I’ve always had a metal one, I don’t get how the wooden ones work! Can you change the needle?

Yes you can change it with pliers so I guess it's a bit awkward. Also the needle would have to go in slightly further each time and eventually be too short. My things arrived a while ago, I'm really pleased many thanks!
