Hasbro Announces Sustainable Packaging for My Little Pony

Said they are rolling it out over the next two years. Sounds like there are at least 2 more years in store for MLP! Yay!

2 good news then! 1- MLP toys for at least 2 more years (and I guess they won't just drop the line after putting so much effort in its packaging right?) 2- greener packages, less plastic everywhere!

The company has been named among the 2012 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute -  and if you’ve never heard of the Ethisphere Institute, you can settle for Hasbro’s inclusion in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leadership Awards program.

YES I am soooooo happy to hear that!!! One of the things most important to me is using sustainable products so buying new ponies was a huge problem for me because of all the plastic involved (it's not that I mind plastic ponies but all the packaging that's useless for anything else... ouch). Now I'm more than happy to buy my share of ponies and I can't wait to see what the new packaging will look like!

I wish there was a photo. I wonder what the new packaging will look like. I wonder if they could use that partially plant plastic that a lot of bottled water uses? And more  recycled cardboard. The plastic bubbles are totally useless once you unpack the toy but I worry that less bubble = less chance to see if quality control was asleep when your pony went through.

"Shrinking the footprint of My Little Pony packaging"...

When compared to the packaging of G1 and G2 [even though those ponies were bigger], I have always wondered about the volume of packaging on such a teeny tiny little pony in G4...so good for HB jumping on board the sustainability band wagon.

Sounds good. Then I don't have to wrestle in order to sort plastic and paper. And their current packaging isn't really flattering either.

Awesome news!  I wonder what more sustainable packaging will look like.   I will be heartily amused if it turns out to look just like G1 packaging.  (But when you think about it, G1 packaging really was efficient . . . piece of cardboard, plastic bubble just large enough to secure the pony on front.)
