Who buys the armies?
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:46:02 AM »
I noticed the other night that someone is selling 5 G4 Pinkie Pies in an eBay BIN lot.  All of them are Playful Pony size, no special editions or accessories.  It made me curious.  Is this sort of thing common?  Which kind of collector generally ends up buying a lot like this--customizers, or army-builders?  It just seems really odd to me to sell a lot with just 5 of the exact same pony.

If I found a lot of Hoppys like this, or a lot of boy ponies I would buy them! Not a fan of pinkie, but I am sure that it would save an army collector a lot of trouble to buy in one big lot :)

I've bought duplicates of the same pony before with the intention to use for customizing.  Pinkie Pie is a pretty good choice to me for an earth pony, because I like the indentation for her eyes for most ponies -- she comes off as a little more playful than the Applejack indentation, which is much more serious.

I think I saw that BIN as well, and while the picture shows five, it's actually only an auction for one pony, according to the description!

are you referring to this?

They are the Pinkie pie from the TRU favorites and it is not a lot. She is selling them as singles. She probably bought a whole bunch of the packs set while they were on sell or with a coupon and then is selling them separately to make money.

I would say most likely customizers for a lot like that.

I second that, you can get them for cheap if buying in a lot. I see a lot of China sellers sell them in lots over time. I think they are the rest of there stock and they want it gone.

That auction in question is not a particularly good deal- $7.49 and you only get ONE pony- not the whole lot pictured.  Hope nobody forgets to read the details...

I don't when I'm actually intending to buy or bid, but from the search results list it looks like they're selling the whole army at once!

When someone is selling that many of the same pony I'd guess that that if it's cheap enough customizers would go for something like that...
I finally do have an army that I'm purposefully starting... But I'm not going crazy buying every Brightglow that I see...

I agree I guess customisers are an option or it depends on who the pony is as you may get an army collector picking them up. I know I would happily grab a lot of Megan and Sundances!!

Any one remember the seller who was flooding ebay with those mommy charms a few years ago. Towards the end he got sensible and was listing them in lots with different charms. But at the start it was a lot of 10 or 12 of the exact same mummy charm! And there was listing after listing.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
