the components in G1 materials that made them last as long as they have are actually the more toxic ones. BF couldn't use the same formula for the plastics, it would not have passed today's safety standards.and so... I have seen a LOT of BF ponies in poor condition NRFB, on the store shelves, with discoloration, spots, etc.
It's not advisable to sunfade scented ponies because they can get "sunburn" and turn brown.
The plastic vinyl on some of my Basic Fun ponies is already hard as a rock! And they've been in storage out of the sunlight too The only one that has maintained its scent is Starshine, and yes there is some yellowing on her but I don't notice it too much/I am not that picky of a collector with flaws in my ponies. I think that once a pony has turned another color, the only way to get that color back is repainting/customizing, unfortunately. The plasticizer/material they use in past and present G1 ponies will change with age. I'm sorry.
The Scented version specifically has a problem with yellowing. I purchased a scented Moonstone from the store when she first came out. She looked good in the box, but when I unboxed her she had a big green stain on the side that wasn’t visible! Basic fun did re-release an unscented version of the set. I haven’t heard of anyone being able to reverse the staining on basic fun scented ponies!I’ve heard people complain about staining issues with other basic fun ponies too. Over time some ponies have developed head body mismatches. Suprise can be stained from her hair, often her leg will be stained where it’s wrapped around her in the box! I don’t know if the unscented versions were released where you live, but if possible look for a cheap loose Moonstone so you can ask the seller about any stains or flaws before purchasing! Honestly the basic fun ponies don’t seem to be as good quality as original g1 so who knows how well they will hold up over time.
