Customs / Re: How to glue things to ponies?
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:00:54 AM »
For glitter I use mod podge and sprinkle it over that.

As far as gorilla glue goes, I'd be wary about using it. Some of their glues expand as they dry.

Created this from one of those large talking Cadences, a barbie body, and a bratz head. She is rehaired in Vampires Kiss from Dollyhair. Lots of blood sweat and tears went into this girl. Hope you guys enjoy looking at her as much as I do.

Customs / Re: Question about polymer clay and Apoxie
« on: June 22, 2014, 08:24:32 AM »
If you let the clay set in the fridge for a bit it will stiffen up. I had to do that since clay acts different up here in the mountains compared to where I used to live. I had to work with the clay a bit, pop it in the fridge for a while, then work with the clay again....it was a continuous cycle. lol

I'm not sure about the Apoxie Sculpt brand, but my husband used green stuff (basically a type of apoxie that the Games Workshop company sells to it's gamers) and it handled the oven just fine when I baked it at 200-215 F. It didn't seem to droop, melt, get soft or brittle, or anything.

I've never tested baking a painted pony, but I have heard that the paint can bubble up. I've always baked then painted.

After baking the plastic on the pony will be VERY soft, try not to touch it until it has cooled down or you might run the risk of the clay separating from the plastic. The plastic will bend and the clay won't.

I know that you can bake a G3 while standing in a shallow pan of water to keep the hoof magnet from popping out, so maybe the water helps the plastic keep from heating up as much?  I have no idea.  Would laying her down be an option?  Again, these are just thoughts; I have no idea if they'd work.

I would shy away from laying down. The plastic on the pony will get very soft while heating and can bend out of shape. I had a head fall down once while in the oven.

When I was making a custom not to long ago that had a lot of sculpey clay work I baked them at 200 and accidentally forgot about her. She was in there roughly 30-45 minutes and I had no problems with her. I would say just check on it every now and again and if it looks like there may be problems arising scoop her out of the oven.

Customs / Shipping, packing, and curls???
« on: June 13, 2014, 08:01:22 AM »
So, I'm getting ready to ship out a batch of customs I made. One of the ponies has curls in her hair and I don't want those to get messed up while in the mail. Does anyone know the best way to do that?

Thanks!!

Tyr
