Tinsel Taming! How do you do it?
« on: June 20, 2012, 08:22:42 PM »
So my lovely swap partner got me a Beautiful Princess Tiffany as one of my extras <3 Her tinsel is in pretty good shape but needs some taming...and she needs a trip to the spa. So what is the best way to care for her hair? Oh and im over the moon with this girl she was a major grail of mine <3

I'll keep an eye on this as well. My two girls have decent tinsel now, but you never know.

I was asking about this a while ago, and I was told lots and lots of conditioner can help! I conditioned my Glitterbelle and left her overnight, when I washed it out it was looking loads better. However, my Blossomforth will not be tamed, so I'm hoping others will have more advice!

Wet the tinsel, place it in a damp pillow case and use a clothes iron on a flat surface over the top of the pillow case - press it dont "iron" it and dont let the pillow case or the hair in it get too warm! I know it sounds odd but honestly thats the only way I have managed to tame tinselled hair over the years.

I am sure others have their own methods though!

Watching this too. I have a Pinkie Pie that has some pretty rambunctious tinsel. LOL

Just remember there are more than 1 type of tinsel, I can see both types in this thread.
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

Thanks, hathorcat!  And thanks to you, gemini_pony, for starting this thread. :) I have a few ponies with tousled tinsel, too, (how's that for alliteration, lol!) and have been wondering if there was any hope.  I remember seeing a Pony Bride for sale on eBay a little while ago who had AMAZINGLY perfect tinsel, and I was like  :what:

I bet that iron trick was her secret. ;)

I've done that too - trial and error! DAMP hair and paper towels were what I used - fine line too between straightened and melted! Watch the heat VERY carefully!!!

Tinsel melts WAY quicker and easier than regular pony hair =/ You have to be extremely careful. But yeah, heats the only real cure unless you just want to braid it or bun it and that gets old. I my experience, as others have said, don't put heat directly on the tinsel unless its a low heat. I think the others have made good suggestions <3 Patience, warmth, and placing it between two hard flat objects (like books) too cool.

Yes as henpatch says...extreme caution with letting anything get too hot! Sometimes you are better doing it a bit at a time rather than letting the heat build up too much.

I plan on testing a tiny arean and going very slow.

That's smart.  And preferably on a pony you don't care as much about if anything should go wrong.  Good luck!
