Customs / Re: Custom Pony displays?
« on: July 15, 2020, 01:56:31 PM »
I have three shelves I put up on the wall. It's not enough for all my customs. I'd really like to get a nice curio cabinet with glass doors for them.

edit: I snapped a quick pic.

This is only like 75% of my collection. As you can see, there are some ponies shoved in the back. It's not an ideal set-up!

wowzers! i know that ikea has nice curios. ive had my eyes on those metal ones with glass for like, years now...

Thanks everypony!!  :grouphug:

Whole set of mountain boys for sure! With that power I could trade one for a punzie, if I ever wanted her.  :devious:
150$ for all 6 sounds like a steal.

Customs / Custom Pony displays?
« on: July 13, 2020, 01:11:40 AM »
Hi gang! I've been finishing up quite a few customs here recently, and I'm sort of at a loss for where to display them. I don't really feel like putting them with the other non-custom ponies, since I worked so hard I want them to shine.. but I also have limited display realestate. How do you guys display your custom ponys? I'd love to see pics!

has anyone thought to measure their ponies?  :enthralled:
my party time ( i dont have lofty or anybody in her pose)  is 2 inches from outside edge of hoof->outside edge of hoof. I measured chief too, and he's about 2 1/4 inch from hoof to hoof. their hips are barely a smidge wider than their fronts.

She's gorgeous! The curly hair really makes her :)

yes i think so too! it was sort of a pain in the butt to order/pay for/root but i think totally worth it.

She came out so gorgeous!<3 And you managed to teach me about a new animal, I thought she was an okapi at first tbh.

Okapi would be a good custom to make too! I really like them as well  :P

display side! her neck peg had some issues, i was putting it in to test the fit and when i pulled it back out the gasket lip thing just ripped right off. oops! so I glued her head permenantly, but there's a bit of a seam showing..i almost went over it with apoxy but i didn't wanna repaint that much....

closeup on her beads. it was hard to find ones that were exactly what i wanted (obviously)...the black one is a tad big for what i imagined, but i think the pattern really fits. the little green and orange ones were a big pain in the tuckus to get on the hairs.

view from the back! i would have liked to have more beads in her hair but it was such a pain that i sort of gave up on that. overall im pretty happy with her...!  :frolic:

Pony Corral / Re: Moving with a collection?

I used cardboard bankers boxes.  I put each pony in an individual plastic sandwich baggie (the ziplock kind) and tossed them in.  The only exceptions being unusually fragile ponies, like Summer Wings with wings.  The baggies will prevent their hair from getting tangled.

Ponies are very durable so don't worry too much. :)

i second the individual baggies :+) I personally don't like to keep them in there for too long, last to pack first to unpack that sort of thing. though its really unlikely, if the ponies do get water damage or any moisture gets in the bags they can grow mold. But I wouldn't worry too much about that, unless the place you're moving is rainy or in danger of getting boxes wet. If that is a concern for you, using plastic totes over cardboard boxes may be the way to go. for wingers/flutters/etc i wrapped each wing in paper towels carefully, then put the whole pony in a baggie.

What an awesome find!! I have yet to brave any thrift stores.... hoping my pony luck is as good as yours!

I think steamer is disappointing. And I think I dislike Fireball the most, if those boys count too. They just had so much opportunity to go with something other than pink!
