Baking a solid Celestia
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:07:40 AM »
Tried to do so, but started to melt after ten minutes of baking the clay.

Any tips?

I've done a few now and it is an issue with this mold. Hear is how I got around it-

Turn your ovens temp down a bit and bake her for half the time twice- pull her out and let her cool completely between the first and second baking. Also move your ovens rack down to the bottom so she's not to close to the heating element in the top. and consider making an armature out of aluminum foil to take some of the weight off her legs.

best thing I have found is to boil the pony and clay.  your pony wont melt and your clay will harden.  secure the bottom of the feet with a heavy metal item like a nut for a bolt, so she will stand and that her feet wont touch the bottom of the pot. I have never had a problem with the pony touching the pot but I am over cautious.  time will vary depending on how thick you make the clay so youll just have to play around with that.  hopes this helps :)

I hope I don't sound silly, but I've been away for a bit and don't know a ton about G4s. I would love to know why you would bake celstia with clay... are you making a mold? or adding to her? Either way, I hope your next attempt works out with the other members tips!

I just got done baking a G1 baby that I was fixing with Sculpey III.

I baked her at a low temp, under 300 for about twenty minutes. Since I was patching tiny pot holes in her body and making her a non-beddy bye eye pony, I baked her head for a little bit longer.

What clay are you using?

Her hooves have molded on shoes, and I was adding clay to smooth them out in order to make another custom, one without her fancy-pants shoes.

I was going to ask why you don't just sand them off, but then I realized you might not have a rotary tool. It could potentially work, but you don't want to breath in the platic shavings, and you'd need to go down in grit and keep the bit moving if you do so.
My creativity keeps running into a lack of time and resources.
I'm also available via twitter at @Kazzellin :)

So many projects!! What do I want to work on? :awake:

Ohh... cool. I'll have to keep an eye out for the finished-custom post!
