You might remember me talking about a custom pony contest going on at another site. Well, the winners were announced (after an agonizing 4 day wait that had me feeling SO impatient and nervous). And I can say with pride that I won! :frolic:

The theme for the contest was simply "animals" so I made a Chimera.

There are three G3s under there, I swear :lol: The lion is a head, the dragon and goat are heads with two legs on the same side. They were put together with Apoxie Sculpt (which will shrink if baked in the oven enough times...) but all the sculpting was done with Super Sculpey. The hair is Tibetan lamb wool. It took me a good two months or so to make. Probably the longest I've spent on a custom. If you can even call it that, it's more a mixed media sculpture.

The classic Chimera is of Greek origin and consists of the body and head of a lion with a goat head and a snake for a tail. Some modern versions add the dragon and wings. I decided to do one dragon and one feathered wing. Unfortunately, the feathered wing broke due to the Apoxie holding it in place shrinking and chipping off. I couldn't repair it since the head was already on and sculpted over. So the wing is loose and sits lower than what I had intended. I can try to fix it with glue now that the contest is over.

If I could do it over again, there are many changes I'd make, but I'm happy with it as is. And of course over the moon happy that I won :D

It turned out absolutely spectacular! And congrats on the well-deserved win! :cheer:
Using wool for the lion's mane was a great idea. The goat's head must be my favourite, though - goats are such fun creatures and yours has such a sassy expression :lol:

Holy cow, that is outstanding!!  I was NOT at all surprised when I saw the news that you won!!  Congrats again!

I’d love to see some WIP pics…I can’t even imagine the work that went into that!   :worshippy:

WOW!  :dropjaw: It turned out incredibly gorgeous! You chose a great and really challenging creature to make, but you have great skills to make it happen! I would probably have already given up at the point when the ponies are "mutilated", because I would have cut my own fingers!  :snicker:
