Title: Dollymix are still around!
Post by: starrypawz on February 13, 2012, 10:52:04 AM
So, I'm guessing some of you know this but I was suprised.
During the course of the day I ended up at my local ASDA and whilst in there I found they had a clip strip of Dollymix and had quite a few packets still around. I didn't grab any as I didn't have any change on me but if I can find an excuse to get up there I may get some packets as I'm still after a couple of ponies.

Neat!  that's good to know.  I still sort of want to get more of them some day.

These are the G1s, right? I was just lamenting yesterday that I never got around to connecting with an overseas buyer to get some of them. I'm definitely interested!

Lol...a couple of Morrisons stores close to me had these up to about a month ago...but they all seem to have vanished by now...probably out of date!!!

My local Asda still has a few too. I found a few in my trades box about a week or so ago, didn't know if anyone still wanted them. I should get my finger out my butt and put them in the Trades section.

Are they only the G1s?

I would be interested in the Starsong G3... But i do not know if G3s are still around...

ALSO i would definitely be interested in Firefly & Blue belle...
(depending on how much they cost)

The problem with dollymix is they dont have "give away" numbers on the packet to know who is inside....they really are blind bags when you buy them!

I have a metric butt ton to get rid of in my sales, and I'm still missing Lemondrop! xD

But yes they are still about, and in my Asda it's nice to see any MLP things at all!

I spotted a big, overfilled, box in Morrisons.  I was wondering if perhaps they might be different... so I bought one and it was Lemondrop  :( So she'll be added to my sales  :) *edit, second thoughts Lemondrop is off to a new home in the morning post   so no longer available.

Strange isn't it? Sometimes they disappear for 1 - 2months and then...there they are again! I have all the ones I wanted but I still buy them sometimes because I can't resist. I keep getting blossom and lickety-split...over and over ! o_o
And NONE of 'em havehad  matching heads and bodies! Has anyone seen a blossom or lickety that matches, do they exist?

They all vanished from around here for aaaggges, but yeah I found them re-stocked in Asda the other week and bought a few to see if they were the same characters :awake:  If anyone needs a Gusty I got a spare one, or if you need any others LMK.

You will have to excuse my ignorance but I havent' been keeping up with MLP for a while.  They are making G1s somewhere?  I saw something on ebay resently that looked like tiny little G1s but I wasn't sure if they were some king of custom.  Is that what we are talking about?  If so where exactly are they available.  I'm in the US so clearly I wouldn't be able to get them but my sister is living in Prague and it would be lovely if she could find these for me.

I'm fairly sure they're only in the UK, and are found in Asda, Morrisons and Tesco forecourts. There are Transformers equivelents also.

I sold most of my extras at the Con last year - I was suprised how well they went!

For a while (don't know if it's the case any more), when I was buying them for people overseas it seemed that they were only stocking half of them (but not the same half that was originally sold)... Which was a bit of a pain. I still have a few floating around my house somewhere though so if people are after some do send me a pm and I'll have a look for you.

is there a "cheat sheet" for these? to know who you are getting?
Title: Re: Dollymix are still around!
Post by: Chrissytree on February 14, 2012, 11:43:31 AM
No, I'm afraid not.  The only way to know who you're getting is to open it up :(  You can feel the wings of the pegasus ponies through the bag and you can sometimes feel the shape of other poses.  You can also sometimes move the pony to get the symbol to show through a slightly thinner part of the purple on the bag, but that's really hard to do and you have to have the right light conditions.  They don't make it easy for us!

I heard of this, apparently they are divided into two 'waves'?
Do we know who is in each wave? It would really help!
Eg, if I bought a packet in the shop and found Snuzzle, I'd know if it would it be worth buying all the others in that 'strip' to look for Sundance, if they belonged to the same 'batch' ?

You know, it's strange around here. I hadn't seen any blind bags in months, even though I go to ASDA at least every other week. Then suddenly, they re-appeared. I suppose they found stock somewhere and are now trying to get rid of it.

