Either separately or together. Loose.
Thanks!

They were never released in the UK. I think they may have had a release in some European countries, but they were mainstream release for the US and I believe Canada for the 1988 line. This is another example of insane collectors bumping up the prices, but although they've always been a bit sought after, it's only recently they've gone nuts like this. I bought a lot of five or six mip pony items a few years back and one of those items was this set of twins but the auction didn't go particularly high - it worked out at about $20 per set - so the insanity is recent. If buying, I'd wait for sanity to resume. If selling, now's the time to do it...

wow they really have gone up, hathorcat pc at around $45 for the complete set including accessories 4 years ago which i thought was very low at the time. they look to have doubled now going by sold and completed items on ebay.

Wow I remember when they were like $40-45 together....that was just like three years ago.

Yep. To me that sounds more reasonable with accessories included for most of the twinsets, but I have actually seen just the ponies sell for over $100. I think I was looking for them because a friend mentioned an interest in them, and I was frankly horrified by the hike. I don't know when it happened, but someone obviously paid over the odds. There was also a MIB set for $500ish a while back as well. I have seen NT sets sell for that when insanity prevails (there was a seller who had multiple sets of twins MIB on sale a few years back and a couple of sets went for that because of people trying to get them) but in the common scheme of things, $500 for a twinset MIB is crazy.
Does anyone actually know what specifically sparked this price hike? Was there a bidding war like over the seasparkle baby sea ponies a while back or is this just one of those weird phenomena because everyone wants these twins at once..??

Egads! part of that is the holidays, for sure, but they have always been the pricey set!
-
They're definitely worth more than $45 with accessories these days.
I think their price is so high not because of rarity but because they have a particularly interesting color scheme and great names (compared to Speckles and Bunkie--what the heck??--or even worse Sticky and Sniffles). They also have a pretty interesting symbol.
In addition all the 2nd set Newborn Twins are hard to find compared to the first set.

Although the first set ones are rarer mib and sell for more. Though thinking about it that also kind of makes sense...
