China/Hong Kong country variant question
« on: July 21, 2016, 02:54:40 PM »
I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked. I was unable to find the answer by doing a "search". There are many ponies that were manufactured in China and Hong Kong. For instance I have two of the exact same wingers made in each country and there is a variation between the two. The one made in China has a slightly darker pink hair and her symbols are more of a deep purple whereas the other's symbols are lilac in color. Their wings are virtually the same. China's eyes are pink and Hong Kong's eyes are purple. So my question is, could these be considered slight variants or are there enough variations within each pony that it is just considered the norm to have variations? I don't know if I'm making myself clear... I'm not talking about an Argie vs. Greek. I'm talking about your ponies produced specifically in China or Hong Kong.  Thanks!

I think the differences between the HK / China wingers could definitely make them considered two different variants.  A lot of people are content to get just one of each winger, though.

I'd love for people to post pictures of their Hong Kong and China wingers so we can compare the differences.  :)

There are a lot of collectors that actively collect HK and China as variants for several sets. Most of the time the HK version is slightly more sought-after like HK Tux n Tails is worth a little more than China.

Very interesting!  :)

I'm with LadyMoonDancer as I'd love to see some ponies side by side to see differences. I'll try To get mine up later today.

Whiskers, thanks for sharing your pics! There are certainly differences between the two. I'm thinking I might need to collect both versions of each pony now! Lol
