Commission request from my main customer to convert the original generation 1 mlp Speedy into a generation 3 custom in the 70's disco skater theme with afro puff hair and skates.

Pony pose is engineered with the body of a Starcatcher, and the head from a standing wysteria. I cut the original eyes of the pony out and hollowed out holes large enough for the magenta gems. Carved a hole in the forehead for a horn, which is from a generation 3 close pose Sweetie Belle. Horn is permanently fixed into the head via a thumb tack and gorilla glue. Gorilla glue expanded onto the backs of the gems as well (they ain't goin' anywhere!).

Full body repaint in a custom blend of acrylics I made. Eyes are loosely based off the original Speedy's eyes, but done in my style of texturing and layering expression. Cutie mark is hand-painted, entirely body sealed in matte artists varnish.

Mane and tail are all yarn. I'm glad I waited until this time to make this request, because just about 1 week prior to making this I took up re-rooting unravelled yarn into ponies and fluffing out the hair, which ended up being my ideal method for execution of a afro.

Outfit and skates are entirely hand-sewn, and I had to take a looooooong break after crafting them skates. x___x Lots of trial and error ensued, had remake a couple parts and methods for them more than once and had to scrap first attempts.

Starts off with white leather deer skin. I then detailed them in cream maxi piping and soft pink bias tape, then cream bias tape. Wheels are wooden dowels with eyelets fixed at both ends of the dowels. Pearl craft dots are glued inside the eyelets, nailed soft yellow bias tape over the dowels to keep the wheels on.

Shirt is suade deer skin leather. I then sewed magenta maxi piping and bias tape under the bottom of the shirt and at the bottoms of the sleeves, detailed in a cream eyelet ribbon, beige elastic, light blue wavy ribbon and a striped ribbon for the sleeves.
Collar is wide yellow bias tape.

Shorts are are more raw yellow deer skin leather, and are entirely removable via velcro so Speedy's symbol can be fully viewed. I detailed the shorts in a sheer tan ribbon, then the beige elastic then the striped ribbon. Decided some metal and retro-colored bead dangles on the belt would tie together the 70's skater feel. Dangles are wired onto the oval metal hoops, which are sewn onto the shorts.
