I don't live in a place where I can see the stars :( There is too much light pollution.

I was up at 3am this morning and two racoons were having dinner out of the trash can by the mailboxes  I didn't think to take a photo or video. I just enjoyed watching them :)

No. Me and hubby was out one night and we looked right at the place where it was supposed to be but didn't see it. We did see Mars and Jupiter though.

On the night between Sunday and Monday, there was a chance to see the northern lights even as far as southern Finland.
I looked up at the sky for a while at eleven o'clock and saw a green calm northern light. I tried to take photos of it, but I didn't succeed.  -_-
My brother did send a photo of the beautiful northern lights (there are visible green and reddish colors) and it annoys me a bit, but I won't tell him. :pout: :P He lives next door to me, but he has a much darker yard than I do. He doesn't have a street lamp near the yard. How could I make that lamp go dark?  :pout:

I've seen some stunning pictures and video of the Northern Lights taken lately. I'm sorry yours didn't turn out.

White Ibis have been visiting the last few days :)

Also, the other night at 3am I saw two racoons getting a snack from the garbage. They were sharing everything nicely until they ran off and a much larger racoon came to the scene.

White Ibises are great looking birds. :) This bird species does not exist in Finland, but a Finnish glass artist Oiva Toikka has made glass birds. :) He made them in several different colors, but here's a link to the white one: https://www.bukowskis.com/en/lots/926489-oiva-toikka-oiva-toikka-white-ibis-for-stockmann-signed-o-toikka-nuutajarvi

Hares come every night to eat oats under the birch in the yard. :bunny: Deer still visit there during the day or evening. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

We have several kinds of ibis :) There are black ibis and scarlet, which are a brilliant pink/red color. We also have the giant ibis, I believe, but I've never seen one in person.

Tonight I could watch from the kitchen window how the hares fought under the yard birch. I had taken a lot of oats for them, so maybe they have spring battles going on... after all, March has already started. :)

The owls' spring calls have also started, but I haven't had time to go on a nocturnal owl trip to listen to them yet. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

One night, my mother, who works at night, had the opportunity to listen to the calls of a couple of tawny owls (Strix aluco) from the woods near the parking lot of the workplace.

The northern lights are now visible in the night sky. Not very strong, but a green color in the sky.. Its form seems to be now veil.

I have noticed a few signs of spring. Blackbirds sing in the morning twilight, willow cats (is this the right word/name for these beauties?) and today I saw two whooper swans in the field! :frolic:

Ponybookworm, lovely pictures! :) The daffodils are blooming and the buds of the bushes have opened!
:cold: Here in Finland we still have snow and ice. On Friday it rained and it melted the snow a little, but by Sunday the weather forecast has promised that winter will return, which means that the progress of spring will stop here for a while. It doesn't bother me, because I love winter!

Bakana, don't get too close to the mute swan because it might peck you! ;) When my brother was little, an aggressive mute swan pecked him on the arm so that it got a big bruise! :wow:

Those pics are so cute!

I love that you guys have swan (swans?). I don't think I've ever seen one outside of a zoo. I know the US does have them, around New England I think.

Yesterday when I was going to visit my mom, as we crossed the bridge in the car, there was a feeding frenzy of little silver fish jumping out of the water trying to avoid whatever was underneath them, and birds flying down and grabbing them. I've seen the same thing a few times and once when I was swimming the same type of fish passed by me and they were jumping out of the water

Snow, snow and snow! Lovely!  :cold: It snowed all day Monday and it continued until Tuesday night! At least 30cm of new snow has accumulated, so I've had a really good time working with snow!

Every day we still have deer coming to eat in the yard. On Monday evening, it was fun to watch the deer and the hare eating together.  :)

Yeah, so much fun with snow! Everyone's talking of spring and planting seeds and bare roads and people are posting pictures of spring flowers and we got a blizzard just a few days ago :pout:. There is still half a meter of snow on the grounds.

There's an eagle hanging out this morning. I can't see it but I can hear it. It's probably either on osprey or a young bald eagle.