They are on clipstrips scattered throughout the store. In my local Asda they were with the fizzy drinks and the loo roll. In Tescos forecourt they were next to the checkout :)

In Morrisons they tend to be with the sweeties....

I am reasonably certain you ll only find the second set in shops...you used to be able to tell which wave was which by the sell by date...there is a month of a difference - I think the first wave all seemed to have Sep 10 and the next wave was Oct 10....and yes this means they are all out of date!

Anyways, they're pretty cute, even if pretty low quality. It's nice to have a couple. :)

Would anyone be open to starting up an interest thread to buy for people? I know I'm always looking for dollymix ponies - I only have a few, and even if I end up with duplicates I'll take any I can get my hands on!
Title: Re: Dollymix are still around!

Perhaps the easiest option is to buy boxes direct from the supplier...I think Chrissytree offered to do this before...and I ll happily help this time...the problem comes down to getting specific ponies people would probably need to buy a whole box of 10...

I can buy boxes from the supplier - they are £19.99 per box of ten - I would need to check with the supplier as to which wave they have available....and also there would probably be shipping costs on to me and then on to whomever is interested...so then it can get a little expensive!

I bought a box of ten from Amazon UK before. I think maybe an interest thread would be a good idea. I don't know about anyone else who collects, but in getting hold of them all I have alot left over.

I think it also worked out cheaper to buy ten loose from Asda than it did to buy them boxed...but I understand it can just be easier to get them that way in bulk.

I mean...the looks I get at the self serve checkout when I have to get my ponies approved..xD

@MissSleepless you may be right - no doubt the supermarkets get them for crazy, significantly less than we would buy them for from the supplier - so for some supermarkets it may be cheaper indeed!

I actually just heard back from the supplier...you can buy them in boxes from them - you dont need to buy more than one box and shipping in the UK is £2.50....and best of all they accept paypal...so I guess if people are genuinely interested they can simply purchases boxes themselves! That makes things easier than having to do a bulk order! I dont know if they ship internationally but if not I ll be happy to accept parcels and send them on if people do go ahead...maybe work out cheaper that way as they could be "deboxed" before shipping over seas...they also said they cant tell you which wave you would get...so you get 10 different ponies but you wont know which ones [not helpful unfortunately!]

I would definitly be interested just for the sake of seeing old favorites again.  I really want the pegasi and the unicorns.  Do you have a link to the supplier's website?  I'd be more than happy to see if they would ship international.

Ok, so I got a reply back from the Little Factory.  They do ship international.  You must order at least one box of 10 packs and it costs roughly $14 USD if I did the conversion correctly (10.50 in pounds?)  A box of 10 cost 19.90 pounds (sorry I can't find the little symbol, please correct me if I have the currancy wrong.)  So that would be $26 no including whatever tax there is.

Which brings the total of buying one box and shipping it to the US (not including tax) would be $40.  Divided by ten that would work out to roughly $4 for a single pack.

I replied to the email and asked if there would be discounts on shipping for ordering multiple boxes.  If it saves a considerable amount of money to order in bulk, I wonder if anyone else would be interested going in together to order several boxes?
Title: Re: Dollymix are still around!
Post by: NoDivision on February 16, 2012, 11:22:26 AM
Absolutely! About $4 per pack is I think what I paid when going through a UK member last time, but if it ends up being cheaper for more boxes, I would definitely be interested in going in on an order. I want at least 1 box, maybe 2 :)

Thanks anyway ^^; oh and sorry if I jumped in on the question about the website!! I just looked it up for the first time after reading this thread (it had never occured to me to look up the company name on the packet, d'oh)

Even its a little more expensive per packet (nearly £2 a to £1.50, and the costs of mail) As the bags are random and I end up with doubles buying them here n' there in store, it really works out cheaper in the end, even for people living in the UK to get them in bulk like this (on the assumption that every packet in the box is different)
Title: Re: Dollymix are still around!
Post by: LadyGuinevere on February 16, 2012, 12:10:40 PM
I found the dates weren't a good way of telling as time went on, as both waves ended up with the same dates! I've only ever found first wave in Tesco Forecourts, but have found both in Asda and Morrisons. I prefer getting them from Morrisons, as they're easier to locate! And are still in the boxes.

