Will permanent marker bleed through acrylic paint?

So I dug these girls out today (poor things) and I’d like to try customizing them but someone on Facebook told me that the permanent marker on the bodies would bleed through any paint I put on them.

They all got a good soak and scrub and then I used acetone to take off as much marker as possible then scrubbed them again. My plan was to airbrush them as I usually do but I wondered if anyone has experience with this happening?

Edit: I should clarify that this pic was taken before all the scrubbing and acetone!  All of the green and red marker came off and only the black is left.

Even pencil can show up through paint so I'm going to say yes.

What you could do is use a primer and let it sit for a couple months. If it doesn't bleed after that I'd think it would be safe to paint.

kaelynn:
Thanks BC!  Thats crazy that even pencil will bleed through !

I’m airbrushing several ponies today so I thought I’d just go ahead and airbrush one black and one in a lighter color and just set them off to the side for a few months just to see what happens.

I wonder if giving them a coat of MSC before the paint would prevent bleed? 🤔

BlackCurtains:
Yes, it surprised me too. I've penciled in symbols in the past and had them come through, so I don't do that anymore.

pinkkittywinks:
I would say yes too, that it may well bleed through.
