Why are real Takaras so rare anyway?  There were lots of fakies.  Usually that would indicate that the original toys they imitate were successful (i.e., common because they sold well).

Apparently the line did not do well at all because they were only made for one year. I think what happened is that My little Ponies were
also being sold/imported from hong kong and those were the hot selling items while takaras didn't really even take off.(takaras debuted in 1985 while as
we know the regular line got started in 1982) I guess its like airing a brand new show at the same time when another VERY popular show has the same time slot. Everyone is going to watch the more popular show and only a few will try and tape both.

oh I love Takaras so much!!  Thank you for posting these lovely pics I hope someone else on the Arena has some to share, I'd love to see more you are so lucky! These must have cost a LOT But I know I'd be tempted to pay a lot for them myself.... if I could find anything but fakies xD

Do you mean that the regular G1's were also being sold in Japan at the same time as the Takara's, and that they were just much more popular?  I was under the impression that the only ponies Japan had were Takara's.

Once in a while you come across a great deal. My friend was able to locate pinky for me for around $45 including shipping.
it all depends.

From what I have heard, Japan imported ponies from Hong Kong to sell in the market in Japan which is reportedly the reason the Takara line
did not catch on. ( someone please correct me if this info is not accurate)

I really don't think horses have that much popularity in Japan. I rarely see any horse stuff when I look for stuff to collect. If I had to think about something then MAYBE a unicorn/pegasus like Unico. ... but. I don't find it to be a common theme at all.

I haven't heard anything about importing... but... well, this isn't a well discussed topic. I find it silly for them to have redesigned the whole toy , and then import and sell the originals. @__@; If that's true, and they sold well, then there should be a bunch of old G1s around).

But the other thing that I have heard is about space. People who live in Japan were less likely to hold onto such things... due to living space things. So I heard that most of the stuff back then was thrown away).

wow, i have never seen the "styling" pony before with the long hair is that some sort of "hair piece" in the box on the left hand side, forgive me i can't see it very well
