Hair experts needed! Is this Saran?

I just bought and received a large spool of black doll hair that the seller believed to be Saran.  It's a bit shiny, feel like Saran to me (but what do I know!? lol).  I also melted it a little bit to see how it behaved and I also did a porosity test on it.  I put two samples in water.  One sample with only a little hair and another with about 5 times the other.  Both sank quickly (no floating).  It melted into little black blobs (well it is black hair).

The owner before me said she had it for 3 or 4 years and it was originally used for rehairing machines.  She thought it was saran but couldn't remember for sure.

Any saran or other hair experts around that might be able to help?  I can try to get pictures in a day or two if needed.