Let's see if I can remember each wave.

Wave 1: Firefly, Mainsail, Minty, Blossom, Lickety Split, Heart Throb, Lemondrop, Powder, Tic Tac Toe, Glory
Wave 2: Snuzzle, Bluebelle, Princess Sparkle, Sundance, Medley, Applejack, Cotton Candy, Cherries Jubilee, Shady, Gusty

After I realised you couldnt tell packets apart and I ended up with so many doubles when trying to help people out I stopped collecting....I didnt realise LadyG that that all started to blend together by date after a while...dang, so much for that theory...

The company didnt used to be as accommodating - last time I am sure Chrissytree had to commit to a minimum order and that she had to send payment by a method other than paypal...its pretty cool that they will sell single boxes now and great they will ship international!

However, shipping international seems a little steep...I just sent 16 blind bags to the US for £3.50 because once they were unbagged and well protected in padded envelope they came in under 200gm...however I guess the £9 they are charging you will be because they ll be sending them in their bags, with sweets and in their big box which is probably about right for that! I hope you guys manage to track down what you are looking for!

PS - @Lyra - we are all here to help one another - its so cool!

Yes, hathorcat (http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php?action=profile;u=5550), thank you for the offer.  I meant to say that in the last post and just got distracted.

I guess I should have also asked about wave 1 and wave 2 info.  I guess I can send another email when I get home.  I just don't have access to my home email at work.

As far as being cheaper or not to buy them individually from ebay/another collector, well, I don't have any at the moment and this would be an easy way to get 10 at least without having to buy a few here and a few there.  Plus, it does seem that they are going for about $4-5 a piece *before* shipping.  At least the ones I've seen.

So here is the response I got to my most recent emails.

Thank you for your enquiries.

It's difficult for me to give a delivery cost quote unless I know how many
boxes I would be sending.
Once I know the number of boxes, I would be able to find out the best rate
for delivery and give the quote to you.

With regards to the contents of the packets in the boxes, all our products
are packed randomly, so a selection in a box should have a varied selection
of characters. This may result in there being more than one of the same
character in a box of ten, or all different characters. I cannot guarantee
you would collect all the characters of eg. Teeny My Little Pony if you
bought 2 boxes, just as I cannot guarantee which character would be in each
individual packet.

I hope this answers your questions!

So, I intend to buy one box for myself, mostly just for the fun of it.  If I get multiples of the ponies, well then, I'll have something to trade with.  If anyone is still interested and would like to see how much the shipping is if they were all sent together, I'll ask her for a quote.  But I will need a specific number of boxes to tell her.

I will admit that when I purchased them in batches of 10 in the past...most of the time I tended to get at least 10 different ones [with maybe just one double and one missing]...hence why we were talking about them in waves...but maybe they have changed how they go about the boxing of them now...

Hmmm I'm not sure I'd want a whole box. I really only want firefly. If anyone gets a double or doesn't want their firefly, shoot me a pm. :)

Hmm, well... I would like to order 2 boxes. So I'd be curious to know what that would do for shipping, Sunset, and then I'd have to factor in the cost to have you ship them on to me (or vice versa.) Since I don't want them unpackaged, I want the whole thing, I know shipping to me would be a bit more expensive so depending on costs it might be cheaper for me to just order alone.

Yeah, if there isn't enough people interested, it might be best for us to each order our own.  But I will wait the rest of the weekend for anyone else, then I'll ask how much the shipping is for 2-3 boxes.  It won't hurt to ask.
