Pony Corral / Re: Fixing Sweet Talking Ponies or Princess Sparkle?

FarDreamer has a great restoration site.  There's a little bit of information about Sweet Talkers and Princess Sparkle.  Scroll about halfway down the page.

Dang!  She's there already?!  Priority Mail FTW!  I figured she'd make it to you on probably Monday.  Glad she arrived safe and sound!  Enjoy!

If no one has mentioned it yet, I've seen them at TRU in Wilmington, NC.  As well the CVS in Surf City.  So I'm guessing they're probably all over NC by now!  They're $3.99 at CVS though!

When is a pony a candidate for rehairing?

When it bothers you.

Are you collecting for other people or are you doing it for yourself? If all you see when you look at one of your ponies is the haircut, then rehair, because it's not supposed to bother you.

Ponies are supposed to make us happy :) If rehairing will make YOU happier, then do it.

THIS!  If your collection is just for you, and you don't really have plans on reselling (of course that could change later, but you know what I mean), then go for it!  If it bugs you, fix it!  They're for your enjoyment, so make them look however they need to in order for you to be satisfied with them.  If there's a consequence for the rehair you're only going to meet it if you sell down the road, but if it made you happy with it as part of your own collection, then it would be worth the miniscule monetary hit that you might take on it.

There's never going to be a standard, set in stone answer as to when it's appropriate to do certain resortations.  Some people are always going to want ponies as original as possible, no matter how grody they may be.  Chances are, if you go to resell later, those people won't be interested because they probably have that pony anyway!  It's a lot easier to find a manky pony than a pristine one!  It's only the super picky collectors you'd have to worry about.  And even then, the super picky ones would probably rather have a good rehair than a blank spot in their display cabinet.  Especially if we're talking about regular release G1s.

That looks awesome!  A nice little throwback to the original G3's!

AWESOME!  Thanks so much you guys (Moondancer especially)!  I thought they both only had 2 feet stamped, but now that you're mentioning it I'm pretty sure I was wrong.  I've been organizing so many ponies lately it's hard to keep track of what I have to check on and I'm at work, so....obviously they're not with me!  I'll be moving the dark symboled gal into the MO storage bin!  Thanks again!

I definitely would NOT recommend putting Stinky Quackers with the others.  Her smell is more likely to rub off on them than the other way around.  (Man, wouldn't restoration be so much easier if that happened?!)
The easiest thing to do is stick her in a small tupperware and fill it with kitty litter.  The litter has odor obsorbers that will help get the stink away.  Some people recommend the same method but with baking soda, or just spraying with something like Febreeze.  I personally wouldn't try either of those methods, as there's always a slight chance that you could get some discoloration, especially on a white pony like Quackers.
Good luck getting the stank out!  You should post your results when you're done!

Pony Corral / G1 Lemon Drop question
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:31:20 AM »
Holy cow, I go away for a bit and suddenly there's a whole new Arena!  Good work guys!
ANYWAY!  I'm in the process of cataloging my horribly neglected collection and I have 2 Lemon Drops that i'm trying to place properly.  They both have the same standard markings on their feet but one has more grey-ish purple symbols and one has definite bright purple symbols.  It doesn't seem like a matter of fading, as the hair is the same on both.  I'm guessing one is a playset edition, but was she released as a single anywhere?  Anyone able to help me out???
