'make an offer' help
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:05:44 AM »
There is an item that is being sold for $4, but it had a make an offer option.  Is it rude to make a $2 offer?

You can only but try, the seller wouldn't put best offer if they were not happy with taking offers :)

I personally think $2 is a too little.
After PayPal and eBay fees the seller wouldn't be making much.
If the item was listed for more than $4 I'd say offer them less.
However, the seller is accepting offers so the worst that could happen is they decline.

Like MA said, it would depend on what it is. Is $4 already cheap for that item? Or is it really only worth $2 and they were aiming high?

Doesn't hurt to ask.  If you really want you could always send a nice note with it like: "I know this is a lot less then what you are asking but this is where I am comfortable paying and perhaps you'll consider my offer.  If not I understand and hope your item sells quickly for you!"

Well, that's how I'd probably word it.  It sometimes helps being nice and upfront of why it's a lower offer.  That way too hopefully you don't insult them and they know you are trying to be nice about it. :)

Good luck!

It's worth a try. The seller might counter with $3. I was once offered $25 for something I listed for $80 and I was so insulted I blocked that bidder :(

LOL yeah, that would be mean for something worth that much. I'd had asked for $70 but I wouldn't push my luck. I'm better at haggling in person xD

and thanks for your advice guys, it's a CD that's a reissue and the shipping is going to be $7 so I was just 'arggghhh I want it but that shipping..' and I'm getting stingey lol!

If they don't have it set up to reject offers under X dollars, they're inviting low ball offers.

True.

Go ahead and offer it.  The worst they can say is no.  It's not like you're giving a $25 offer for something that's $100.

Wow.

Ok, I would perhaps message the seller, explaining why you are trying to make an offer.  10 cents isnt going to get anyone anywhere and they are more likely to give in if they see its legit <3

Hahaha, I was going to buy it anyway. But at first I found it hilarious but now I'm kinda worried if I order from them. And I did attach a message. Should I make a counter offer? Or just suck it up and buy it, it's cheaper than the others by 50 cents anyway orz
