how do I re root a plushie?
« on: September 06, 2014, 09:44:49 AM »
I am making a plush mlp ( because I can :)) and I have only one question. I have a pattern for the body but I don't know how to give it a mane and tail. I would like it to be made from the same stuff as normal manes but I need advice as to securing it to the plushie.

ANy ideas please?

For the mane I think you need to make a weft first.
You could see if these two tutorials are of any use to you:

When your sewing the neck put your weft in between. Use two or three if you feel one is not enoug.
With the tail I guess the basic tail knot would work and sewing it like the mane. You can't have them too thick as it might breack your sewing machines needle or the whole machine. I haven't done this by myself but I have a blushie with nylon mane that seems to be done that way.

The second link style might still work. Just secure the hair with glue if the weft keeps on falling apart. Also you could glue the weft on the fabric and then sew it close. Make small titches for best result.

the other thing is that the pattern I am using has a head gusset. It's not a problem as I see it as a challenge and I will be going to build a bear soon and I will have a  look at their mlps to see how they do it.

Looking at pony plushies that are already made will be a great help :) you can see how they are structured properly.

I'm not much of a plush player, so I am afraid I'm not much help.  But here's a :bump: for you, so some of our more plushie-inclined members can help you out.  :silly:
