people who like the event, most people think it's a hassle.

One of my favourite things in Animal Crossing is collecting furniture, and ACNH is really lacking. I've seen every piece of furniture the game offers within the first month of playing. I think I'm just about complete when it comes to DIY recipes. The only things I'm missing are things like wreaths and crowns (which you only get from bottles AFAIK), and seasonal stuff.

Not sure if they'll fix Redd, but I think it would be a good idea. I've heard a lot of people say they haven't seen him since the update came out. I time travel, and even then, I almost never see him! You can go literally 3+ months without seeing him once! I don't mind him showing up not as frequently as someone like CJ or Leif, but this is ridiculous, I think. And when I finally DO get the chance to see him, he always has paintings I already have! The only statue I've seen him carry are Rosetta Stone fakes. Imagine waiting patiently for him that long in real-time only to be met with something you already have! You can buy things from a friend's town, but sometimes he only carries one real art per visit. So if that's the case and your friend already bought the real one, I hope you're trying to find something to furnish your own house... :lookround:

I've still not played since late April. I'm ok with that honestly; I got my fill of the base game in the month after it came out and I've just not felt like playing it, so I'm not forcing it. Maybe by the time I feel like playing it again, the updates will have all come out and the game will feel fleshed out fully like New Leaf.

-Creatures attained from diving can be donated to the museum or given to Pascal.
-Pascal trades diving creatures for DIY recipes for the Mermaid Set.
-Gulliver is getting an update. No details given.

Another update to come in August, more info released later.

... Eh? I'm glad we're getting an update, but I hope there's a BIT more to this. I think I've finally ran out of stuff to do. I got blue roses and I lined up all six rocks of mine in a row. I don't have any more ideas for terraforming or anything. There's really no furniture left more me to get, and my debt has been paid off for months.

Diving? It's definitely... something to do. I didn't like diving in ACNL. Very slow... too slow... it was so hard to keep up with a lot of the creatures! Jellyfish were easy to avoid iirc but they were still annoying.

Don't really care fore gimmicky furniture sets like the mermaid one, but it's something to do... I guess...

I wonder what Gulliver's deal was? I don't mind doing his dig-up task every time I see him, but he has SO much dialogue! It takes longer to mash B through everything than to find all 5 parts!

Maybe we finally get the big 2.0 update in August with tons of new furniture and quality of life updates!

Now that I mention it... with sea creatures being a new collectible, that datamine from April said that manila clams were a sea creature, right? In a perfect world, they'll at least let us craft multiple baits.

Since the game has been out a while... Could anyone tell me if it's worth me buying? Should I wait? This is first AC game (excluding the Japanese-only N64 game, although I have played and enjoyed it) that I haven't rushed out to buy. The island thing didn't pull me in like I thought it would.

I saw Ragamuffin's post about the lack of furniture and I have to say... That was probably my favourite aspect of NL (my favourite AC game). I've heard that you can customize the island shape(?) but I don't think I'm all that bothered about it, I was happy just working with the randomized tiles NL gave me anyway. I also enjoyed completing villager tasks and interacting with them, but I'm under the impression there's not as much interacting.

Also, I don't have Nintendo Online - is that going to be a drawback?

It really, really depends... that sentence alone doesn't help, but...

I love gardening in this game, I love terraforming, I love placing paths, I love being able to give my villagers yards. That's the best part of the game. If you enjoy doing things like that, it might be worth it, but lower your expectations...? Because yes, there's not a lot of furniture, so if you like decorating your house, you might have a hard time.

If you like running errands and talking to villagers, you're not going to get anything worthwhile here. I've played since the game came out, and have only delievered a present to a villager ONE time. Sometimes villagers will ask to play "treasure hunt", but very infrequently, and that's only when you have a mid...ish? friendship. If you have a high friendship with someone, they will probably never ask you to do anything but buy clothes from them at high prices. You don't get to bury or dig up time capsules, you don't get to run errands, you don't get to play hide and seek. In ACNL it became a joke how villagers would ask for fruit, but at least it was something to do. Villagers never ask anything from you in this game. Maybe they'll ask for a wharf roach every two months if you're lucky. Oh, ACNL had petitions too, didn't it? Nothing like that here, either. And animals don't want to set up appointments for you to visit their house and vice versa. In fact, animals NEVER visit your house at all!

Any other Animal Crossing might be a better experience right now, especially New Leaf. I think ACNH would be better, for fans of the series at least, later down the road when there's more content.

