How to clean coffee stains? :s
« on: August 29, 2013, 12:50:33 PM »
So I picked up a Baby Sleepy Pie from the thrift store today, but she had a huge brown stain - I chose to believe it was coffee :P

It also went to the first strand of her hair and when I tried to clean that, the hair just broke off which tells me that it was scorched by hot liquid (any other ideas?).

So I washed her but the big stain is still there and magic eraser didn't help.  Any ideas how to deal with this without destroying her eyes which are actually quite ok?

Well, use with caution, but denture cleaner can remove coffee stains from mugs, so.. maybe that? Also maybe remove coffee stains with baking soda.

Yes I was going to say a baking soda mix might be the best bet.. But thats assuming the stain is still on the surface of the pony and has not soaked into the plastic pores. Unfortunately if its the later sunfading may be the best bet.

Thank you both! Sunfading as absolutely not an option for me :( so I really hope the baking soda mix works its magic. and haha, denture cleaners? now there's an idea :)

Edit: I'll upload pics in a jiffy ;)

Here they are:

This is before i gave her a wash. The colour of the stain was darker IRL, not as rust coloured as it seems

Looks like rust to me, like she was up against something or something dripped on her in storage.

As I said, the colour is more dark brown than it looks on pictures. Also, the hair that was affected appeared scorched and just broke off when I tried to clean it. i sincerely doubt it was rust, but if Baking soda doesn't do the trick, i might try a rust remover of some kind.

Ugh...it looks as though the stain has soaked right into the plastic. That may be the problem now.

I feel your pain about sunfading - but its not just about heat - the sunlight can be cold - its the UV content of the light which works to fade.

I was afraid of that :( I might just have to sell her on to someone else to restore or customize. as for the sunlight, the problem is that the summer is over which means that from now ion we'll just have a few days of sunlight per day, and chances of it not being covered by clouds are pretty low :S

Maybe i can bring her to a solarium? :)
