[EDIT]: does anybody have a video of the making-of of FiM?? would be very interested! :)
old topic title + description:
does anybody know how FiM is animated?
i personally work with adobe after effects at the university for doing 2D animation.
does anybody know how the ponies in FiM are animated (with which software)? or is it 3D animation with a 2D texture (i personally dont think so but a fellow student mentioned it)?!
i'm thinking about writing my master thesis about 2d animated cartoons in the 3d hype age :)

It is Flash animation, although I had a hard time recognizing between 2D traditional. But it is Flash :)
-
omg flash? thats scary :D i wish i could see a making of. :)
-
Yeah, me too. You can hardly tell, so I am quite curious :D
-
That sound like a great topic for your thesis!

Do you have the source for that?
A lot of studios use toonboom, aftereffects, and flash. I really doubt the whole thing is done in flash.
-
I think I read it somewhere, but of course, I doubt it was all done in Flash as well - nothing is done in only one program. But I still believe mainly is done on Flash.
-
Yep, I would assume something Flash-based. :)
-
Flash I would assume? I'm sure they use other things to help along- along with some traditional animation to help it along. :D

I also read somewhere that they use primarily flash for animating FiM.

You can actually kind of animate "traditionally" in Flash (only digitally). I'm not sure how handy it is though.
I actually wonder if they still animate parts on paper or perhaps on a cintiq. Either way, you can do most, if not all in Flash. Though yeah, for some parts they might use other software (like the effects and sound).
-
Yeah, it's done in Flash. Before it actually aired I was bracing myself for something awful because, urgh, FLASH.
I don't know if it's solely animated in Flash, though.

i changed the topic title, maybe somebody has a video that shows us how its done :)

There's this, which isn't much but it's a start:
