Hey there, welcome!

I'm a fan of Jenny Nicholson too! I love hearing her comments on the MLP franchise, along with her discussion of other toys and media. This forum also has a lot of threads about other franchises outside of MLP, so there's a lot to talk about here.  ^.^

Off Topic / Re: What are your favorite shows?
« on: January 17, 2021, 09:43:30 AM »
I still have regular TV, but by the time the year ends my family and I will probably only use streaming. It's a sign of the times, I guess. Besides, there's always something offbeat to watch on Tubi and some of the other free streaming alternatives.

Anyway, I'm a comedy fan through and through. Two of my all time favorite shows are 30 Rock, News Radio, and 3rd Rock From the Sun. I'm partial to older sitcoms, but here of late I've been mostly watching animated content. My tastes in regards to animation are a little bit more varied than my live-action viewings - I'm a huge fan of Batman: The Animated Series. But I'm currently juggling Dan Vs., the original Animaniacs, and Mr. Mayor. I highly recommend checking out the first two - I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about Mr. Mayor yet, but I've gotten a few laughs from it.

I also like some reality programming too, though admittedly I've never been able to watch Hoarders - I've always found it's subject matter too upsetting. But I agree with you BlackCurtains, sometimes shows like that are good wake-up calls in regards to potentially developing hoarding behavior. :P I'm more of a My Strange Addiction gal myself, though it's been a while since I've caught an episode.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Argue hair match?

This is for a G1 Minty, correct? A store called Dollyhair has a color called "white witch" and they claim it's a perfect match for white-maned Mintys.

Hey there, welcome! And happy (early) birthday to you as well!

Your collection sounds incredible - definitely share a few photos of it when you find the time! I think we can all relate to a moment where we feel like MLP took over our lives.

Cadance

Cadance's eyes are gorgeous here, though I'm still not a fan of the Pony Life toys. There's something about the shape of their snouts where I think they look kind of like pigs rather than horses, especially in regards to the pink ponies. Regardless, I think this is one of the nicest G4.5's out so far. Any plans for these to feature new characters, not just characters from FiM or Pony Life?

Hello and welcome ! Starcatcher is one of my favourites too. I've just got my childhood one so far (the one with blue wings) But I aim to collect all versions to create a magical Starcatcher army !

A Star Catcher army sounds incredible, definitely post images of it when it's done!

Thanks again to everyone for their warm welcomes!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Stardew Valley, do you still play?
« on: January 16, 2021, 03:56:36 PM »
I've only played it on the Switch so far, I wouldn't mind playing the original PC version for the modding. (Some of the mods are absolutely gorgeous) I haven't played co-op but it looks like a lot of fun - I recently lost my Nintendo Online membership so I don't think it will be any time soon I'll try co-op mode with my friends. </3

I went for Sam - he reminded me a lot of my favorite Harvest Moon bachelor (Rick) due to the story surrounding his family, although he's a lot more fun loving and relaxed than Rick will ever be, lol. I'm really glad I chose him, he ends up being a really sweet father.

She reminds me of Dewdrop Dazzle, albeit with more vibrant colors and no yellow highlights. She's cute, but I'd pass.

It's nice to meet you, welcome! I like Starcatcher too, although I haven't seen her in any animation specials, I just like her design. I collect G1, but I'm certainly growing my G3 collection much faster by now, because of their lower prices for better condition especially on eBay. You should share your collection sometime, so when you get more you can look back and see how far you've come! :rainbow:

I'd recommend checking out the g3 specials! They're really cute. Star Catcher is depicted as a magical, legendary pony which made me want her all the more as a kid. I'm in the same boat as well - I'd love to have more g1 ponies, but their prices have really spiked and the maintenance of them seem far more extreme compared to the g3 ponies. I've found g3 ponies pretty easy to clean as well and I find it relaxing, lol. I'll post my ponies once I get them on display neatly!

Thanks so much for the welcome!

What a sweet little gal! I love winter and holiday themed ponies so much. The Christmas tree accessory is a nice touch (but maybe awkwardly sized, it looks like a standard g2 pony would be taller than it).

Hey there, welcome! You and I have a of the same thoughts - I like FiM, but my heart will always belong to the older generations. There's a lot of conversations about the franchise outside of FiM.

Both Ponybookworm & Banditpony hit the nail right on the head.

Also,
Sometimes people can feel nostalgia for earlier times as well. For instance, just because I was born in the 80s didn't mean that I didn't experience older things. My grandparents' decor, or toys at their house didn't just disappear every decade. I played with vintage toys there.. and somehow have nostalgia for mid-century decor.

Man I feel that hard. I was a 90s kid of late 70's parents who were teens/became young adults in the 80's. I feel nostalgia for all sorts of stuff that no one my age ever seems to, lmao.
At least my boyfriend grew up very similarly & enjoys things from those eras as well, lol.

Anywhere I go all the friends I make seem to be in their 30s, lol.

I'm in the same boat as well - though I grew up in the 2000's (Born in the very late 90's). I have a older sister who grew up in the 90's and later developed an affinity for 80's movies while I was a kid, which more or less made me develop a lot of the same interests and developed nostalgia for eras I wasn't present in. Additionally, a lot of the toys (at least the ones I grew up with?) were reboots of toys from the 80's-90's. MLP, Furby, Littlest Pet Shop, Puppy Surprise... ect. I kind of feel like anyone who grew up with those iterations and still appreciate them as an adult probably have a passing knowledge of the original toys. Nostalgia is kind of the gift that keeps on giving for toy companies - it never fails to bring in a profit. It's also less risky to repop an old toy rather than create an entirely new franchise.

Speaking of which, what does everyone think is the best "new" retro toy? I really like the new Pound Puppies, though I wish their patterns were as diverse as the original 80's toys.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Bella Sara?
« on: January 14, 2021, 09:25:19 AM »
I’m legitimately super excited to see this thread. I LOVED Bella Sara as a kid, and admittedly as an adult I still love them. I have my old collection – most of it is of series two and the Magical Friends line. Every time my family and I would go to Blockbuster I’d pick up a new pack. I remember throwing away card doubles which now I wish I didn’t do that, but oh well. The art on the cards are absolutely gorgeous and have a lot of variety. Granted they’re all horses but some of the illustrations are more serious and intense illustrations than one would initially expect. I think an excellent example of this would be Firewalker, which features a horse playing in fire as birds surround him (?). It's legitimately cool art.

I also have really found memories of the online game as well, but in hindsight I feel like it could have been more? All I really remember from it is taking care of the horses and the music (which thankfully is on youtube). Toys/cards connected to online games was a huge trend back in the day – Bella Sara was successful of creating an interesting magical world themed with horses, but yet I don’t really remember if the lore of the story, if there even was one.

The Dollhouse / Re: Mattel's CAVE CLUB
« on: January 14, 2021, 09:20:11 AM »
Bashley has a great design, definitely my favorite out of the dolls. She stands out as her own unique character but she gives me Jem vibes – it’s awesome.

Someone in the thread earlier dressed these dolls up in Barbie clothes and they were kind of big, are there any other notable doll clothes they can wear? The entirety of the Cave Club line is kind of short and muscular. It doesn’t seem like the company involved or fans are interested in making new clothes for them, which leaves the dolls kind of stuck in the outfits they came packaged with. I like clothing variety. :(

Pony Corral / Re: pony Life is the G4.5 or G5?
« on: January 14, 2021, 09:15:07 AM »
I guess in my eyes the best way to describe Pony Life would be g4.5, as it’s more or less going to be the swan song of that generation. It reminds me a lot of g3.5, even with the characters progressively becoming more chibi in their last iteration of that generation.
