Title: Do you enjoy carnivals?
Post by: BlackCurtains on August 26, 2022, 07:36:57 AM
When I was a kid my sister would always take me to the yearly Sears Carnival in our town. I didn't enjoy many of the rides but I did like the Scrambler,  Avalanche and Gravitron. The games were more my thing. I was (probably still am) good with them, because a lot of them rely on physics that goes against your natural instinct. I won a lot of big prizes.

The last time I was ever at a carnival I decided to go with my sister's friend on The Zipper ride, which put you in a little cage that flipped around as the arm went back and forth. Man, did I regret that :P

Maybe it's where I live now, but aside from a kiddie carnival that has a Go Kart track and the little Dragon Rollercoaster, among some other stuff, I just don't see carnivals anymore. Also, I don't know if the Sears Carnival was a nationwide thing or not? It was set-up in the Sears parking lot that was attached to the mall. I forget when it came around, probably during summer. It was a big part of my and my friends childhoods.

Do you like carnivals? What's your favorite part, rides or games?

I like all the lights and colors of a carnival.  But, I've never been on one of the rides and haven't seen one around in years.

I've been to some boardwalks, but not too many carnivals!

In the UK we have a lot of travelling fairs which come with their rides, set them up for about a week, & everybody goes to them. Then they clear up & move to the next place. We also have a few bigger parks like Codonas, Strathclyde Park, Alton Towers etc, but for most of us the way we get to experience the fair is when it comes to us, rather than us going to it.

I've enjoyed them before, but these days it's harder because I'm big, heavy, & don't have so much money to play with.

Even my favourite travelling fair was one with a bunch of £1 rides, where a £10 note guaranteed good fun until I had to go home again

Last time I tried to go to a fair I found the crowds to be overwhelming though I really did want to enjoy it.

Too many people!  Other than that, cotton candy / fairy floss is SO YUMMY I can eat my body weight ...

I hate rides, I get motion sickness.  So I carry all the bags and take photos.
