I started out with G1 back in the 80's so there was no other generation. The only weird experience was seeing the Remco fakie knock off ponies start showing up in stores for the first time.

I think one of the differences in G1 compared to the toy line now is Hasbro from the beginning seemed to look at the G1 toy line as a 'collectable'. Some folks not familiar with MLP marketing back in the 80's probably don't know this but Basic Fun and hasbro didn't start calling the first 6 MLP collector ponies in the last 10/20 years. They were calling them collector ponies as early as 1986. I've got a letter I received back in the 80's from the mail order programing documenting Hasbro already calling those ponies 'collector ponies'

Even way back then they were looking at MLP toy line as something more than just toys a 3 year old kid was going to tear up and loose interest in once they grew out of it. They must have seen by the interest and even looked at how 'kids' and adults treated the ponies back then. I remember when I bought my first 2 ponies (Moondancer and Firefly) my cousin had also purchased a pony and both of us (Me around 11/12 I think and my cousin around 8/9 - we both wanted to collect ALL the ponies). Hasbro probably could tell by the mail order program that the reaction to MLP back then was that people were actually buying them to put on a shelf and admire.

I think as a creator of toys IF you're looking at your toy line as something more valuable than toys then I feel like you'd put more effort and attention to detail into it; instead of now it feels like the G5 and even going by to the G4, it was just get something out quick and as cheaply as possible.

I also wish they'd have waited a couple years and then revamped the whole MLP line to something completely different. While it's so close to G4 I think that G5 sort of suffers when I think it could have been way different if they'd given it not only a cooling off period, but been given more time to develop the idea away from G4.

The only collector guilt I have is realizing I should have bought more ponies back in the 80's.

I love Apothecary Diaries show and manga. I love Jinshi and MaoMao!!


Also I've recently gotten into Sugar Apple Fairy Tale; at first I thought it was gonna be meh...but I found myself liking it enough that I bought the light novel vol 4 so I could continue reading the story.

I know that on the netfix series (Toys that made us - I think that's the name) episode about ponies, I think I remember it said the first year of actual MLP they said in the show $80 million PLUS in sales. Most ponies back then in the USA were like $2.99-$3.99...I'd say that's a lot of ponies.

Edit addition: I just rewatched the netflix toys that made us episode and one of the creators said they were doing $100+ million in sales for most of the 80's. And they were actually at one point struggling to keep up with demand and coming up with new ideas, etc. Not sure if that's the reason it sort of abruptly ended, but it may have factored into why they stopped sorta suddenly.

My addiction is bad, but I did manage to get the costume ball Fairy, I want the cat/werewolf whatever she is...cause honestly at this point I can't keep up with the names. I also want to get the vampirish one as well but didn't see either of them. I did see the girl with the spiderweb dress at the same walmart I purchased the 'Fairy', however though I did like her, she looks very similar to one of the slumber party dolls. I'm sorta more interested if they're really different from the other dolls.

I managed to buy a few at yard sales/flea markets as well. So I have a few that need fixing up. Right now, most of mine are still in box, not necessarily because I want them to be but because I just don't have time right now to open them. Though, like for example the fairy, the box is so nice for display in how it's made I'm a bit hesitant to remove her. I almost feel like I can keep her in box and potentially later I'll find one out of box for a much cheaper price, even though it might be played with or even in a lot of other dolls. So I do think some of them I may keep in box, especially some of the special editions that the box plays into the whole design.

I actually like the holiday doll, but haven't seen her in person, but I really like the white on white design sooo, I will probably get her. I think maybe what they could have done to make her more interesting was to make the dress an actually rainbow fabric of some kind, but I kinda see what they were going for with the design.

I really like the fact that they are willing to try different things with rainbow high, and the idea of a fashion doll coming with extra fashion came from bratz but at least this company get's the idea of a 'fashion doll'.

Like the grayscale design dolls (shadow high). I mean, who would have thought a gray doll would be interesting...
