Pony Brag Arena / Facebook Brag

These lovelies popped up on a local Facebook buy and sell so I snapped them up! All are new to me and in good condition...just need a wash and style. Thinking it was a pretty good score at only $10 Canadian (about $8.17 US)!  ID help and price checks would be appreciated!

Customs / How to Make New Hairline?
« on: August 17, 2016, 01:39:40 PM »
I have an idea for a custom if I can get my hands on the right bait, but the way I envision would entail adding a lot more hair where there are no plug holes. What's the best way to make new plug holes without damaging the plastic? I'd be using a G1 bait. Thanks!

Wanted! / WANTED! Baity Kingsley
« on: August 05, 2016, 02:21:49 AM »
I'm looking for a baity Kingsley for a custom project. The baity-er the better, but no holes/missing ears/etc. Can have marker scribbles all over or missing/cut hair. I plan to do a FBR and rehair, so as long as the body is in one piece that's all that matters. Would really prefer a super baity one as I feel really bad customizing good condition ponies.
Thanks!

Pony Brag Arena / New Ponies!

Hubby and I have been fostering a hamster that escaped from the Fort McMurray wildfires here in Alberta. She's been with us the last 2 months and she finally got to go home today! The family gave me a card before they left, and when I opened it I saw they had given me a $100 pre-paid Visa card! So of course I went pony hunting at the antique mall!

Merry Treats and Boysenberry Pie were only $3.00 each and are in great condition! Just need a wash and style. Sunspot is a double for me but I couldn't pass her up at only $4.00! Can't wait to get them cleaned up!

Pony Brag Arena / Holy Pony Mail! Freebies! Plushies! Nirvanas!
« on: June 27, 2016, 03:11:22 PM »
Wowzers, what a great day for pony mail! The 3 packages I've been waiting for all arrived today! I was worried as we have new community mailboxes and I thought they'd leave a pick up notice and I'd have to wait, but the mailman brought them straight to our house!

Excitement!!

First box was full of freebies from my friend from university. She was cleaning out her old room at her parents' and found these and contacted me to see if I wanted them. She refused to take any money, not even for shipping. Free G1s? Yes, please!

Next box was from a recent ebay win. Four new plushies for my collection!

Pony Corral / Glue stains on deflocked SS Paradise?
« on: June 26, 2016, 05:24:41 PM »
Last year I bought a manky SS Paradise that I deflocked....but her body has splotches of what I'm assuming is glue stains from the flocking glue. It's yellow and will not come out. I've tried soaking the splotches in acetone soaked cotton pads with no luck. She spent all of last summer outside sunfading with no difference. She's now been soaking in a peroxide bath for the past week that I'm hoping will help. Anyone ever encountered this with a deflock? I've deflocked about half a dozen ponies before and never seen this. It's pretty frustrating. Help?

Pony Corral / How do you organize your collection?
« on: June 16, 2016, 04:09:27 PM »
I can't for the life of me figure out the best way to organize my ponies for display.

I like the idea of doing it by pose, as I think it looks nice to have say, all the shy pose ponies grouped together.

But I also like the idea of keeping sets together - say all flutter ponies or all so softs together.

Of course then I run into the problem of wanting to keep moms and babies together. I can't have all the shy pose girls together and leave my poor Baby Applejack and Baby Bowtie orphans! Which would happen no matter how I organize them.

So right now, I really only have a few "groups" that are together - all moms and babies in one group, all so softs together, and all flutter ponies together. But what do I do when I eventually get my hands on a SS Crumpet? I have Baby Crumpet so do they go with the so softs or the moms and babies? (Baby Crumpet is currently hanging out in the Nursery since she has no mommy yet!)

How do you organize your collection?

Customs / Paint chipping on custom - what did I do wrong?
« on: May 25, 2016, 01:17:47 AM »
So we just got back from our mini road trip with my new travel buddy Scout (http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,379117.0.html).  Unfortunately, Scout didn't make it through unscathed. She's got a paint chip out on the bottom of one of her feet. Luckily it isn't visible in any pictures, but I'm worried the more I take her on travels, the more she'll chip.

I FBR'd her in several thin coats of acrylic paint. The paint was somewhat watered down - I would dip my brush in water, then in the paint, then apply. After the FBR, she was sealed with mod podge gloss. I didn't like the gloss, so I got some Testor's dullcote and applied 2 coats of that. Then when I rehaired her, she got a couple small chips around the plugs, so I touched those up, covered up her hair, and resealed her whole body with Krylon® UV-Resistant Clear Matte.  So she's had 3 different sealers and still chipped!

What did I do wrong? Should I have primed her first? I should be able to touch this chip up well enough, but I'm worried next time she'll chip in a more noticeable spot!

Customs / My Second Custom - Scout
« on: May 20, 2016, 02:03:01 AM »
My second custom is finally done!

The thread about people's ponies that go on travels with them inspired me to make this custom. Poor Baby Blossom was beyond help and made a perfect bait.

Thanks to everyone for all the help with making backpacks, using temporary tattoos, and covering a gloss finish with a matte finish. I couldn't have finished her without your help! She's painted with a mix of a pink Folk Art acrylic and a white Folk Art acrylic, whose names I can't remember, and rehaired with Dollyhair's Atomic Turquoise.

Scout will be leaving on her first road trip with hubby and I tomorrow, so I got her done just in time!

Customs / Matte topcoat over gloss?
« on: May 06, 2016, 02:47:53 AM »
This custom is going to be the death of me LOL

Ok, got my bait FBR'd, eyes repainted, and temp tattoos to stick as cutie mark. Sealed body with Mod Podge gloss. When comparing to her unsealed head, I think I'd prefer a matte sealant. Can I use a matte mod podge or testors dullcote over top of the gloss finish? Or am I stuck with the glossy finish? Or do I try to lightly sand off the gloss finish like I had to do to get the temp tattoos to stick and then finish with a matte sealant?

This is the reason I don't make customs!! I have no idea what I'm doing!

Customs / Temporary Tattoos and Customs - Help!
« on: May 04, 2016, 02:02:04 AM »
I'm attempting my second custom. I've FBR'd a baity Baby Blossom with the plan to use temporary tattoos as the symbols (because I'm not artisitic LOL) which I would seal with mod podge.

So, she's all painted and sealed. Pulled out my baity Gusty to test the tattoos to gauge how long I should apply wet pressure. 45 seconds seemed perfect. Moved on to Baby Blossom only to discover the tattoos won't stick to the mod podge!

Can I repaint a few coats over the mod podge? Or is painting over a sealer not recommended? Should I cut my losses, give her an acetone bath, and just start from scratch? Will temp tattoos even stick to paint? Or should I attempt to dye her?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! She's going to be my little travel pony and we have road trip plans in 2 weeks so I need to figure something out!
