Title: Show me your "quirky" ponies!

Today I received a G4 CMM Sweetie Drops in the mail, and I was super excited because she's impossible to find in stores in the US (at least where I live)! As an added bonus, she wasn't loose and came with her little charm necklace.

But then I noticed her eye decals were a slightly misaligned--a little quirk I like to call "eye wonk". Luckily, she's in good company: the very first G4 earth pony I ever got, Cheerliee, also has a bit of a misplaced eye. Here's a picture of them next to a cheapo rainbow dash for comparison.

At first, these kinds of factory hiccups annoyed me, but I think it adds a bit of character and they've become endearing traits. :)

Do any of you have ponies with little quirks that you have a soft spot for? Chewed-off legs, chopped off hair, gel pen victims, fellow eye-wonkees, etcetera? I'd love to see them! Quirky ponies need love too!

oh my goodness  :lol: She reminds me of a picasso portrait!  I've only bought 2 blind bags, but they both were pretty standard. I can only imagine how funny it was to finally notice that misprint! thanks for sharing :)

Sad to say I don't have any interesting quirky "error" ponies. I think the closest thing I have is a G1 newborn with her symbol missing on the right side-- I don't think it was rubbed off as the rest of her looks fine, it seems to have never been there.

I do have a Lucky that looks like the unluckiest pony ever! Mohawk, beat up and chewed, age spots... I think he's absolutely precious the way that he is. :P

I kinda wish g4s had symbols on both sides...that way, you could display them from either side. It sounds like your g1 newborn was ahead of her time! ;)

Well-loved ponies are the best! It sounds like Lucky is lucky to have someone who played with him so much :) Sometimes I look at my childhood toys and wonder why I didn't take better care of them....but I guess toddler me showed my love for my plastic animals by gnawing on their feet. :P

These "eye-wonk" ponies are killing me!  :silly:

I don't have any factory-quirk ponies that I know of, but now when I get around to spa day(s), I'm definitely going to be paying extra close attention for any unique characteristics, lol!

I do have a lot of ponies who have been "extra loved" with haircuts, and a Princess Royal Blue with a bit of a chip in one ear...things like that. But that's it. I can't wait to see more examples of other people's quirky ponies, this is such a cute and fun thread idea!  :happy:

Spa day sounds like something I need to do for a lot of my ponies...I started redoing hairdos on a few, but I need to give some of them a thorough bath :P

Pinkie pie's face in your signature matches the face I made when I saw your ponies! So many cutie pies!

They've all got so much personality, and I find myself giving them all little stories! I especially love the very 80s outfits, and I could see that punky pony in a band! Thank you so much for sharing! You take great photos!

Starshine, no! :lol: I'm sorry, but I almost had lost tea from seeing that. I'm afraid the quirkiest pony I have is my g3 Desert Blossom with a bit of a messed up forelock. I have her MIB and keep the quirky one because (a) she's cute and (b) my mom found her for me. :)

Hahaha, that Starshine is actually hilarious! She reminds me of this cat I drew once whose body was a fish tank.

I've got these two, a Toola Roola with a very interesting hairdo and a Tipsy Tulip with an unremovable pen mark on her leg which I just covered up with some ribbon.
I've also got a Honeybuzz with a bit of eye wonk! Eye wonk is so funny.

Toola Roola looks like she could be in a punk band with the pony in snapdragon's post! I haven't considered covering up marks on feet with bracelets....definitely something I might do for my g1s with Mysterious Brown Spots :)

Also, I just looked up Honeybuzz because I hadn't heard of her before. WANT!

Also wondering what happened to Moonstone, she look slike she's been rolling in mud all day! And those mushroom erasers... so cute! Took me a second to realize they matched the spots on the pony's rump :P

I received Bowtie in a bait lot, and I think I purposefully bought Moonstone from someone who was looking for a home for the 'worst pony ever'. XD Moonstone is actually covered in rust, not mud! I have no clue how it spread so extensively on her, but her other side isn't as bad!

It's not pony cancer, but ink! I think someone went over and just covered her in pen or marker? There's also random little pinpricks in some of the spots! @_@;

I feel like I've told this story a hundred times, but I actually bought her from a seller for MORE than the average bait would cost - because she was "pre-prepped" for the big-winged custom ponies that were in vogue at the time. :lmao:

I'd love to see any more drawings you do too! That's a really nice idea, and I bet it's fun to draw some more unusual-looking ponies!

