What are your favorite obscure toy lines
« on: February 14, 2023, 06:18:32 PM »
I have a tendency to be obsessed with random toys that nobody knows or talks about I have a small collection of a Mattel toy line called amigami which were these animal toys that had punch out paper parts that could be attached to the animal to decorate and they look really good I don't have pictures of them at the moment I will post some later at one point I was looking at them online for so long I accidentally found what I believe to be an unreleased set

Does anyone else have an obsession with a weird obscure toy line like this

I had one of those amigamis! It was a teal mouse iirc. Very cute.

I love these unazukins from bandai:

They are these nodding head dolls. You press a button on the back, then ask it a question. It will answer by either nodding or shaking its head.  :satisfied:

I *think* cloudees are pretty obscure? maybe just here, but I don't see a lot of people talking about them. I adore them, but they're impossibly hard to find where I live. I have almost completed series 1 & 3, and s2 of the baby versions.

I've been sort of keeping myself from getting into new toylines. I get sooo obsessed. Looking forward to new inspiration in this thread >:)

OMG I collect Cloudees too! They were never released here in Australia though, so it's a bit difficult for me too >_<
I only have a few but would be interested if you wind up with any doubles for sale!

As for my own obscure line, I actually love documenting this sort of thing on my website, and I'm the only person to do so for some toys, like MissTiques! They were a line of small dolls that blew scented kisses made by Aussie company Moose. When I contacted them, Moose themselves wasn't aware of the second series existing...!

I've mentioned them before in a similar thread here, but I adore Pipos! I suppose it could be argued that they're less toys and more art pieces, but eh, they're still dolls, and stunning ones nonetheless. Just look at 'em!  :inlove:

Fantasy Fillies! Everyone is always talking about fashion star fillies, but I have always been more interested in the fantasy fillies. They were a wierd spinoff of grand champions I think and there weren't that many made but I loooove them. Another one is princess gwenevere and the jewel riders or starla and the jewel riders- there were some cool horses that came with that line in some of the same molds as fashion star fillies as well. Unfortunately the line didn't last long so there were several cool ones which were only ever in prototype! I had one of these horses when I was really little (I remember taking it to show and tell in preschool haha). which I think my dad got for me at a garage sale, and it took many years of internet sluthing to figure out what it was! visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The one on the left is the one I had as a kid, though I was really small so I lost it somewhere along the way. Re bought it several years ago, and just recently bought the other one! niether has their accessories, but that's ok as I never saw their accessories as a kid

my childhood one was in muuch better condition but for a few bucks on ebay I can't complain (they almost never show up). There are some fantasy fillies in the background!

Those Jewel Rider horses are beautiful! Wow!  I do remember the Jewel Rider cartoon, but forgot about the toys.

Once Upon a Zombie for sure! It took a photoshoot on MHArena to showcase these dolls, and I fell HARD for them. It really is tragic how the ball was dropped with the line, I never got an Alice or the new look Cinderella/Sleeping Beauty, the concept art for characters like Prince Charming, Evil Queen and Big Bad Wolf had me super-excited ... alas ..

I wonder where the prototype dolls for ones such as Pocahontas and Tinkerbelle went ...

I for the life of me cant find the six other castle keep gargoyles I need to finish the set. I was lucky to get one for three bucks and never saw them again. They were made by  My Best Toys in 1995 and i think possibly sold at places like wall mart and such.

The company Mega Contrux had a cool line of toys called Breakout Beasts, which are pieces of monsters floating in an egg in slime and you take them out and assemble the monster. They had a similar but less successful line aimed at girls called Crystal Creatures and I loved them. Unfortunately they seemed to have stopped making them after Series 3 but I collected every single one they made back in 2020.

The slime was the most annoying part. I know many kids love this stuff but for me as an adult collector it was a giant hassle to dig out all the parts of each creature and wash them off lol. That stuff gets everywhere.

The types of fantasy animals that came in the eggs included unicorns, deer, dragons, lions, and a kirin and a panther. Along with armor and other accessories. All the parts (accessories, horns, jewels, even legs and tails!) can be swapped around to each creature to make your own unique characters!

Ooh, I remember those! They were so cool.

I have a few Feisty Pets, which were blind bag animals that had a kind of sad expression but when you moved a level in their back they looked mad with barred teeth and angry eyebrows. They made plushies too, but I only have the blind bag figures. I have a bulldog, an orange tabby cat and a lion.

I have another obscure toyline I love: Star Fairies by galoob! It was an extremely short lived line which shows up almost never. I have the twinkling tea party set from childhood, and just recently spent a chunk of change on the rainbow twinkle playland. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I thought these were the only playsets there were, but then this showed up on tradera visitors can't see pics , please register or login
I sent a buy request but no luck  I have never seen this tree stump playset anywhere else but an old brochure for star fairies that someone is selling on ebay...