As for NO, again, it depends. It might actually enhance your experience if you want to take it slow. With ACNH and the internet, it's too easy to collect things and earn money. You can pay off your entire loan if you invest in turnips, there's always SOMEONE online with their gates open, 500+ bells per turnip, and you can easily find them with sites like Turnip Exchange. If you liked the minigames in ACNL on Tortimer's Island, there's nothing like that in this game. If you invite friends over to your island there's absolutely nothing to do but hit each other with nets.

I feel like it may be worth waiting personally. I love collectibles a ton and they are probably my favorite aspect of the game but there's not, like, much to do. The animals don't have very fun dialogue and the friendship aspect felt sterile.

This is a really good sum-up of the game! I had forgotten all of those interactions you described from New Leaf. Although it's kind of a relief to not be waylaid by a villager when they want my fish or furniture or something, lol, I kind of miss interactions like that. And they never come over to your house, you're right! I've been trying to be great friends with several of them, like Snake, one of my first villagers, but even though I give him gifts and talk to him every day he hasn't done much except start calling me youngin'. (Admiral gave me the nickname first and I regret telling Snake he could call me that nickname, too, ha ha.) It's pretty hard to get furniture and I miss the minigames and such from the tropical island.

The game does have great parts, too; I think that it doesn't live up to New Leaf but it's a great game. It's beautiful, for one, and like Ragamuffin said it's fun to design the entire island with paths and yards and such and place pretty much any item outdoors. That's been one of the most fun parts for me. I think the island is bigger than the New Leaf village, so there's more room to plant flowers (been trying for hybrids etc. and finally got gold roses for the first time today!!). The animals are still great characters and do a lot of cute things on their own, like sing, run around, read, study flowers, etc.

If you invite friends over to your island there's absolutely nothing to do but hit each other with nets.
I can relate as my boyfriend always attacks me with his net when we play together.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the responses. I'll probably wait a while. Although it does sound like a fun game overall, I'm not too bothered about creating the island itself (still playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 after 8 months - that's where my island building focus goes) and it seems like my favourite parts of NL have been taken out or watered down.

I think I'm finally beginning to lose interest. =(

Oh well, it has been a good run.

On the Diving update: The Diving feature is implemented solidly. It's been a long time since I've played NL, but I don't remember it being quite as intuitive in that game.

On the Gulliver update: I'm really disappointed. NH is really lacking in furniture, right? Well, NH did get some new items from Gulliver, BUT so did Pocket Camp and Pocket Camp got the lion's share while we got just gimmicky items in NH. It's very frustrating. In PC they got furniture that would really spice up outdoor decorating - fountains, tables with umbrella, fencing, other neat decorations. What did NH get? The cannon, treasure chest and other gimmicky nonsense like that (plenty of outfits, though).

It's just really frustrating. Our furniture and outdoor furniture options are so limited, and now we're really getting snubbed.

Right? When they said we were getting updates to ACNH I thought it would be substantial like in Pocket Camp where they get tons and tons of items every month but really we have had the same tiny pool of items for 4 months now.

I guess... August could be the time for a 2.0 with new furniture... :pout: Watch it just be weekly fireworks shows and maybe fortune cookies, and that's it.

Ah, I've been playing this game. :P Since four days after launch. Switch FC --> 4773-7065-8508

Been playing actively every day since I began, I've finally recently gotten around to doing a major overhaul of how my island is set up. I had to move all the buildings down to/near the beach, cut down all the trees, and flatten the entire landscape. Got around to terraforming new cliffs on Sunday night, worked on some waterscaping today. All in all the mass island flattening and terraforming isn't too bad, but uprooting flowers is definitely the tedious part of it. Made me realize I really had way too many flowers. Going to have to sell a bunch of them.

