Pony Tail Donor Registry? UPDATE 6/24

Hey all,
I wanted to get approval from the mods and figure out some logistical issues before setting up the website. I'm happy to report that I did get approval, and I'm bouncing some ideas around regarding logistics with Hathorcat.

One of the things that I really need to figure out is how to cover costs while keeping the tails themselves free. I am either going to have to pay postage for tails when I receive or ship them, so to ensure that I have enough money to keep things going, I must charge for something. I am considering either a one-time or yearly registration fee to use the registry, with all proceeds going directly to those shipping costs.

I am also hoping to have volunteers in other countries to serve as "hubs" for tails so that shipping remains within one's own country to keep costs down. These volunteers would also receive a share of the proceeds to cover their shipping costs.

Another option is for me to offer services on the site, one thing I am considering is charging a small amount of money to replace the metal parts on tails with nylon tail washers and zip ties so they will never rust. This would be a completely optional service.

I welcome your thoughts and feedback on these ideas, and if anyone has other suggestions for covering costs please do let me know about them!

While I'm slowly getting started on shaping the website, there is quite a bit of behind the scenes work that needs to be done! If you are willing and able to contribute to this community resource, I would love to have your aid! Right now I'm specifically looking for help with the following:

- Pony hair matches! Both amongst ponies (e.g. all ponies with "Heart Throb" hair) and matches to new hair, like dollyhair.

- Indexing hair rarity into the different categories. For example, Rapunzel hair would be in the rarest category (R1) and Cotton Candy hair would be in the most common (R4)

The plan right now is to start with G1 pony hair since that generation is the most likely to need donor hair ^^ More gens will be added later.

I mentioned this idea a few days ago and it sounded like needing a pony tail for restoration or customizing is a common occurrence. I'm wondering if people would benefit from a website with listings for donor tale trade requests and available tails. Tails would be listed by color, condition and any other relevant info along with the Arena usernames of people who own the tails. The tails would probably have to be split up into 4 types "rarity" with R:1 tails only belonging to one rare pony, R:2 tails somewhat rare (belonging to under 4 ponies) or sought after (a fading pink tail that is still pink),  R:3 tails belonging to 4 or more ponies, and R:4 really common tails, like rainbow pony tails, Cotton Candy pink, etc.
I would include a disclaimer that people should review the feedback of a potential trading partner and that a listing is not an endorsement of a user's reliability or trustworthiness in trading.

I have done several trades for donor tails (and now have a lot of ponies who look so much nicer because of it!) So I do think this would be a good idea that I'd probably use in the future. I haaaate the thought of tails being thrown in the trash, especially G1! Even if they have been cut or are rusty - I'd rather have a pony with a "flawed" tail than no tail at all. =) Good thinking!

I don't know that it necessarily needs to be a website, but yes, some way to match up people with extra tails and people who need them would be great! I need a white tail myself for Sunbeam.

Yup, count me in!  I need a Seashell tail.  I have a tail here that I can't remember who it belongs to.
Got it figured, it's a Thistle Whistle tail.

I definately agree with this, I have two ponies the same color needed for their tails. :/ Its a bright yellow color Like Lofty's hair color or boysenberry pies hair.

Ohh, I need a few tails. They're probably be pretty difficult to find, though.

Or at least donor hair in the exact colour of the Arco Iris ponies.
I have the blue and yellow but there's no exact match for that red on dollyhair or anything.
