...design for the pony design contest, that is!


Well, now that the top ten have been announced and none of mine were chosen, I thought I would show off my design entries.  And I want to see any of yours if you're willing.




My first and favorite design was "Night Flower."  She's inspired by a series of paintings I do that depict glowing flowers at night.

And then I got worried that the gradients on her body and hair would be considered too difficult to reproduce and since that was part of the score, I made slightly simpler version and called her "Star Flower."

And finally, I went in a totally different direction and entered "Porcelain."  Inspired by Wedgwood china.

They're both beautiful! I can't understand why neither of yours were chosen - they look a lot prettier than some of the ones that were chosen IMO. I especially like Night Flower

Thanks!  Yeah, that's the nature of art contests which is basically what this was.  It just comes down to what kind of pony they were looking for.  It appears to me they were looking for something more based on the show characters as opposed to something based along the lines of the art/fair ponies.

I like your first entry best, though she would have been hard to reproduce.  You could always turn her into a custom!

Those are both stunning, I'd love to seem them as customs! I love Night/Star Flower's eye especially!

I agree with this, and I think that's the only reason your awesome designs weren't chosen!

Especially since they chose the zebra and the Super Fan. A lot of the designs they chose seem to fit into the FiM world rather than pony designs of the past.

Those are both lovely!  I'm dying for a new sparkly pony - Star Flower's really pretty .

I was kind of disappointed with the top ten - there's so much talent in the pony community, but it seemed like the winners were selected at random.  They were cute and all, but didn't blow me away.

Can you share a link to the top ten? I lost the link some time ago and I don't have facebook, so I probable can't view it anyways.

I chickened out on entering. I thought the rules were a little much and was afraid of messing up the entry and then not getting picked based on something stupid like my explanation or title.

I'd love to see your TAF version of Everything Nice!  You have some really cute and unique ideas.  I could really imaging Ponybot being done up like one of the Pony project ponies.

Sea Aurora or Aurora Sea - can't decide
I was thinking she would make a great shine bright with a light up horn (so I made it yellow). Even made up a little story for how she got her cutie mark

I didn't make any because I wasn't actually aware of said contest, but I would definitely have bought both Porcelain and Night Flower in a shot. They are beautiful!