ACNH is my third Animal Crossing game, prior to it I played WW and CF, which I played both like... a decade ago? I was around 12/13 or so when I played them both, I skipped NL just because this was all back when I was you know, too young for a job, being a young teenager, and everything I got was bought for me by my parents. NL's launch coincided with me still being a somewhat new pony collector so I was spending all my begging my mom to buy me things on ponies rather than video games. :P

There's a couple things Nintendo changed with the recent update that they didn't really talk about at all, which was datamined! It was found that the way the visitors work has been re-hauled, it's much better now! Prior to the update, Sahara, Kicks, and Leif were guaranteed to appear every week while the other two weekday slots would be filled by two of either Flick, CJ, Redd, Label, or Gulliver, leading to those five appearing significantly less often with weeks between them appearing. But now, there aren't any who you are going to be seeing every single week. Rather, the way it's now set up is all five slots are free for all nine (Sahara, Kicks, Leif, Flick, CJ, Redd, Label, Gulliver, and the pirate Gulliver, who is counted as a new ninth visitor despite being the same character). So you get five of the nine in one week, and then the following week, you are guaranteed to get the four you did not get the week prior, plus one duplicate from the previous week. So now you will be consistently getting them all within two week windows!

Another big change is to light meteor showers. Before, they'd generally not spawn any stars before 10 pm, rarely 9 pm. But now, they can last as long as the heavy ones do, from 7 pm to 4 am. I'm really excited about this change, given how rare full on heavy meteor showers are (I used the MeteoNook tool (https://wuffs.org/acnh/weather/) to get my weather seed and I'm not getting another heavy until October), and 10 pm is when I usually head to bed, leading me to previously missing most of my light showers entirely. But now I'll be able to get stars from them every time they happen!

Speaking of visitors and meteor showers, the way Celeste works has been changed slightly. While she's always exclusively appeared on meteor shower nights (be it light or heavy) and always could only appear once in a week, she now prioritizes heavy showers over light ones. Before if you had a light and heavy shower in the same week, she'd choose one at random. Now, in the same circumstance, she will always select the heavy one!

KK Slider will also now appear on Sundays on weeks with Bug-Offs and Fishing Tourneys, rather than Fridays like he did those weeks prior to the update, so he won't be cutting out one of your weekday visitors on those weeks anymore!

Anyway, as for things I'd like to see added in the future....

Spoiler
-my #1 want, being able to physically SEE Resetti! Resetti is the entire reason I got into Animal Crossing in the first place, so I'm very strongly biased toward him. Sure, I am calling Rescue Service every day, several times a day to hear him (besides the days I cannot because some days you get Don instead...), but I need to SEE him. Please Nintendo, let me see him....
-more furniture, please!
-crafting multiple fish baits at a time PLEASE

There's probably more I can think of but those are the major ones for me...

Also I want to share my favorite room in my house....

Popping in to say that I’ve been having more fun with the game ever since I started using the AC Fan app. (lol, sounds like a commercial) People post if they have an item for sale or an event like high turnip prices or meteor showers, and it’s just more fun to at least have an option to visit a new place and interact with new faces and get items you can’t easily get on your own.

Here's my Dream Address. My island isn't in ideal shape but I needed to upload it before September. :( On September 1st the grass and trees will slowly start to yellow and my island is so summery right now, you have to see it when it's green!

I don't have any pics to share of it but this shot of Gulliver... My island has been summery since April, I don't know what to do with it now that it's about to turn fall! There's not much for fall decor in the game at the moment, and what there is, it's difficult getting acorns and pinecones. :(

No, they're just super annoying to get! Luckily you have a couple months of autumn to collect everything... I can get one acorn for every 90 branches I pick up. If you're rich in miles you can go and go use Nook Mile Tickets to go shake other islands' trees... not that I had any luck with that either. :lookround:

I was able to get enough stuff to make the small bounty tree. Not a huge fan of balloon farming but it is neccessary...
Don't forget you can shake your trees more than once, I found myself hopping to different trees even though it's not any better of a chance than just shaking the one.

I fired up my game for the first time in forever to get into the autumn goodies. I shook every tree (aside from those trees that are surrounded by a large amount of flowers.  ) and didn't get even a single pinecone or acorn.

Sounds like Nintendo needs to fix the drop rates.

I found a few just by shaking a tree more than a few times it seem but yeah the drop rates are bad.

I'm currently trying to figure out what to do with my island, design wise... I've tried two design pages but I just don't have something to go off of to pull an idea..

Now that my town is uploaded I can go back to doing some terraforming... thinking about moving the campsite away from the beach, but I'm not sure what to put in its place yet. And there are so many "gardening" plots sitting around for my flower breeding, they're taking up a lot of space, I should find somewhere to put them so it's all in one place.

For Halloween I replaced most of my flowers with orange, purple, and black, but for Christmas I'm not sure what I'm going to do exactly since there's nothing very wintery in the game other than the holly! Right now all I can think of is red, white, and gold roses.