Also, sundance looks ready for clown school! Or maybe its just hard to put on makeup with hooves :P either way, shes very cute! Your art is adorable :)

Well I can't post pics on my phone but Ive got a few quirky ponies. A fakie baby with most of his tail cut, a Bunny Hop with her top hat and rabbit missing and some ponies with regrind, pen marks and pvc breakdown.

Haha I'm imagining the latest trend in the pony community:  accentuating and loving our baits flaws instead of customising!  Having visions of Snapdragon's Speedy getting snapped up for thousands of dollars  :lol:

I was wondering about the oddly neat holes in that Starshine!  Big wings, pre prepped... Best story ever

LOL thank you brighteyes!! It was years ago that I took that picture - it MAY have been for some kind of contest, like a 'dress your ponies up' contest? Naturally, I didn't want to risk staining a minty Speedy, so I took my baity one and slapped some face paint on her! ;) Maybe I should give her a real bit of paint around her eyes, it looks pretty cool!

LOL!! I'd be happy to let her go for thousands of dollars!! :lmao: I suspect that Starshine's wings may have been scalped for another custom, otherwise why would you hack off just the wings? :P

I have a Quackers with the name "April Showers" written on her side/belly. My dad found her at a garage sale. I can't even be bothered, because that's so adorable that her original pony mommy gave her her own name. :D

Honestly, I kind of love how she looks with the buzz cut. Because of the 'HOPE" printed on her side she could be a cancer awareness pony (I know we have one in pink but I like this RD as it too).

I admit it, I used markers AND fabric paint on my childhood G1s. Many are permanently stained with horseshoes, colored horns and wings, etc. I also gave at least one a buzz cut (poor Magic Star, she was the 'boy' in my childhood herd).

I love what you've done with your ponies! Especially Speedy. I like to dress up my flawed ponies too. They're more fun to play with when you don't have to worry about messing them up. And I think I have a buddy for your Moonstone. :P

Some of my more quirky ponies include a Tropical Breeze with a second forehead symbol on her neck and a BBE Baby Gusty who's previous owner decided she should be a twinkle-eye.

It's not carved, just stained. I have no idea with what though. But it kinda looks like a lightning bolt... "You're a wizard, Gingerbread!" :P

Sunfading works wonders, but her stains actually came back, which hasn't happened with any of my other ponies that I've sunfaded. I wish I knew what caused it.  :huh:

I haven't even tried fixing Moonstone; I think the plastic itself is corroded at this point, and she looks pretty cool as-is! And better than however half-restored I could get her.

I'll probably try a few other things for the sake of reference, but I think it's probably a lost cause.

What in the WORLD could cause stains like that?  I want to know so badly, I just can't understand how they can come back so strongly.

It kind of does!  XD  Mr. Zenna has that.  Luckily, it's not too noticeable since he has very light skin anyway.  But he has it around both eyes and on his throat.  And on his buttcrack.  Shhhhhh!  He's never seen that one, but it looks kind of like Africa!

She was covered in a thick layer of yellow paint that fortunately got scraped off easily (there are still some spots under her feet and by her hair, though) so she's nearly all evenly colored :)

To the untrained eye, it may look like Snowcatcher suffered from being bitten by a baby or dog at a previous owner's house. But I'm pretty sure those are just war wounds from her night job as a warrior princess.

Pony Bride's eyes are off.  One is actually closer to her ears than the other.  I think my Princess Royal Pink is the same way, but her eyelashes are so distracting that the eye placement isn't so noticeable.  :silly:

When I first started re-collecting ponies 3 years ago, this was one of the first G1 ponies I came across at a garage sale. Magic Hat has been given a full body of braids ! At first I wasn't so sure how I felt about them and had thought about taking them out, but I've grown to love them  :P  I think they're pretty cute, and they make her special  :inlove:

I once bought some ponies off someone selling her childhood collection.  Her ponies were amazingly pristine.  Perfect hair, perfect symbols, no marks . . . just perfect.

TROLL PONY.  As the seller explained it, Troll Pony was the enemy of the other ponies and the antagonist of all play sessions. That yellow floofy hair had been hot-glued on. Also, his owner tried to shave off his flocking.

I've often thought about selling Troll Pony to a customizer but I just can't bring myself to do it.  I think there's something really special about him being the one "unusual" pony in that perfect herd.
