Mixing Nylon and MonoFiber hair, results!!
« on: December 03, 2012, 05:22:54 PM »
I tried to do a search on this, but didn't get any viable results. Has anyone attmepted to mix Nylon a Monofiber hair? I'd like to put a stripe of nylon in a base color monofiber. But also interested in if anyone has blended these two?

Thanks <3<3<3

They both can be boil permed and such, so I would imagine it would work ok ;) Let me know how it turns out! :)

I guess the only hesitation I have is the monofiber is a smaller hair shaft so it would drape more than the nylon, I'll just give it a whirl!!

Letcha know what happens :D

yes, please let us know! They feel so different, but I don't know what some hot water would do.

So I gave it a try, the nylon did what I would expect, monofiber not so much. It really didn't curl much at all. It was a little wavy, but you could tell a big difference in the monofiber vs. the nylon.

I used the boil perm method and left it to dry completely before taking it out of the curlers.

I wouldn't recommend mixing these two, they have too different of a feel and curl differently. Definitely say use them separate though!!! The monofiber may take a little more to curl, but it's worth it!

So would you say Monofiber is kind of close to the feel of saran and kind of how it acts? I'm going to order some soon but I suppose I could find out when I get it XD

Monofiber is not really close to the feel of anything XD I still haven't managed to find the time to try styling mine yet.

Monofiber is unlike anything else, it is so soft and silky and light. You just have to keep running your hands through it XD
Thanks for sharing all of this info :)

I haven't had a chance to rehair with the monofiber. Thanks for this info though, I was wondering about that myself.  ^.^

it is sooo fun to play with, that's for sure. I'm thinking it will probably be well suited to larger ponies as it should "drape" nicer on a larger scale - I tested it on a McD pony, so yeah.

Thanks for the update! I recently used my flat iron on the hair and it made it slightly wavy (after putting in braids), but haven't tried a boil perm as of yet. Please post updates of your tests, I'd love to hear how they turn out (pictures welcome too!). :)

Hm, well, I'm not sure if I do mine differently than you BarbedDragon, but I just posted the results of the boil perm that I did earlier today on some monofiber http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,317008.0.html it took the curls perfectly.

I boil curled monofiber hair on a G4 custom my sister made me - I wrapped the hair around her feet, secured with fabric, (tail was in a perm curler) and dipped her legs into boiling water that had just been taken off the heat and held her there for a couple minutes. The curls came out perfect:

I also braided monofiber on a different pony and boiled it and it set nice to give her wavy hair - though I dipped it back in the boiling water after taking everything out to soften the waves. It seems to really stay where you boiled it! (I can't show pics of that pony cuz she's for a swap ;) )
