Wooooooo Go Shadowfax!  I love the use of the grey lines behind him to indicate motion!

He's definitely an important character.  Several of the horses are actually quite important to the plot (Bill the pony, Snowmane, etc).  Is this the first time you're read the books?  :)

Yes, the horses are very important. They didn't get the respect they deserve in the Peter Jackson movies. (Of course, the same goes for just about all the characters. Only Aragorn got respect, and more than his share at that. The bloody New Line movies ought to have been axed after Fellowship.)

yeah it's my first time reading through.

as far as the movies go, I just remember that they are one point or view.  By reading own imaginations can make them much more amazing. ^_^

They're my favorite books of all time, I have the fancy leather-bound anniversary edition that published all 3 into one book.  And I have it on my kindle.  And an antique set.  I've probably read them 12+ times total?  I'm up to 16 times reading the Hobbit  :)

To be fair though, I adored the movies.  They left out some bits that I thought were important and chanced a few scenes in ways I didn't approve (won't say which, to avoid spoilers for Gabu), but overall they were amazing.  I'm very excited for The Hobbit, I will be at the midnight release, hopefully.

I'm not. New Line can't seem to be bothered with paying attention to the descriptions of the appearances of characters (or species in the case of the Hobbits - it is NOT that difficult to stuff a cushion up someone's chest) and weapons (Anybody with spare boards, spray paint, sequins, a coping saw, a chisel, and a glue gun could do the swords more justice than New Line's props department). Additionally, in LoTR Jackson forgot that it's supposed to be the Hobbits who are the stars, character derailed pretty much the entire Fellowship and then some, and left out some important stuff (like songs) to make room for random garbage. The promotional material for The Hobbit indicates that he has committed most of these crimes once again. The Rankin and Bass adaptations of "The Hobbit" and "The Return of The King" had the excuse of runtime and censorship constraints that came from being bumped down from theatrical to made-for-TV for what they had to change. Jackson has no such defense. My hopes are very low indeed, especially after the news that it's been split in two. I'm not even going to bother with it unless that's reversed.
